DS Dictator
3DS will have a Expansion Slide Pad.
I bet they will rename it as Expansion Circle Pad here though.

More info:

Confirmed games:
Monster Hunter 3DS (Killer game for Japan really + released on a Nintendo Handheld)

It looks like a really unhandy device.
I hope it'll be used by only a few games, like most other accessoires for all Nintendo consoles/handhelds.
While talking about that, the official Partner-CTR Capture can't even reach the 3DS that way.

hopefully it goes the way of the DS rumble pak and e-reader and not many games use it.

how does the thing connect to the 3DS anyway? the system doesn't have expansion ports.

It doesn't need to, since things can connect via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and/or IR.

Yet another reason why I need to buy a 3DS soon.
Hey guys very unlikely that very few games will have it. In fact Nintendo blundered the release of the 3DS and it was in need of a second "circle-pad". Especially with the Playstation Vita Release just around the corner (December-ish), Nintendo needs to act fast and this is their response. An awkward, funny looking accessory. How do I know this?? Check this article out on IGN.com  (I basically summarized the article with what I said earlier...

IGN is full of crap nowadays.
King Wabasami
Even though IGN sucks. That accessory looks bad.
Though, this topic is less about circle pad attachments than capture devices, wouldn't you agree?
I think it would be fair to say they should go into a 3DS topic as to not disturb people only wanting to keep themselves up to date on capture devices (hey, who knows, they might exist!).

The best thing is, at least I'm trying to get on-topic.
Speaking of on-topic, did anybody here see this video yet? So cool, wish SDA had one... Sad

Well, YamiHoshi happens to own a very similar device that does the exact same thing, and if you read the stickies a forum member is selling an easy to install chip that enables video capture over USB.

Yes, but keep in mind that I'm no speedrunner, and I'm here to keep people up to date on 3DS, and DS Phat Capture Devices.
However, the original maker, Loopy, joined for the same reasons here as well.
Was following this a while back, then forgot and remembered now. Now I have a reason to post... not to sound grabby, but any further word on those 100 boards?
100 boards? Are you thinking of the DS capture device?  The thread got split Here.

To summarize, though:  I sent out a few test boards but got stuck trying to procure more parts.  I'm waiting on shipping now.  I MIGHT have something by the end of the week if I'm lucky.
Ah, didn't catch the split, sorry 'bout that. Thanks.

For the people like me, who have no HDMI In port on their computer, no HDMI-capable TV, nor any other HDMI Capture Devices (like DVD or Blu-Ray Recorder), I've made a simple ASCII drawing of how you can capture through HDMI ports, without using the USB port and having a slight chance on low frame rate:
Code:
	 ( ) Mac
[ ] EasyCap USB (Comp Female)
	  |
	  |
	  - Comp Male to HDMI Female Cable
	  |
	  |---{}	3DS

As you can see, I've been thinking of using EasyCap USB into a Mac (I currently only have Macs), which has Female Component cables.
Next, plug in the Male Component end into the Female Component ports of the EasyCap USB.
Finally, simply get a Male to Male HDMI Cable between your 3DS and the Comp to HDMI cable.

I know, it sounds complicated, it also took me hours to get the entire drawing and text as simple as possible.
For reference, I've been using YouTube video's that show how to record console games using Dazzle, but I thought, since the 3DS already has screens, I can simply drop the Splitter part, and I know there are factory Component to HDMI cables available.

Sorry for the confusion, let's do something simpler:
Code:
	( ) Mac
[ ] EasyCap USB (comes with Comp Female)
	 | HDMI Male to Comp Male Cable
	{ } 3DS

As you can see, I'm sticking an EasyCap USB in my Mac, and there's a special cable between the Component ports of EasyCap USB and the HDMI ports of the 3DS Capture Board.
I've checked out the cable, and it's available for € 4,- on eBay (cheapest), and EasyCap USB can be brought at DealExtreme for $ 9,- (cheapest), or locally for € 27,- (way faster than DealExtreme).

For the lazy people:
The cable: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=170659070304&Category=32837&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2#ht_2114wt_1156
EasyCap USB (Windows): http://www.dealextreme.com/p/easycap-usb-video-capture-adapter-5707
EasyCap USB (Mac): http://www.dealextreme.com/p/easycap-usb-2-0-audio-video-capture-surveillance-dongle-with-mac-os-support-26319
that's all great except for the fact that the easycap usb doesn't appear to support component video Wink
if you look at the images on the dealextreme site, you'll notice that it's composite (or s-video) video in and left and right audio in

I'm sure it's Component.
Ah well, I always confuse Component by Composite.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
good thing my capture card has HDMI input. the alternative sounded very convoluted.

Just to let you know, that cable will most certainly not let you capture hdmi using an easy cap.

for starters, that cable will not do anything about converting a digital hdmi signal to an analogue component signal, so you will need a device which is capable of doing that.

Secondly, easycaps will record composite input (not component), so even if that cable were able to do the kind of voodoo magic you ask of it, it would still be in the wrong format.

The interesting thing is that you can find cables which have whatever you want on either end, but those cables hardly do what most people think they will do, as they are merely connecting pins and do nothing to convert the actual video signal. The only legitimate uses of these cables are for specific devices which are actually capable of outputting the right kind of signal out of the wrong kind of port.

Just look at any site with user submitted reviews, and you will find the stories of hundreds of poor folks who didn't know better.

If you wanted something that actually did what you described there, you would need to pay quite a bit more for something like this.

Thanks for that then, I didn't know that.
But again, it was an untested theory.

Please don't waste your time & money testing it.  Tranquilite's post is spot on.

Reminds me when I worked at Best Buy and someone wanted to convert VGA to composite and L/R audio.  I told him we don't carry magical cables and he needed to buy a $50 transcoder box (for the VGA) along with a $3 3.5mm->2xRCA audio cable.  "There's this cable on eBay for $4 that does it all.  I was wondering if you had it in the store so I don't have to order it."  Haha, I was on the phone with him for a good 15 minutes explaining the nitty-gritty details of VGA->composite conversion (colorspace conversion, subcarrier modulation, etc.) and how that couldn't be done in a cable by crossing a few wires.  "There's a 0.001% chance that your Sony Vaio laptop has software that would detect that specific cable and enable a conversion circuit along with re-routed audio from the sound card."  He said he was gonna order it anyway and hung up.  Fun memory.
