I've been fooling around with a run I recorded on dvd and VDubMod, and somehow managed to export a video:

http://rapidshare.de/files/11472810/test.avi.html

Of course, it still bobs up and down, I couldn't import the audio for some reason, and it's probably too big a filesize and on completely wrong settings.  Hopefully Nate will write a hand-holding guide soon.

EDIT: I figured out the audio problem, but I accidentally recorded it to be very quiet. Roll Eyes  At least it doesn't lose quality when I change the volume in VDub.
That wasn't too bad. It looked pretty clean, aside from the slight shaking. Audio would be nice too ::).
Hey, good job avoiding the spike balls. And licking the key was awesome. Cheesy

Wow, nice. Yet there was 2 minor things I would've done had I been running it. When you have an opportunity of "downtime" such as you did with the shifting platform and all the shy guys throwing eggs; I would've been licking and throwing back, rather than playing it "safe." But that's only a personal preferance of mine. And finally, whenever you enter the final part, you walked on uneven ground, it's always faster to jump. Jumping on the shy guys, eating the last one, and finishing with 2 eggs would've been fine.

Anyway, I can't wait as you approach closer to being done. Which tape are you on now? #7? Smiley

Okay, I think I found a way to take care of the shaking, but I think the quality suffers from the different filter I used...or maybe it's just me.

http://rapidshare.de/files/11528738/bowser.avi.html

Most of this level plays itself... but that doesn't keep me from making mistakes  Tongue

What tape?  I'm done with tapes.  I just have two to document and I can send those off.  The rest I'm doing on dvd (I thought I said that?...), which is how I'm able to put them on the internets so fast.
Thought you were still on tapes too, but tech help forum makes it obvious. I don't know what to say about the vid, except that it looks a lot better than the interlacing picture. It seemed blurry, but then I compared it to 6-S and it was about the same. I dunno, might be nice to see what a Vdub pro thinks.
I will admit, when this topic was first brought about I didn't like the idea because I didn't think the runs would be all that great. But after seeing those two, you won me over. You've got skill. Smiley
Sleeping Terror
To fix bobbing you should use the Field Bob filter in Virtualdub after deinterlacing.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Before you send off, are you going to whip up some arthur comments on your min% runs? The only reason I didn't with my 100% improvements was because I didn't know you could at the time.
To appreciate this one (or most any of these), you should watch Marsh's 100% run.  Note they changed the name of the level.

http://rapidshare.de/files/11599574/ultcaschal.avi.html

Near the end, I spend one or two seconds avoiding coins I'm 99% sure aren't even red.  Then I fall in the water unnessecarily. Sad  I think the rest looks nice, though.

I'll definately write comments for most levels, especially since on one I'm faster than the TAS.  You know, gotta gloat.  Grin

Wow, I really want to know what level you top the TAS on with the GBA version! (It sounds very impressive)

It's the one with the trick I found that required all those screenshots to explain.  There's actually two shortcuts, the second of which was discovered first by the guys writing the Low% FAQ.  When I read it, it kinda killed my excitement, I thought I was the first to find out.  Sad

Anyways, the tapes are all sent out 'n stuff.  USPS sends tapes cheap.  Like, 3 bucks cheap.  I was suprised.  Shocked

I have a few more levels' routes all planned out and practiced, but before I post another video, check out this rediculous strategy for 'Hit that Switch!!' (taken from GameFAQs Low% guide):

Quote:
(abridged)
I would give this level a rating of 10, because it is about as hard as Sluggy's
Fort.  Duck under the red blocks.  Now, you'll need to execute a pixel-perfect
jump that will get you over all three coins and the flower without hovering. You
can't hover, because if you do, you'll lose speed and won't make it to the
Fourth Red Switch in time.  And if you jump just a little too early or too late,
you'll hit the flower.  Did you clear them all?  Good.  Now duck under the
blocks, and do it again.  You need to execute two consecutive pixel-perfect
jumps to dodge all this stuff without sacrificing any time.  Duck a third time,
and jump off the platform before you hit the third coin (the first two are
plain, but the next two are red).  If you hold your jump out completely (but
without hovering), you should come down right near the Fourth Red Switch. Hit
That Switch!!  (This is not an impossible task.  I have accomplished it at least
twice.)
Bump.  My 'hit that switch' audio seems to have disappeared because of some problems.  I think there might be up to a second's worth of improvement there anyways.

People like videos.

Exercise in the Skies

I've been slacking lately.  :-/  Blame it on this whole 'school' thing.

The last part with the falling platforms could be improved, but it's hard to say how specifically.  I look up a lot to try and hurry things up.

It seems that the bat-boosting trick at the beginning of 1-E takes way longer than just taking the rail... but it's the only option for low%.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong, to make it so slow.  Tongue
I must be really good at the internet to have four posts in a row.  Grin

http://rapidshare.de/files/12988830/wtf.avi.html

Really, wtf?  It just goes black all the sudden and doesn't respond to buttons...weird.  Even tried the reset combo (A+B+S+S).  You don't see it 'cuz I was too lazy to change the VDubMod settings, but the "Z:  Settings" thing was still there.  Good thing I wasn't trying a single-segment...

Did get that one recorded, though.  Remember the hidden flower near the second-to-last spinner...it's somewhat difficult to jump between the flower and the coin.

55 down, 5 to go

"Fight Toadies w/ Toadies" has a laundry list of things that can right or wrong at random.  Most come from the fact that it's easy to boost off enemies wrong (or short).  Sometimes I wish I could segment this one, cuz it's really four levels.

Sweet, you got done with my least favorite level! Almost there I guess.
Kamek = owned

Actually it might be possible to get hit earlier by flying cleaner.  I didn't put much effort into it 'cuz I thought I could take my time. Roll Eyes

I had a 4-E recorded with a score of 10, but I'm no longer sure that's the minimum score.  I also stupidly deleted it thinking I'd get a lower score immediately, which I didn't.  Tongue

Great. Keep it up.
Nice bubble grab. I wonder if it would help for a 100% level run, but it doesn't look like it.

Zero is indeed possible on 4-E.

(Took about 50 tries...on an emulator...with save states.  But that's not important right now)

Overall, this one'll probably impress...it contains a sequence break I think noone else knows about.  Also, I tried forever to push one of crates where you're not supposed to, but crates aren't as glitchy as chomp rocks  :-/

I'll try to record it tomorrow.  Bug me if I don't.

Yay a movie!

As promised.  Smiley  The end of this one is very hard, you'll notice Yoshi's turns back into green *just* before I hit the exit...luckily I was just going on inertia right then.

I ran into that DVR problem where a file will become invisible if it's where a previously finalized but deleted segment was on the disc, but that's easily fixed by simply recording another segment:

Might Morphin Power Yoshi

~15 seconds from morphing animations alone o.O

A bit shoddy submarining, and other misc mistakes... there's gotta be a way to skip that coin...maybe.

EDIT: Best I could do, you fall off immediately though:

Very nice :).  Looking forward to a published run.

BTW, your avatar is awesome!

Thank you  Cheesy  I made the gif for this.

Nate said he'd publish the dvr-faq on sunday, so I'll try to be done with all of em by then...and hopefully radix will be done processing the vhs ones!  I was fooling around in VDM and I think I figured out how to do multi-pass, and got this high quality (2048 kps, correct?) video to be about the file size of the medium quality.  (it's just 'hit that switch' again)

http://rapidshare.de/files/13526055/mptest.avi.html

I also fixed the ghosting, bobbing, and audio.  But it's still very quiet.  I get this horrible beep in the background if I try to increase the volume artificially, so turn up your speakers.

EDIT: woot

Something tells me I'm setting expectations too high for myself by posting things I got with an emulator...

Of course not. In fact, that's a great habit to have. It's what I apply to my 100%'s; that's why I plan to improve some of my already impressive 100%'s further by 4 or more seconds each.

Magnificently flawed and almost impossible Grin

I really had doubts about whether I'd get this one done at all... I've only even beaten the level 'single segment' once, and yer watching that one time!

~10sec improvement to 5-7, using a well-placed egg throw to run past a pirhana plant.

Don't tell my poor thumb, but 1-S is next on the cutting block...
Poochy Ain't Stupid, 2 stars  Angry

My goal is one star... zero is just too uncommon.  I only successfully get to the point of 'waiting for mario' once every hour or so.

The very looooong cave also needs improving down to 0 stars.  Why did I save the two most tedious runs for last?  Tongue

Wait, seriously?! All you have left is 1-E and 6-5? Yay!
