I've been watching the speed runs from this site literally all weekend, my computer space must of been cut in half and its really inspirted me to try something like this myself. My GCSE's will be out the way soon and then i'm bound to have tons of spare time and reckon i may start some speed runs of my own.

I was just wondering what makes the regular speed runners keep doing more runs? From watching the OoT speed run its made me play the game again and i'm very impressed with the run. And also the 70star mario run... wow.

I think the reason i want to do a speed run is to be the best at a game, and so others can also see it. Must be a thrill knowing you are one of the greatest at a game.

If i where to try a game anytime soon, it would be MGS:Snake eater. I think i'll practice now and then till exams are out the way and then go for it myself, i cant wait!

Anyway, keep up the speed runs guys, it's real inspiration watching some of these runs.

GCSE's that means UK right? Well i thinks it great your gonna try MGS3 let me know if you have any questions about the game or about routes when you plan on running it. And in answers to your question.

I Only do MGS Speed Runs, why?, Becuase i want to be regarded as one of the Best MGS Players in Europe!

Yeah, i'm in England, we have GCSE's here. I've watched the entire snake eater speed run and believe i could beat it despite there being hardly and mistakes. But the thing is, this guy seems to do all the best strategies, which means i might be doing them too. But i don't want to copy the guy.

I like playing games, I'm good at games, and I like challenges which test my ability. This isn't limited to speedrunning; I enjoy playing games for score or just playing difficult games too.

Also, I like making things that people enjoy, which is why I record videos and post them online.

For me it's a new way to play games I love. It's fun to just play one game for a while and get really good at it. The satisfaction of knowing you currently hold a world record also makes it worthwhile.

Man, just thinking of holding a world record makes me scream!

MGS for PS1 forever.
I started because I wanted to enjoy games without having to play them...thus I recorded. I recorded MGS1 with all dialogue and cutscenes and soul reaver. This is why speedrunning is pretty natural for me.

So when it comes to all of the new stuff I do, I do it so I can just watch them later without having to boot the game up and play and die over and over again.

So you speed run them, and then after that just watch them like films?
MGS for PS1 forever.
Yeah.

After I had played through MGS1 for about he 80th time I knew that I could do something more constructive. I mean, I could recite the dialogue word for word...so I recorded it. And for the record...I do think that the cutscenes that are skippable in some games should be recorded at some point. If it's a game that is nothing but text, then just skip all of it. However, for a game like Max Payne where it has spoken dialogue and comic-style cutscenes I think those cutscenes should be recorded too.

Thats is a point, but most games take up time with cutscenes. Im pretty sure that most people would want to watch a speed run without the cut scenes, Probably becuase they've seen it so many times themsleves.

For me it´s cool to be best in a game and could be proud over it Tongue

But the best thing is that you can play the lovely game more than one time. with speedrun i Have motivation to beat the game more than once, and it´s fun.
Also to see how damm good you can bee Wink
Hey. It's kind of addictive I'd say. You set one record, then you need more. Besides, it gives you something to brag about and you might entertain someone as well.

Knowing the fact that you hold a record, May prove (Not allways prove)  the fact that you the best player at that game in the world. Now lets take MGS3 for example. The game has sold over what we say 5 million copies, therefore you are better than 5 million other players at the game. And lets not even talk about piracy copies!!

I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
About being the "best in the world", you should think about that of those millions that have the game, barely a thousand will play it even close to the time a speedrunner spends on a game to get really good.
I, personally, don't think more than ten people have spent as much time on Metroid Fusion as I have.

Needless to say, if I managed to get a really good Metroid Fusion time, which I will some day, then it is through experience and luck. I may be better at that specific game, but what does that matter when it just means I've put in more time in it? That is, with enough time, there are quite a few that can become just as good.
When I do a speedrun of Fusion, it'll be for the people at M2k2, not for myself.
Novice Speedwalker
Mostly my motivation is to press my skill level as far as possible, the other part is narcissism in wanting my name attached to a record of some sort. I don't try to speedrun much at all, unless something can be unlocked out of getting a good speed... haven't really thought of any games outside of Kirby Super Star of Katamari Damacy that I've wanted to run through.
(user is banned)
my motivation #1 is to run games that i played more than anything... and of the 3 games i hold record, there is 2 of them that i didn't played since a long time ago... you can see how much your skillz got better after all the time you are in front of your console or computer... also, what is better than when you finally, FINALLY finish a Single Segment run, and you know that you managed a damnit good time... run a game is like sex seriously Wink
I feel the same way.. I do speed runs because it feels good to know that you are one of the best in a certain game. I already know im one of the best at soccer so now im in video games for a while cause i didnt join soccer this year.. I had lost my papers  Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry but i guess its life right?......
I have actually a couple of runs on my computer.. I got 3 of Mega Man x2, 1 in contra III and im still working on the other one so im not telling you now what game is it

I like dissecting the game into its component parts and just clobbering the hell out the way the developers wanted the game to be played...I often wonder how the companies view speed runs. I know VALVe watched my HL2 run and Rare knows about the PD/GE Elite...pretty funny, I think.

I also like the challenge of just sitting down and figuring the game out. There's also the entertainment factor of sharing it with others.
