It's not safe to assume anything right now.
Ooooh that's what you mean by rotating or whatever lol
Still though glad to see HDMI being worked on

No.  You're looking at early test code.  That video does not represent how the final product will perform.

Quote from someonewhodied:
I know its still a bit early, but is there a price tag on this yet?
Nope.

The earliest I might have boards to sell is mid-June (an optimistic guess... no guarantees here).  I'm not taking preorders, so don't ask me about that please.  I threw a couple more pics up over here.  Yes, that's a USB-only board.  HDMI will come later.

It's always good to hear about your progress Loopy, you're truly an inspiration with this device. A friend of mine was working on a device for his university project in engineering, he never got something stable enough to record though, so it'll be interesting to see the final result of this.

Thanks for putting the time and effort into this. I don't think I've ever actually posted here with this account, I normally just talk on SRL's IRC, but I felt like it was necessary to thank you for the work you're doing. I'm sure a lot of people would thank you too.

Let us know of any future updates, it's always awesome to see.
It looks promiser, but does it support 3D? in other words, will it work to send both video channels of the upper screen?

I would honestly prefer the USB only. I'm likely to only use the USB anyway, it's sleeker, and likely cheaper (if only mildly). Though I'll buy it with just about any specs you give it and I get the simplicity of just selling the one board.

It certainly seems so.

Enzeru, in its current state, USB Capture can't capture 3D.
You can set your 3DS on (full) 3D, but my Screenshots still are in 2D (not like Mixt showed you), as a result.
HDMI supports 3D, but because my TV isn't a 3D TV, it shows some white lines over the picture instead.

Again, work in progress. The linked image shows that loopy was looking into it, and at least had success in the png capture. And really the only reason I would see off hand as to why he wouldn't would be processing time somewhere down the line, seeing as it doubles the effective resolution of the top screen.

Only because that's how the software was written.  It's capable of capturing 3D, I just didn't see the point in showing two slightly different images.

3D HDMI is not currently supported.
An usb only board is perfectly fine with me. I see hdmi as just a bonus feature.

Well, I hope the capture device support 3D HDMI in the finished version, I would like to record in 3D for Youtube.

Also I prefer HDMI over USB because the HDMI can support full 60fps while USB is limited to the power of your computer.
I only JUST caught wind of this project and found this thread. This is something I've been looking around for a long time. The progress is phenomenal, and I agree with the other posters above that USB-only is definitely the way to go. If possible, and when you get HDMI ready to be used on it, you should sell the HDMI models separate from USB-only models.

BBA, there already are plans for USB-only, and USB+HDMI Models.

It's like you want an iPad:
Do you want to pay less? Get a WiFi-only Model.
Do you want to pay more? Get a WiFi+3G Model.

Anyway, I'm actually looking forward for the next Firmware Update, which speeds up USB at least a bit.

Also, I've got some bugs to report:
- It sometimes happens, that if I have the Capture App open for a longer while, the borders around the Bottom Screen start to blink black-white-black-white, etc.
- The faster the action is, the laggier it looks like, even on Screenshots, but I suppose Loopy is aware of this.
- Having it on for a very long while, makes the USB performance a lot slower.
- HDMI screens are very stretched out on Wide Screens (I think the Bottom Screen is even more, but that's just a feeling, I think).
- On HDMI, if I turn on 3D, it shows some white lines, but you already said it's not yet supported, plus I don't really care about 3D, anyway.
- When being online with Mario Kart 7, and I have HyperCam2 on, my PC freezes after 1 or 2 tracks. This doesn't always happen, but it happens a lot. But this might a PC issue, even though I can have the same set up on for hours, when playing offline. Don't worry, the 3DS itself doesn't freeze.
Ahhh, I see. I must have missed that when I was reading through the thread. I was at work while I was doing so. Tongue Anyhow, it's really exciting to see progress on this project, especially after seeing super old posts about this project and nothing more before I found this thread. I really am anticipating the finished product. Keep it up! Smiley
Hey, just a couple of thoughts and questions that ran through my mind the other day.

Once you solder the board, will you know longer be able to see the content on the 3DS screen?

Also, if the answer to the last question is "No", when using the HDMI feature, would I be able to make content appear from one screen only?

You will see everything on your 3DS's screens.
If I couldn't, I couldn't even make new Records on Mario Kart 7, and Capture it for YouTube at the same time, because the USB Capture doesn't work that great yet.
While being on HDMI, you'll still see everything on the 3DS itself.

Also, you can even play on your 3DS without any Cables at all, if you want, but it won't Capture anything.

Also, when Updates will be started to roll out, I at least hope it won't be the way Sony does (3 Updates or so, every month), nor the way Nintendo does (1 Update per half year (3DS), or no Updates at all (Wii)).
Nothing worth mentioning, or are you guys really busy getting this to work? Tongue

There's only one person (loopy) putting work into this, everyone else is babbling their mouths fuzzy.

2 people are actually working on their own: Loopy and Katsukity.
They don't work on the same project, but both have the same goal: 3DS Capture Device.

From what I understand, katsukity uses loopy's board now. Before that he/she had only been able to capture the bottom screen, presumably with a modified dsi capture.

Well, at the other hand, the fact he/she uses the exact same Capture App, and the many similarities, you have a point.

Busy working.  I got some samples of what should be the final board rev, I'm testing it out now.  Once everything checks out, I'll begin producing larger quantities to sell.
So, this is the project we've been waiting for.

To be honest, I never believed this would be successful when I first found it via Google almost a year ago. But wow, you've done a great job on this! Depending on the price, I'll probably be picking one up.
~nya~
So you dropped HDMI for the presumably final revision? Nice, that makes the modded 3DS a lot slimmer than before! Can't wait to see the board in action / videos capture with it! Amazing work you've done Smiley
