Looking back at some of the original games, I noticed Wolf3D and is there a run of the game?

I tried it, it's tough in anything other than "easy" because up close shots from enemies can be devastating!  And the doors take a bit to open, plus the controls are really ... abnormal.  But I was able to complete the first level in 33 seconds tops... levels after that, well, I don't know them very well, I'll have to study the maps and practice.

Anyway if anyone's interested in this challenge, it'd be great to see.  I think you move faster if you move diagonally... and there is an OpenGL port of Wolf3D http://wolfgl.narod.ru/ but I think it changes the game mechanics a little, cus you can strafe without holding the strafe button, while in the original wolfenstein, you can only strafe with the strafe button held.  Am not sure if it really matters though.

AFAIK, runs must be done in original game with original engine or in well known ports with unaltered game parameters.

It'd be nice to see Wolf3D run, though.
18 to the diablo2 holy grail
32 seconds ..
91 health left
8 bullets

beat that Tongue

get some ideas of how fast is fast.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Just a little bump on this - anyone doing this run? I would love to see it!
Speed is the key.
Yeah it would be cool, so get going and gl.

TIOLET!
If memory serves me right you get an updated version of Wolf3D with the RTCW platinum pack, that version works under XP. I can investigate this during the weekend when I have access to my computer again. Otherwise there is a re-release called Wolfenstein 3D - Xplosiv (cost like $8 USD) which also works under XP, I don't know if that one exist outside of Sweden though.

So doing a run of Wolf3D without having to fool around with stoneage OSes shouldn't be too hard.

Edit: I just ran the Wolf3D version you get with RTCW just fine under XP, sound and everything is working. It seems like Camtasia will be able to record a run of this game, Fraps is out of the question since it can only record D3D or OGL games.
I've played around with the opengl version a bit and it's pretty clear that a run on the easiest difficulty would be much faster than on the hardest, but also.. very boring. You can just run by all enemies in the first level for a time around 24 seconds or less, which would definitely get you killed on "i am death incarnate".
A run on that difficulty would be really nice to watch because the runner needs to balance taking weapons/health for future levels on the one hand and the speed of his current level on the other.

On a side note, wolfenstein's death screams are simply awesome. AAAIIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!  Grin
Easy is definitely not he way to go (ie. the baby one in my picture).  The one to use would be the normal difficulty or hard.  I am the death incarnate is impossible Cheesy

I tried the OpenGL but it's a little messed up.  Do the times show good for you?  What openGL port are you using?
Well, it seems that the level timer doesn't work correctly on my laptop using the NewWolf.exe. This port is kind of old and no longer updated. I also don't know if bj's running speed isn't too high with that version.
Anyway, I think the highest difficulty would be the way to go. It's managable, but presents the right amount of "excitement" for the runner.. huge amounts of enemies to kill, and no option of just running by. Definitely not for single segment, though.
