AngerFist: It is cursed. I of course would do it once I could, but there are better runners out there that should do it. Drybes has not been on SDA in nearly 2 months. He was last on Youtube a week ago. He has not worked on the run in ages from what I understand. However today I started a quick nonsavewarping run, only timing it to see how things go and find any problems with the route (Seg 1 was 68 seconds faster, with 48 seconds of that being Unreal's rupee route)...

So if you view the Tetra text at the end of the Pirate ship segment (Instead of the start of the next segment) the spotlights are in a better position for collecting the rupees. Dodging the lights is not that hard at all, saves a second or 2 I'm sure, and may make the segment a little easier (No Tetra text).

Quote from Zm4rf:
To whoever is running this, are you going to use the infinite soup trick?  Or do you plan to never get hit?

The soup would be gathered (and glitched) for magic refills and double attack power in a segmented run. Damage is taken a few times to save time, but the game gives you at least 3 hearts if you save and continue with fewer, not that that is needed in the run either...

Edit: That bold "non".

I took the first post, and put Unreal's routes there. I'll get around to making it look halfway decent some day. So here's the first 1/3 of a new and improved route I'm working on. Further segmenting, better use of the cyclones, and less wind direction changing saves about 1:30 over Unreal's route. Of course some details are missing, they have to wait until the Triforce collecting (And ToG is a real pain)...

The Forsaken Fortress? Great to hear. So you completed segment 4, the one where you swim to Tetra, then do the rope swinging test? Awesome. I assume it was good enough of a segment to not warrent the optional save after Tetra? Did you veiw the Tetra text after the countdown cutscene or save right away? I'd suggest not saving right away (and want to see the segment if possible)...

I guess I'll get back to the route so I can figure out details like collecting rupees and Joy pendants, you will need that info soon. You're good to go until you get the sail...

Doing some tweaking on segment 4, think it could be faster. Segment 5 of course is a no brainer, can't really be shortened any, nor should it be combined with either other segment. I'm really glad you discovered that the searchlights are in a better spot if you save/quit after the tetra stone text... especially since it's that much less i'll have to sit through every time i screw up in FF. TPrunner's FF time is the example to match now Smiley

I'm not too worried about collecting joy pendants right now. i forget the total we need (20?) but i'll encounter more than enough enemies that hold them that planning the collecting of specific joy pendants might not even be necessary until after ToG. It's also faster to grapple them than to open a chest containing them. What I'm thinking about are pots that contain them along with rupees... specifically, how i can't remember which pots do :p

I am interested in hearing your wind methods but I suppose even then it's safe to play on to DRC without a change in the route so far. Talk to me on AIM or send a PM or two... all the PMs i've recieved in the past got corrupted somehow.

O Zlda?
After some frustration in having something little go wrong every time, I split 4 into 2 segments, wasting a precious second.

I'm about ready to do the FF, really the only part I have trouble with is (don't laugh) quickly killing the searchlight guy. The rest goes smooth, even the risky bit right before the sword. I did notice that since we're not skipping the tetra text, we now have to be careful not to press A as we approach the ladder or that's a good 30 seconds wasted on tutorial...

edit: update: bokoblin isn't much trouble now... my main frustrations are (a) missing the jump into the window 25% of the time, (b) taking a hit against boko or some other stupid 2 second error, and (C) that damn guard up top who it seems like its totally chance whether you get by or not. Any information on that guy would be GREATLY appreciated as he's really ruining a lot of great attempts up to that spot.

edit2: update2: I recorded a near perfect segment, let me know what you think: [movie removed]
I don't mean to be harsh (and I'm certainly not an expert at the game), but I didn't think that segment looked that good at all.
- The fight was horrible... it should be very possible to beat him without taking hit or dropping your weapon.
- Bumprolling into the wall looks sloppy.
- You alarmed the guard... wouldn't it be faster to sneak up to that point, so that he doesn't stand around thinking about whether or not he heard something? If he finishes his route without that, you can pass him faster.
- The part before walking over the second narrow path was also horrible...

If this was the entire segment, it's a rather short one... I don't think this many mistakes are needed, or are you in a hurry to finish it?

I kinda feel bad for practically giving up on this run. The lack of hardware and not being as familiar with the game as I thought I was were kinda discouraging. But I would still live to get an SS run on this once I get the hardware. Sorry for dying on you guys :C

Very nice. I would love to see more.

O Zlda?
I think part of the reason I lacked motivation to get started on this run was that many people (6 at least) have made segments to some degree already... most did not get past the first 25% of the game, but I've seen so many videos of the first half hour being played so well that it was very frustrating trying to beat or match everyone's time. The segments Yautja shared (1-4 and 9) are superb, his segment 3 being the standard I had to try about 500 times to land perfectly, and now FF has been the same way thanks to Marcus' excellent video (TPrunner on youtube).

Hopefully things will go faster once I pass the first hour or so mark and don't keep having all these wonderful examples to perform up to, although I am grateful that they exist, because competition fuels improvement. I am also lucky to have a great critic in the form of MrSparkles, who will probably make me redo the FF because it could be about 5 seconds faster.

edit: update: I did in fact do exactly that ^^^
O Zlda?
Alright, I went ahead and put the first seven segments on youtube in a playlist. Enjoy, and stuff. I promise I won't give away any more until it's all done... I mean it! Serious! (It's going to take a bit of effort)

O Zlda?
Quote from ZFG:
Why didn't you skip the tetra text at the beggining of FF?

It was discovered that the text skip causes a corruption considerably later in the game due to never having activated the gossip stone. I believe it happens when you come to Windfall to get the bombs and encounter the pirates again, since you talk to Tetra after that happens. By the skipped text's own admission, the gossip stone is an item that appears on the inventory screen, and if you skip that text, you'll never get it.
Quote from DRybes:

He would be absolutely correct in that assertion as well. Looking at the second half of segment two and the first of seven I noticed the following;

~Your rolling was often not directed in a straight line. I trust you remember we are working with Euclidean geometry here.
~Against Orca, you didn't use the fast attack strat in phase 5 and your reaction time was sub optimal.
~Against bokoblin 1, I seem to recall Yautja using a spin attack to instantly knock it over the edge. Is this not faster?
~You didn't appear to use the fast sidle technique though it is hard to differentiate from regular sidling so I may be wrong here. There was also the obvious delay on the second edge, again precious seconds.

The rest appeared to be okay but as we all know, appearances can be deceiving.

I do, thanks. The stick doesn't always cooperate... all my controllers are rather sensitive, since I unfortunately do not own a stock GCN controller. Is the difference really enough to warrant investment? I'm comfy with my madcatz mini...

I'm curious what parts you're talking about / if you have AIM. Everything prior to climbing the stairs after getting 40 rupees is in a fixed time... doing it faster would have no effect on the overall time. So I assume you mean my stair climb, in which case diagonals are faster. Or was it the wide angle turns? Or do you mean towards the end right before the sidleing? Which is looking pretty rough as I see it now.

Quote:

I attempted it and could never make it work. You discovered it many pages back I know, and there was never really a continued discussion on how to make it happen.

I never saw his FF segment so I didn't have it to go by. As far as I knew until just now only his segments 1-4 and then a segment in DRC were available Shocked

Am not aware of the fast sidle technique either.

I've actually been waiting for you to reappear in this thread because you seemed to set the standard at the pregame and I wanted to ask you about a few of these things. I would gladly redo 2 and 7 (and should probably try to tighten up 5) if there was more info about the aforementioned available.

Yautja did a segment 7 (FF segment)? I've never seen or heard of it. Never thought about quickspinning for a similar knockback to just throwing the pot at the first Bokoblin, I bet it would be easier. No idea how easy however, I'll have to try it real soon. What's this fast slide technique? You mean holding back just after a full speed roll? Did not know you could open doors in that state...
fast Sidle, not slide. Tongue

I am not aware of the fast Sidling method either. please elaborate c:
Speed is the key.

Hopefully it will be of use to you, good luck with your run.

That was the primary example though I believe there may have been others. Using the c-stick is always good for alignment.

I believe the key was to have a fast "reaction time" in the first attack, the inverted commas to signify the fact that the exact moment of attack can be predicted using the red arrow that bounces above Orca when you target him i.e. there is always a fixed amount of time that he waits. This can often cause an early attack in the next attack.

~You didn't appear to use the fast sidle technique though it is hard to differentiate from regular sidling so I may be wrong here. There was also the obvious delay on the second edge, again precious seconds.

Am not aware of the fast sidle technique either.

Then I take it you haven't read through this enitire thread for these valuable pieces of information.

What's this fast slide technique?

I am certain I have found a faster way to slide against walls. Instead of just holding the control stick left or right you do small pushes in the desired direction. I have yet to figure out the timing for the best speed. Could someone verify this for me? There is a chance this could mean something in the FF, I think.

I discovered this independently sometime after but to my dismay found that LinkTetra had already mentioned it. I don't remember how much time it saves, however, nor the exact technique.
O Zlda?
Thank you so much Yauty Smiley I have been waiting anxiously all day to come home and find a link to your segment. Henceforth your segments have been the standard to match.

And I appreciate your reply again Xenos. I've actually read the thread through multiple times and found the fast sidle on page 42 last night, it must have slipped my mind. I will have to try it out to see the difference. As far as Orca goes, I have to wonder if that's the only thing... I've had the Parry option appear immediately at the start of round 5 before once, but never inbetween the two moves :| so I will try it out some more.

I also am doing some basic testing that suggests it is faster to collect the 40 rupees in the FF courtyard in the same segment you are launched into it,  rather then at the start of the next segment... this will avoid the waiting involved there. I have to confirm it but I'm almost certain.

These FF rupees are becoming a real pain. I do not remember there being so much wait time with the spotlights when the Tetra text is triggered in the previous segment. However I am so very close to getting the first red rupee before the spotlight gets over there. Perfect roll timing and nearly exact aiming and still nothing, but I think it's possible. Would only save a few seconds if you could then get up the other stairs quickly, which I think you can. DRybes, this info could be very helpful if you wan't to get the rupees seperately from the rest of FF. You can make it up the stairs right away I think...

I'm torn between working with this more and getting to work with the Hyrule ->ET stuff. I want to sneak in a few Triforce charts before fixing the MS to possibly cut out a wind direction change, for example.

Really wish I could see that FF video Cry

O Zlda?
I haven't really analyzed the route post-ToG, but what are the minimum requirements to enter stone watcher? We could get money there as early as it is convenient if it would help, and possibly even stop by and have tingle decode a few charts, so we can actually collect shards during the quest instead of all at once, although I doubt it would be a timesaver. I would think Unreal looked into that already... ultimately it doesnt take too long to change the wind, so I think all the current route's chart collecting is near optimal.

edit: update: By a route change as well as Yauty's method of killing the bokoblin, I got my time down in the FF a net 10 seconds, with room for several more with improvement. Will youtube it, maybe, when I'm satisfied.

Tried the Orca strategy, only got it to work once, and that was when I wasn't recording. I need to figure out how to trigger the parry, and I dont think it has to do with timing because I was quite late in doing the first parry. I think it has to do with where both of you are standing in the room and in relation to each other, and it might help if you're in a corner. Regardless, when more progress is made I can come back to that segment easily. I redid it for a 2 second improvement over my old one. Also redid 4 and 5 for a second of improvement in each. Hopefully I'll be getting into new segments in the next day or two.
O Zlda?
Alright, my run up to getting the sail is 28:37 of gameplay, something like 3 and a half minutes ahead of the current run. Still could take off 3 more if I could get that Orca glitch to cooperate.

I think this proves without a doubt that for segmented runs, the Unreal rupee route is better than the under the house 100 rupee chest. By skipping it (and I'm comparing my times to Yautja, whos segments so far were impossible to beat by more than a second or two), I save 43 seconds in segment 1. Collecting the rupees from this route adds 1 second to my segment 3 (compared to his), 8 seconds to segment 6, and 8 seconds to segment 8, making things, all told, about 20-25 seconds faster this way (allowing that I may have done a few things a bit faster as well).

Segment 8 --> , and all the updates to older segs are up, will keep things updated here as they happen. Sorry for doublepost.
