I'm already posting video responses to yours showing you how they should be done. (Your segment 3 is very nicely done, can only be improved by a second or two, segment 2 needs some work). You will have to put in lotsa effort and lotsa rerecords... not trying to put you down, you aren't bad at all, but I have already recorded those segments faster than you did them, and there are at least 5 people around here (Me, MrSparkles, ToiletPro, Marcus/ZeldaTPRunner, and YautjaElder) who have either recorded segments faster than those or are capable of doing so.

For starters I recommend getting the clothes in the first segment, since the route unreal wrote is indeed very highly optimized (still needs a little tweaking but that's mostly later on). You can see what segments 1,2,3,5,7 should look like on my youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/drybes . I am already on to later segments than that (finally), hopefully I can answer any detailed questions you have on youtube email or on AIM, DRybes.

As for timing, it starts in segment 1 when you gain control of link, and ends when you select "Yes" on the save menu. Every segment after that is the same, starts when you gain control (if you want to be technical this is usually the frame before your hearts appear), ends when you select yes.

Ok I'll work on Segment 1 some more and I really put alot of effort in Segment 3,it took an hour of failure and resetting.I'll chek your segments.

That's fine, this run is cursed so I think it will take at least 2 or 3 people working on it at once to actually get progress. I think the final time will be sub 6 hours now, and Stephen is looking into the practicality of skipping one rupee wallet upgrade, among other things (though I'm not sure it will be faster). Other things meaning... how often the wind has to change and a few other things with order, possibly opening a few triforce charts before the others if the pieces end up being more on the way during the quest (which ties in with the wallet upgrade... not necessary, in theory, if you decode 3 charts one occasion and 4 the next).

I also think I will collect the fairy for grandma soup right before going into DRC bossroom, as it's right there in a pot.

Yeah I'm working on that stuff, lazily. Also, ET needs some work, mainly that room before the final EGA Stone. And there is also the ET boss key skip trick I almost have, I think.

There is no doubt Outset's rupee upgrade takes longer, at about 2 minutes. So does warping to Tingle Island (C3), hookshotting up the latter, warping away from Tingle Island, and getting back to E3 for more 101 rupee loops take less than 2 minutes? Nope, although it's closer than you would think. I was forgetting the sailing back to E3 and just how long that would take (about 1.4 units, or 72 seconds IIRC). Just warping twice takes over 30 seconds, and you need 1184 rupees at the first Tingle visit as well. A7 could get the times closer, but it's 101 rupee trick takes slightly longer...

I didn't think it would be faster to skip the upgrade. What sort of work would we have in ET with all the tricks already there? And do tell about this boss key skip, as all the boss doors are very similar, I wonder if it would work in other places.

I hadn't seen it before, but it's pretty neat that someone found a way over the rock since I know people'd been trying. Totally pointless in a speedrun, not really a shortcut either, as it takes you to the ass-end of a one way room, but interesting to know it can be done.

Are there any rocks like this in the rest of the game that might save time? I can't really think of any.

I seem to recall there being a trick where you can get an item like a wooden sword on fire into a new room. Might be useful...

Also I had a bunch of tricks I was supposed to upload but neglected due to hard drive problems. Hopefully I can get it to you guys soon. I don't even remember if any of it was speedrun useful I just know I have the videos.

Kirby8943 did such a video a while ago (deleted). He threw a buring stick at a torch nearby a DRC door, then opened the door as the stick bounced into the new room. I have not messed with this trick any, and the video was very short, so I don't know much else about it. It's not useful in the current route, but with that video a few posts back it has the potential to save over a minute, I think...

In the first DRC segment just get the small key as usual, then get the stick through the door (would need to open then reenter due to the unlocking delay, perhaps), throw or somehow carry the stick past the rock to the right, then get the stick through that door as well (no idea how this would be done). It's not required that the stick stay burning, and if this works the segment could be very bad considering the massive luck and be faster still.

I'll get a file to this point tomarrow, and look into this! Grin

Well the only other one I remember is the rock that's next to the boss room but I don't know if we can go through the door.We can probably get OoB if we are able to climb it.

If it's alright with you I'm just going to use the current DRC route, this one seems complicated. Unless you're deadset on the idea that it's possible to do this and shave a minute...

Also, after lengthy discussion on AIM, I still can't figure out whether the soup will be worth it. I'm going to get it because I think it'll break even at worst, but it probably still shouldn't be used at every spot the current route suggests.

edit: Yes, I am currently in DRC, competitors take note, with a time upon entrance of less than 42 minutes (5 ahead of TSA). This might take a while because I have made it a point to match or beat every video ever posted so far (I'm going to stab whoever programmed orca), and yauty's last posted segment was at the start of DRC (albeit a short segment).

Here's what I think is the best route when killing the monsters after getting the Master Sword is a segmented run. Keep in mind saving before you kill all of them only resets them all. Consider the exit to the KoRL to be South and the exit to Ganon's Tower to be North. Optimally you would have 5 arrows at the start of this segment, an issue in the coming segments...

Starting near the South exit, drink some soup then finish the nearby Moblin. Go West up the stairs and get the 10 arrows in the pot. Continue North on the second floor and collect the bombs in the NW pot, killing the Moblin and Darknut as well. Collect the 10 arrows in the NE pot, proceed South and kill the 3 Moblins. Sidehop down to the first floor before the SE stairs and take out the Darknut there. Continue North, taking out some enemies along the way. Find the hiding enemies near the North exit, then head back towards the SW corner stairs (go up them!), killing whatever you see. This should be all of them (They do wander around).

Argh, now it seems like I'm missing an enemy in that route, but I've saved over the files nearby. I guess that just means it may need to be changed around some, but the 20 arrows are critical, fyi...

An outdated route, the current route(s) ignore granny's chest completely. The quote shows how much faster unreal's/my partial route is.

Viewing the Tetra text at the end of the previous segment may result in far better spotlight positions...

An outdated route, the current route(s) ignore granny's chest completely. The quote shows how much faster unreal's/my partial route is.

I set convenient start and end spots to only test the parts of the segments that matter. The spotlights are in the worst possible position for collecting the rupees. The way I did it was not easy, but I don't see much improvement there. A few of the times are slightly improvable, but not nearly enough to make one route faster than another. Viewing the Tetra text at the end of the previous segment may result in far better spotlight positions...
