A couple days ago I decided I wanted to casually speedrun Dark Souls: PtD to keep it fun. I ran into an issue fairly quickly though, and then a couple others shortly after.
1st: I downloaded WSplit to obviously record my splits. I play Dark Souls on my PC with a 360 controller, so I set up the global hotkey button to be the Space Bar, but when I have Dark Souls as my active window, Global Hotkeys don't work. I tried windowed Dark Souls, and I tried rebinding all the keys in Dark Souls that were being used by WSplit to other buttons. The only "solution" I found is to run it in a windowed fullscreen(using GameCompanion) to tab out, start/split, and then quickly tab back in to skip cut scenes, ect.
People I've watched stream Dark Souls speedruns on the PC(vviking mostly. I assume he plays on PC. He has the loading screens disabled which I don't think you can do on consoles) doesn't do this, so he's found a workaround, I can't exactly go bugging him though(or maybe I could, but that'd be sorta rude I'd think). Any help getting WSplit(or another split program) to work with Dark Souls as my open window would be lovely.
Also, yes I have set up and enabled Global Hotkeys in WSplit. That was the first thing I checked.
2: Again with vviking, he plays Dark Souls in offline mode(not signed into Windows Live) and is able to save/quit and reload and his progress is still saved, but when I got to the end of a practice run, I quit out, and didn't even have the "Load Game" option. Help with this would be appreciated.
3: My Xbox controller is derping. Badly. When I'm playing a game that I'll use it for, the lights around the Xbox Dashboard button go out, half the buttons stop working, and Windows makes a stupid noise. Not a clue how to fix this outside of just getting a new controller, but I'd like to try to fix this anyway. Also, I'm guessing it's a software issue, which is why I'm mentioning it. If it was the actual controller I'd imagine it'd just stop working altogether. It's a wired GameStop brand pos controller btw. If that helps.
By the way, sorry if this doesn't belong here. I didn't see anywhere to post Dark Souls specific problems and there isn't any other speedrunning community I could find that had forums to post on.
If this isn't the right spot I'll edit/delete it/change it to a picture of a cute cat, that'd make everything better right :3 ? Anyway, help with these problems would be great!
