Fucking Weeaboo
Natively, the Wii will not play games of other regions. However, it is possible via a piece of software called Priiloader to make the Wii region free. PAL and NTSC games still sometimes don't get along, but you could very easily play Japan games on a US Wii and vice versa.

Oh really? So I could use that on my PAL wii to play Japanese copies of games (specifically sunshine and luigi's mansion)? If so that's a huge help. Thanks for the information either way though. Sorry for being such a noob when it comes to the hardware/software side of things Sad

Like SirVG said, you can get NTSC-U wii's to play Japanese region games with homebrew. A short guide:

1) use LetterBomb or SmashStack and an SD card to install the Homebrew channel on your wii
2) Use GeckoOS or Priiloader to load games region free.

EDIT: You should also be able to get PAL wii's to play jp region games as well, at the hardware level all Wii's are the same.

Well, that's great. I knew about softmodding, and I knew this was a possibility, but I was kinda unsure. You've cleared a lot of stuff up for me guys, thanks a bunch. I'll remove the wii
