Let's don't and pretent that we did!
I managed to do a 29 minutes speedrun on the Beginner difficulty with massive saving (21 segments).

http://www.den94ek.cz/archive/ufo/ufo-en.htm

Coincidentally, I got the idea of speedrunning UFO like 14 days after tbgox did his run, but it was only after I found his vids and hints in that thread (http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=pcgames;action=display;num=1179976243) that I was able to finish it in a decent time.

There are no cuts between savegames with one exception - the very beginning, where I setup the base, equip ships and sell stuff. I realized only after I finished the game how terribly slow this first segment was so I re-recorded it - but I obviously couldn't hit the exact spot where I had originally built the base, so I did only the build facilities/equip ship/sell part and inserted it between the globes (the continuity - ie. money, stock, positions of buildings - was preserved). So it's in fact in 22 segments.

I played the X-COM Collectors Edition with f0dder's fix v0.5 (xcom1fix.exe), recording was done with Fraps.

tbgox: Respect for speedrunning it on Superhuman! Some parts vere terribly annoying even on Beginner.

Excellent run, although you sometimes don't seem to exactly know what to do.

Anyway, Vítej na SDA Smiley

Yeah, a lot faster but still lots of cringeworthy mistakes. If you can clean up the menu access, the 'no line of sight' stuff and your surplus buying/selling (why did you need 4 tanks, those extra guys, etc.) I urge you to send it in. Seriously, you have a good strategy - I didn't know you could avoid the base defence mission!

Hell, use more segments if it would help you get some perfect BattleScape fights.

This will be pretty boring, because a perfect, savescammed battlescape fight looks like this:

Start mission, save, use xcomutil to read the complete map, memorize where aliens are located, load game, fire into the dark killing all aliens in range, repeat about 8 times (depending on mission type)

Sure battlescape missions will take about 2 minutes to finish, but it will be pretty boring.

Hey, I would love that. Smiley
I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
I wouldn't. But of course, it's a thing of individual taste.
I can't watch the run yet, but i will, so comments will follow.
Fight, Crocogator, for everlasting peace!
Anyone still working on either a single segment or segmented run of either of the first two X-Com games? x.x
Personal Text:
Haha that's some crazy coincidence, just a month ago I was thinking, "an x-com speedrun would be cool", then straight after that "impossible", and here it is!

Nice work!
A brave heart can defy any odds!
If no one else is planning on it, I may attempt a run of the game soon. My old PC died and I'll be sending it to a buddy to see if the hard drive can be salvaged. Once I know one way or another, and if no one else has made plans by then, I'll probably take a stab at it. Gotta go read up on how best to encode from the raw file before that anyway.

Also, what difficulty would folks most like to see a run of game 1 on? Beginner for quicker or Superhuman to see the challenge busted apart?
Verified verifier and hangaround :)

Superhuman. No questions asked.
