Well, I'll be building the thing myself, so I honestly can't say. I'm in the research stage at the moment. I'm asking around for all the best and necessary parts, as I want to be as up to date with this machine as possible. At the same time I also need to figure out specifically just how the fuck to build a computer @_@;
Thankfully I have friends who know more about this stuff than I do, and thankfully have a father and brothers who are good at such things. The bad thing is that these people can never seem to give me answers right away, so I have a sneaking suspicion I'm going to end up doing everything myself <_<;
I suspect I don't have enough saved up for everything at the moment, but by the end of August I should have a fair bit of coin. I still want to buy parts in the meantime, but I have questions that need answering first.
Put Engy's run into your head for a second. I do not mean for this to be in anyway offensive, Engy, but it's not entirely out the window to say that one could almost match your run nearly every step of the way in an SS with enough practice.
A 45 minute SS run would be an empty promise to me. However, throw into that time some new tricks and dock some time, because I'm obviously not going to be able to match Engy's time in an SS, and I would say sub 50 is perfectly within reason.
I remember Engy saying achieving sub 50 in an SS would be an incredible show of skill, and I intend to achieve that time. I really could care less if a single soul didn't think I could do it, that won't stop me from actually doing it.
No, I'm sorry, if you tried an SS run with the same route I took in my 45 minute run, you would not get it done in 45 minutes. I doubt you could finish it at all. It might look easy and plausible when you're watching it, but there are plenty of places where if things don't go just the right way, you die or at best lose a good bit of time. If you'll notice Spider-Waffle's SS run differs a lot in the tricks he uses and the exact route he takes. That's because some tricks just do not work in an SS run. You have to take a compromise between reliability and speed.
Also the 50 minute comment was assuming you're not using the new shortcuts. I wouldn't be that surprised to see it now that we have big cuts like skipping the big teleporter room. But I definitely expect to see at least a 5 minute differential between the segmented and SS times.
I'm almost sure it's been mentioned, but I'm not going through 46 pages to find it. Anyone doing an Episode One run? I just got it and beat it.. I don't have the time or patience right now to even consider it.

Little skips in a kill trigger, pretty risky that far in a run, but if it's quite consistant, I'll be looking into that when the time comes.
Do you refer to the trick where he jumps into the teleporter with a snark under him? That DOES consistently work because I’ve tried that a few times myself after seeing it. The beams kill the first thing in there before activating the teleportation, so as long as something dies under you it’ll take you to Xen.
I ran vendetta some time ago. I remember that there were some other trick through the game, not only boosted jumps. Also IIRC you won't have enough health to do all the big time saving boosts in game if you damage boost in the low gravity room in the first chapter (like you did in your vid). You can get up the last catwalk with simple jumps (well, maybe not simple, but still).
Afraid of Monsters Directors Cut has been released.
I've been playing it and forget what you know of the original, this mod is freaking brilliant. Its so well done and its such a massive improvement over the original. Speedrunning this will probably be a blast and not a chore unlike the original. I'm only on the very first part of the game and I'm already pissing me pants.
I beat it. God damn what a rush, it has 3 other endings but I think I can only handle playing this game once. Its a bit too much. Saying this is scary is an understatement, this shits all over FEAR and any other game claiming horror. The monsters themselves aren't that scary, its the use of sound and some great mapping that makes it so creepy. This is one of the best HL1 single player mods ever.
Can't wait to see a speedrun of this mod if its ever done.
