Well, I started playing this a bit, and I was wondering the possibilities of using this as a speed-run. Any thoughts? This would probably be level-by-level, instead of one segment for numerous reasons. What are the thoughts on this?
F = Family Mission
P = Prolouge
T = Training
1 = Chapter 1
2 = Chapter 2
3 = Chapter 3
4 = Chapter 4
5 = Chapter 5
6 = Chapter 6
E = Battle of Endor
A lowercase 'r' after a time will mean it is recorded.

1-1: Convoy Attack -- 5.56
1-2: Rescue Uncle Anton (F) -- 5.40
1-3: Recon of Imp Task Force -- 5.36
1-4: Rescue Echo Base Prisoners -- 10.16
1-5: Recover Imp Probe (F) 5.53

2-3: Kill K'arymn Viraxo (F) -- 5.01

For vids of (hopefully) levels, here's my youtube profile:

Thread title:
Speed is everything!
I would be interested Wink
It's-a me, Raven!
Count me in. One of the first mission I remember was scanning around 10-20 cargo containers; tedious and slow as hell... Cry

Yeah, mission 3. the first few family ones would be easy as heck... provided for when you're restricted to teh gun turret that the ship pilots somewhat decently. -_-

Anyways... aside from that, a few missions would be simple too, if you stay alive. almost anything where you're in an A-wing non-volunteeraily is insane to survive. X_x; inspecting many ships while attacked by 6 tie intercepters = not fun.

For me, the problem is figuring out how to record. I don't have the CD that allows me to, I gave that and the strat. guide to one of my friends. Aside from that, I'd have to become decent at the game again if I was to consider running it. aside from that, I'd help on the missions if I could. at least timing would be easy. XD

Hmm, the Game is long and full of badass missions, but I think it is speedrunnable. Good luck with it.

Thanks. I'll probably be goofing off on this game for a bit before I start running it... plus I have a FE run to finish. X_x; Sooo... plus, I need to find out how to record on the PC... if someone takes up working on this, then I'll help if I can.

goofing off on the first mission, I got a time of 5.56. That's with an A-Wing, for dogfighting stuff... but for the actual run, the question is how would it be set up? Use the craft given to you for the entire mission, or select a different vehicle? Some of them can be done MUCH faster in a different craft, or made a heck of a lot easier. (Anything with Y-wing or Z-95. X_x;)

Either way, I'm going to use a Beam system. for some of the missions, a Decoy beam would be great, but most of the time it'd be for moving faster. what's teh concensus?

Missions with only given craft, or select other vehicles for various missions?
I'm leaning toward neutral on that issue...

Actually, It could be two different classes of runs - Default vehicle and Selected vehicle.  This could also provide a useful precedent for Rogue Squadron on the N64/GCN (although I do doubt they'd let me run them in the Buick ;))

True... that's a good point. Default has a few advantages in some levels... selected in others.  of course, in some it wouldn't matter. (A-wing levels. Recon = sucks.) Also, it'd help. I'd never have to pilot the PoS taht is the Y-wing.

So, probably two catagories. Default Vehicle and Selected. *nods*

Well, on a few levels there isn't a default... you can select when on the actual tour. *sweatdrop*

Just find out whats best and take it. I don't think there should be 2 categories for this run, its part of strategy what vehicles you use...

Right, but it's different for New Game + esque, and normal playing. Like for levels where you ahve to disable stuff, having the Ion Warheads saves tons of time compared to playing for the actual mission... 1-4, you have to disable a dreadnaught--having the ion pulse warheads will save ungodly amounts of time... 0_o;;;

Trust me on the disabling stuff. at one point, I hit the objective target, disabled it, and had to restart the mission because the game didnt' know what to do. XD

Alright, I have 2 new times, finally. X_x;

1-2: rescue Uncle: 5.40

This... all you can do is move as fast as possible, dock twice, and get out. meaning--lasers and missles not needed. just turrents... and wait. and wait. and decoy beam. *smile evilly*

1-3: Recon msision 1: 5.36

Tough mission. very tricky mission. you fly through a huge imperial fleet with tons of ties on your ass, shooting. Trick--Decoy beam again, shields. When you need to destroy the probes, put cannons at Increased, direct power from shields to cannons, and kill. the last two I took out with missiles because... yeah. *shrugs*

I'll see about 1-4, I discovered firing on it immediately with the Ion Pulse warheads doesn't help in disabling. have to wait. -_-

Alright, I'll edit my times into the first post, sooo...

I've got 1-4 and 1-5 done.

1-4... There's not much you can do. 1st part is timed, so just dogfight, and be near the hyperpoint. 2nd part, the Y-wings have to take down the shields unless you're a B-Wing/Y-wing... Which slows down a LOT. After shields down, A-wing ion pulses it. ATR shows up, and then just dogfight until it hypers out. Easy... but just... not much you can do.

1-5 is easy... Falcon, move as fast as possible. With the first part, you kill the Muurian transport ASAP, and then you can kill the R-41's... I dunno if they'd destroy the Probe droid or not. After taht... the Customs area just blitz through as fast as possible. Shields & Lasers to engines... Beam at increased. Why? Y-wings will target... so you activate decoy beam. THey fly away, and you move VERY fast. ^_^ Will work on the rest of the 1st Chapter in a little...
Awesome! I've always wanted to see an X-Wing series speedrun.

Hmm, seeing this post still existing and updated once in a while makes me think the run could be out there some time. Just keep it on, I'm getting really interested in it.

Sorry I haven't been posting, I have other projects I'm doing (FE6), I got PKMN Pearl, and I've gotten sick sooo... distracted.

Plus, I need to clear through the rest of the game again... and get back up to skill as I was a couple of years ago. needless to say... this one will take a while to pull off. if I can figure otu how to record on the CPU and transfer to something like Youtube... it'll be good.

Kay, so I was playing campaign...

on level
3-6: Rendevous w/ Defector:

I killed the Star Destroyer, everythign's good... and suddeny the Liberty starts loosing ALL its Hull, and explodes for no reason. 0_O; I have NO. IDEA. WHY.

Anyways, on the 2-3 level...
Just fast through. I could do it faster if I ignored all the opponent forces. Hell, I don't need to destroy anything on that level, as long as the Andrasta doesn't blow up.
Long live SF64!
Sweet, I haven't been noticing this topic even though I've mentioned this game in General.

I hope this run gets made!  More Star Wars woohoo!

YoshMaster you should check out my Starfighter run if you're really into Star Wars stuff... it's a much less popular game, but I'm enjoying running it - I'm almost done actually, just trying to get below 1:20:00.

I've only ever watched this game played and never actually owned it, but I've heard it's awesome... how long do you think the run will take in the end?
Also tenkiforecast
In the end... I'm not sure. it depends on the level for speed-purposes... Some of them you have little to no control over the time it takes... 1-4, for example. the only way you speed up the map is disabling the Dreadnaught.

currently, just to progress in teh game I'm debating skipping 3-6 right now. I know what I'll do for the actual run of this map.

It'd be in the realm of 7 hours... and I'll need to look into how to record as well before I can start... and I have the FE6 run too... *sweatdrop* Either way, this'll be on and off.

I'll check on that... I love the dogfighting series of Star Wars. IMO, they're better than the FPS versions. heresy yes, I know how awesome Battlefront and the Dark Forces series are.

*B-Wing + Heavy Rockets = DEATH*
It is my opinion that TIE Fighter was the best Star Wars game ever, period. All games in the X-Wing series, however, are awesome beyond belief.

Only played alliance.

Progress in the game, and for getting times will be halted for... a bit. with FE6 run, AP test, and school finals nearing... I have little free time.

If anyone else has this game, feel free to post your times. I'm not recording, so any competition is welcomed.
Long live SF64!
Do well on those tests.... all of this will be there when you're done. Good luck!

Well, it's been a while since I last posted in this topic, but...

With progress on my FE6 run goign well, I've had more time to play this and get better at the game.  All I really need is how to record on the PC, and what programs are needed. Aside from that, I've gotten a new laptop, so my progress has to be restarted. I don't mind, I'll play on a higher difficulty, and play so (hopefully) I don't have to go back to Disc 1 after playing those levels, because they're just... tedious. (except Level 4 and 6).

I'm wondering about putting in the intro cutscene for the game (because it's just awesome) if I can figure out how to, soo... yeah. And if anyone has this game, and wants to contribute... GO AHEAD!!!
Also tenkiforecast
Okay, now that I've finished my FE6 speedrun, I can focus on this. My first goal will be getting my skill up right now, playing through the game, and then working on the fastest routes for various levels. On some, obviuosly, it won't matter at all. *coughs MOST FAMILY INTRO cough* Others... crucial.

I have downloaded the patch, so I can record missions/scenes/flight sim, but I can't figure out teh control to record. Does anyone know which it is?
Long live SF64!
Glad to see that this is now getting your direct attention! I look forward to following the progress. I'm sorry I don't have anything more helpful - just wanted to voice my continued interest in seeing more space shooter speedruns.

Great work so far!
