Formerly known as Skullboy
My name is Stephen. I'm 25.  I found SDA in 2006 while looking for videos of games being played that weren't on Youtube. Ironically, I wasn't able to watch too many runs here until early 2007 due to a dial up connection. I lurked around until the casual speed running tournament in late 2009. In terms of speed running, I am currently working on a 100% run of Knuckles' Chaotix. From there, who knows? One game at a time. I look forward to meeting many of these great gamers at the marathon in a few days. I am a big fan of 2D platformers and Metroidvania style games. I am a big fan of games by Treasure.

Outside of SDA, I am a full time college student. My major is English and my minor is Creative Writing. I graduate this spring and I will probably pursue a Masters in Popular Culture so I can enhance my love of film study and music.  I like to read, write, and compose. I am also actively involved at the church I attend. I am writing a novel and a screenplay.
#Casual
Wow, Skullboy: Novel, AND a screenplay?  What topic is it -- very curious.
Willing to teach you the impossible
My name is David Heidman Jr. I am not creative enough to come up with a good screen name. I am 24 years of age and feel like I am +60 sometimes (long story). I found SDA in 06 or 07 back when I was really into Morrowind. I found the speedrun of it and followed the information box link and made my way here. Since then, I watched about 80% of all the runs on the site. I have not played many of the games on the site, but I still just found them all to be either fun to watch or kinda like a good movie and could not stop watching. Regardless, I still keep up to date and I wish there was an update every day... But that is just me.

I want to continue with college and pursue a teaching degree in Secondary Education to teach high School students. I have always seemed to be naturally talented and almost everything I do, and because of that I have been an outcast from most social groups. But I have seem to found a home here... I like it.

I joined about a year ago ish. I did not know there was a forum till that time really. I watched a run and thought I could do better, so I looked at the [Submissions/Contact] on the main page and made my way to the forums. I quickly discovered just how much time went into a speedrun. My list of games that I want to run seems to expand more than it shrinks.

Over time, I have developed a strong sense of "home" here at SDA. I care too much about it for any negativity to start up, but in that same sense I seem to have really high standards towards the games I grew up with, and my passion can easily be viewed as negativity. Regardless, I am here to stay and do my part for SDA in any and every way I can.

Any other info anyone wants to know, PM me and I will do my best to answer ^^

My name is Michael Dunn.  I am 34 years old and have been playing video games almost my whole life.  When I was 4 or 5, I remember seeing Breakout over at one of my dad's coworker's house.  It wasn't long after that I was playing Atari 2600.  I remember when Super Mario Bros. came out.  I couldn't get enough of it!
I am a programmer, and have been since I was 9.  I enjoy working on TASes and knew about this site for a while.  I signed up here because a speedrun here improved the TAS I am working on.  I hope to help speedrunners improve runs with knowledge from TASing.

My name's Mike McKenzie. I'm 21 years old and I'd like to say I'm doing something useful with my life... but I'm working at the casino, helping people lose their money. Tongue

I found SDA some time in 2005, I'm almost certain the first runs I watched were some of the SSBM videos that were ridiculous at the time, but are supposedly out of date now. My history in competitive gaming goes back further, though: I was an inaugural member of The Sonic Center in 2003, and even before that I was one of the best players of Mario Kart Super Circuit from 2002. My philosophy on how I got into it is basically that I love video games, but I've never had very many at a time, and therefore I learned to get a lot out of each game.

Fun fact that will seem like blasphemy to many of you: I don't play NES games so the first time I saw Frezy post on the forums was in the Sonic 2 thread, saying that 50 minutes was a good (real) time for that game. Consequently I was thinking "lol who's this noob?" Suffice to say I found out a few years later. Smiley

Over the past year, I have developed a reputation for being British. This is pretty funny, doubly so because I do have a British girlfriend (she's actually contributed to one run in post-verification right now). Right now I'm spending most of my free time making sure that she won't be British for too much longer, though Cheesy

The name's Kyle Duffy, 21 and about to graduate with a bachelor's in Mathematical Technology this spring. After that I don't have a clue what I want to do with my life, so I'll most likely just go for some more schooling.

Haven't really been incredibly active here recently, I find I have less and less time to lurk around and think of relevant posts to add to a discussion, so I usually just watch, but I do drop in on a somewhat regular basis. Been meaning to go to MAGfest (and more recently the marathons) since I signed up here and got really far into making plans once, but it all kind of fell apart at the very last minute. I swear one day I'm going to make it.

I honestly couldn't tell you how I found SDA because I can't remember for the life of me, was probably looking for some gameplay videos online and stumbled across it. I made a forum account in 2007 I think under the name batman9502 in order to participate in discussion for the Paper Mario speedrun (which I did end up actually doing shortly thereafter). From then on I just kind of lurked for a while until I took aim at Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon's 100% category, since I love the chance to try to plan out the best routes for collectibles and the game (and series) is overall awesome. Since then I've had moderate success over on YouTube as a Let's Player, if anyone here cares about that sort of thing.

Anymore I'm not really a "serious" gamer, I've kept up with some of the new stuff but the majority of my current generation experience lies with Rock Band. Been with Harmonix games since Frequency on the PS2 and have kind of stuck with the series, when Rock Band 1 came out I actually went all the way up to 5th on the PS3 Guitar leaderboards for a little while. It didn't last long and now I'm not near as competitive with it, but I do still enjoy playing around.

Haven't had any real plans for runs for a little while, but for the last month or so I've off-and-on had my eye on Dynamite Headdy. No idea if I'll even get around to serious attempts though, much less actually pull one off with all the crap I want to try, but in sloppy practice I've beaten the current time by several minutes so who knows?

Sonical!
My name is Joaquín, and I am from Spain. I am 25 years old. When I was like 17 years old, I played Sonic Advance a lot. I loved it and enjoyed its soundtrack and time attack mode. I have always been a very competitive player and remember spending a lot of time time attacking Neo Green Hill Zone Act 1 as Sonic to improve my time. Then I completely forgot about Sonic Advance. Years later, at the end of 2006, I decided that it was time to show off. I started looking for sites to compare my times with the times of other players. My best times on Neo Green Hill Zone Act 1 as Sonic were:

- 0:34:20
- 0:34:27
- 0:34:28

Looking at those times, you should understand why I thought that I held the world record for that act as Sonic. I didn't find anything interesting searching for "sonic advance time attack" on Google. I was talking to a friend via WLM that day, and told him what I was trying to find. He suggested me to include "speed run" as key words. I was like: "What in the world does that mean?". I searched for "sonic advance speed run" and found a speedrun of the game as Sonic by NintenDan. That video amazed me and proved me wrong. There was a link to SDA in the description of the video. I lurked for some time, and created an account a couple months later. I have been watching speedruns and TASes since then.

So far I have made only a run for SDA (Sonic Advance as Knuckles). It is accepted and waiting to be published. I might make videos of individual acts as Sonic and submit them, but that won't be any soon. I want to speedrun other games and I will if I find the time.

As a Spanish native speaker, I have to say that  the last four posts are hilarious, especially PLAZMA2K2's. xD

My name's Haris Zaidi, but I go by Yama...which is funny.

A lot of people might think I copied Mike's name, but Yama has actually been my nickname since middle school. It came from the second half of "Hariyama" the Pokemon since I was (and still am) a pokemon nut in middle school, and the name just stuck. The "Captain" part comes from my love of everything pirate/nautical.

I am currently 19 years old, a sophomore in college majoring in pre-med. As far back as I can remember I've wanted to be a doctor, so this is what I'm going to do.

I have been coming to SDA for years, but I never really desired to be a part of the community, until I joined the forums. I was always intimidated to try and submit a speedrun myself, until I realized after a year or so of coming to SDA that I really wanted to become a published runner. In addition to that, I also want to become a member of this community, since I love this place and the atmosphere.

I've done a number of casual runs on emulator, like Paper Mario, Majora's Mask, Kirby 64, Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Crystal, but since these were casual attempts I wasn't really trying to get world records or anything. Still, having done those helped me to get my feet wet and develop the proper mindset for future speedrun attempts.

I am a big fan of a lot of runners on this site, and I hope to contribute myself with my Pokemon XD 100% run that I'm currently working on.

Heidman mentioned that this place felt like home to him. When I realized just what kind of community this is I told myself that I have to be a part of it. In real life I get mocked and ridiculed from people I know because I speedrun, but I could care less about what they think. Speedrunning's my passion, and I hope--even though I'm a new member--that I'll be welcomed here.
Weegee Time
I'm Rakuen, aka Aaron, and I'm a 22 year old Computer Science student.  My last semester is coming up, so that's pretty exciting.

I joined SDA around the start of 2010, when you all were running the Classic Games Done Quick marathon.  I found it a few months before that, while I was looking for runs of MMX4.  Since then, I've ended up sticking around here and largely leaving my old haunt behind.  Speedruns are just more interesting to me in general.  I'm one of those people who barely gets through new games but plays the heck out of older games.  I never had interest in the other self-imposed challenges, because many of them generally encourage very slow and cautious playing.  I think speedrunning promotes a good balance of cautious and aggressive playing.  I'm not terribly good at it though, I can't even approach Mike's time on X4!

Generally, I'm a laid back guy, but I can become a bit of a hardass at times, especially when I feel like my point isn't coming across properly.  Trust me when I say I used to be far worse about it.  My posts always reflect my mood because I type the same as I talk.  So don't rattle the hornet's nest. Tongue

Outside of speedrunning, I play a lot of TF2, watch a lot of anime, and (try to) keep up with new tech news.

As for future speedrunning plans, hopefully I'll be contributing a bit to the Super Meat Boy IL table, as I seem to be heavily addicted to this game.  Beyond that, I have possible plans for an FF5 SS, if only I could get over the motivational roadblock of running a game with a high likelihood of death.  I've also been thinking about another RPG... maybe Suikoden V...

My name is Dillon, aka Raigekii/Hoji808, 20 years old from Belgium.
I joined SDA forum only recently.

I play a lot of games, varying from genres, kind of like a jack of all trades.
I have ambitions to do speed runs, I've been watching speed runs for quite a while now, started out with HL2 Done Quick and it just blew my mind. Ever since then speed running has become an item on my lifelong to-do list.

Other than my love for gaming I also love making/listening to music (Artist name = Aplus) I do remixes on game soundtracks aswell as my own original songs. Just as a hobby though, I don't know if I can post a link to one of my songs here or not so I'm not going to.
Not really much more to say I think. Glad to have found these forums and I'm really looking forward to the marathon in a couple of days.

Peace.
I'm pevergreen. Also Nick. Soon to be 20 year old from Australia.

No idea when I first saw SDA. I know it was from andrewg's SMB runs though.

Since then I've spent my time wondering if I could actually do a game fast enough. I'm above average at all games, but not great at any.

So fear of spending the time running it, only for it to be really slow has prevented me from actually seriously attempt to run anything.

I'm Daniel, also known as The Swedish Cow, currently at the age of 26 living in Sweden (It's in Europe and it's Not the same as Switzerland).

I've been frequenting SDA for a long time, I think I stumbled upon it the first time somewhere early in 2003 when someone had showed me one of the Quake Done Quick videos and I went looking for a place that actually featured a video and not just the demos. I remember looking at a few videos on and off for a couple of years and occasionally read a few topics of the forum that sounded interesting, but it wasn't until 2008 that I actually registered and started being active in the community.

I have a Master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering and I am currently working as a system developer for a consultancy firm. I also have my own consultancy firm for web development that I worked within during my studies but at the moment I'm trying to phase that one out since I'm working 100% at the other one already.

I have a deep passion for gaming in general and I love to accomplish things other find entertaining, a combination which makes speed running the perfect thing to do. I really enjoy runs with well made audio commetaries (you could easily tell, since I'm running that thread now) which is also why any run from me will definitely be supplemented with one. I watched the entire D2 100% Sorcerer run despite not having played the game before just because of the awesome entertaining commentary.

I've been known to have a funny accent in my audio commentaries but I believe I only talk that way when I'm recording stuff in front of a computer and not if you actually met me and talked face to face. We'll see how well my assumption holds now at the marathon.

Apart from programming and gaming, I also enjoy playing the piano (a beginner still) and very recently picked up mountain climbing.

I'm Alex, 25 years old from Ontario, Canada.

I remember visiting the site way back when SDA was all about Quake Demos back in the day. I thought it was pretty neat, though I wasn't hardcore about Quake anymore past 2000, so it was just a passing thing for watching some of the Quake Done Quick videos. I began visiting the site and more regularly in about 2005 or so at about the same time when tasvideos, (then known as nesvideos) came into existence. I thought it was a nice complement to showing what people actually are able to do in a variety of games compared with what can theoretically be done with a game in a TAS.  I've been checking the site frequently for updates ever since.

Since the Marathon in 2010, I decided to join since the people here seemed pretty cool. I'm kind of big on the whole lurking thing, plus being lazy meant that I haven't gotten around to posting until now. Tongue

As for me, I have a B.Math in Computer Science, and have always enjoyed video games since I was very young. These days I have way more games than time to play them all, as my backloggery will confirm. I've done Tae Kwon Do and various martial arts stuff for many years in the past, though I gave it up to concentrate on school. Now that I work full-time I may get back into it at some point. Otherwise I enjoy reading stuff about computing and general, and am somewhat of a conoisseur on loose leaf tea, beer and spirits.

My favourite games are from the Metroid series, (Super, Zero Mission and Prime 1 are my favourites in that order), God Hand, plus many others. Maybe one day I'll attempt a 100% single segment hard mode run of Zero Mission, and also one for God Hand.

Catchin' them all
I'm Thomas, 25 years old from Holland/the Netherlands.

I got here because I visited m2k2 a lot back in the day and started speedrunning Metroid games. Sooner or later I got here. I started playing a lot more Zelda, when all the sequence breaks rolled around, but I had always liked Pokémon, most notably gen 1. I watched all the available Pokémon runs and felt I should run one too, but I figured I didn't know what to run because they were all so good.
Then, when time passed, I got ahold of a lot of cool tricks and after uploading my first actual recorded run (I bought the same recorder as Yautjaelder did, because I loved his run and thought the video quality was amazing, him living in Europe was great too, no region difference and what not). The actual glitched run wasn't bad, but soon after, I got a bit of help from the TASers, a few strats and general tips of things that could be done faster. So that's when I started running my newest glitched run. I knew it would be a lot faster. Sadly, it was only the second run that made it through, because I made a stupid error. An error so great, I had to restart.

All was not lost, because I beat my old record with 14 minutes when I reran the game.

I might just do another run for any% glitched, I think I know a few ways to scrape of a few more minutes (more then six would be cool, but I'm not expecting it). Proper testing has been done, but I played it on the emulator for easier route testing and since my sound was muted, the game actually ran faster then it should have, therefor, it had roughly the same time, or maybe a bit less. I don't remember.

Anyhow, also during all this, I made a route for 100% (as in catching 'em all) and during the recording, I made a grave mistake by accidently deleting a video. It's been a while that I even speedran, because I just don't have a lot of time anymore and generally don't feel like running (my current segment is around the 20 minute mark and while only the real luck-based part is in the beginning, I feel I need to go for the best; e.g. have Meowth appear on the very first patch of grass and caught with my last ball).

I also wanna run a SS any% non-glitched, but that's for later. And, one other game on the planning is Sword of Mana any%. I need more testing, but the route is pretty much planned. Sadly, in order to test it well, I need to pretty much run like I would when I actually record, which isn't always easy with the luck I need.

I also play SSBM competitive, I'm the average kind of guy. Smiley

I started a new study after having done (but not finished) two other studies and working inbetween. It's going pretty well so far, considering I've been out the running for quite a while. I'm studying Biology and Medical Lab Research. It's fun, but very time consuming! Wink

And although, it's been a while, I also play the piano and dance (Zouk, but I'm guessing you've never heard of that one lol).

I'm sinister1 from USA and I've been told I am too old to play video games.

Around 2007 I saw my first two SDA runs: Andrewg's SMB 1 in 5:00 and Hotarubi's Super Metroid SS in 32 minutes, and then I was like: Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I tend to like old school games, pretty much anything from Metroid Prime backwards. Once I noticed two of my favorite games of all time (Double Dragon II and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!) were notably missing from the NES games list I decided to take action. I am currently still working on MTPO and once I finish that will likely move to Super Punch-Out!! IL table. I also happen to live close enough to our fearless leader that I may do a TMNT IV co-op with him if I ever get good enough.

I work full time and my hobbies include poker, exercise, and anything related to American football.

Sunburstbasser, real name conrad.  My username comes from the first forum I registered for, a bass guitar forum.  My only bass had a sunburst finish, and I liked "basser" instead of "bassist."  I've used the nickname since then online.

I quit playing video games for a few years in high school and college.  When I got back into gaming, I went back to one of my favorites from the SNES, Super Metroid.  Eventually, I found Smokie's run, and started following SDA.  When I bought a copy of Metroid Prime, I became forever hooked on speedrunning.

I currently have no runs on SDA, but when I have the chance I do try to get some practice in.

My name is Austinn Jerome Hallman, but some of my friends call me Davis. I'm 17 years old and a high school student. A few years ago I was playing Donkey Kong Country 3, trying to beat my fastest times. I ended up getting quite fast, so I looked up the world record and that was when I started getting into speedrunning and SDA.

The runs that I have up now are 3 runs for DKC3 (100% segmented, any% SS, riverside race IL), and 1 that's being verified for Crash Team Racing (any% SS). As for future runs, I'm planning on taking a crack at the any% SMB record. I've only been playing SMB for 2 months now, but I've gotten very good at it, so we'll see how it goes.

As for hobbies, I love video games and speedrunning. I also play the piano and do some juggling in my free time.
My name is Kevin, I go by Lornkeit on the interwebs. I found SDA a long time ago through some speedruns I'd seen online elsewhere and only a week or so ago decided to join the forums. I'm not much of a poster on internet forums, preferring to lurk instead.

I live in Northern Virginia, a few miles outside of DC. I don't personally do any speed running; I prefer to watch the activity rather than participate in it. I like RPGs the most of any type of game, and FPS the least; the rest are all in varying regions between. I, in fact, don't get to play very many video games these days; I definitely have the bug, but lack the time. My focus is elsewhere at the moment in my life, as I'm currently in training to become an opera singer, and work at a middle school (which means early mornings and earlier nights!). I'm going to be in my first Opera this coming March, in concert, as a minor character; I'm hoping that in 4-5 years of training I'll be comfortable enough to start going for more major roles. Though I am not as obsessive about them, I enjoy music genres other than Opera, but tend to stay away from a lot of country and rap. Other interests of mine are books (top three: Metamorphoses, Frankenstein and War & Peace, in that order),  writing (though I'm really no good), food, and... well, if you really care, feel free to shoot me a PM and ask me, lol.

What goes on?

My name is Alex T, and I go by "the1stpkmnfan" (Pokemon, not Pikmin :P) on a few online forums. I'm 17, and currently in my Junior year of High School. From my username, you'd call me one who loves Pokemon games. Don't get me wrong, I love playing Pokemon games for fun and creating my own kinds of teams. I'm mainly a gamer who sticks with game series such as Mario, DK and The Legend of Zelda. I've been into playing games since I was a toddler, but I wasn't all that good at first. haha

I visited SDA a few times here and there, but I never usually checked out the forums so much. I would hope to, when it comes to achieving anything in speed running! I've watched the SDA marathons this and last year as well, and there's no question that everyones' speed runs are superb and well made. There's really more than meets the eye, I though when watching. There's no doubt I have a lot more to learn.
A couple of the runs that drew me here were the Pokemon Yellow speed run and the few that Essentia has done with Dr. Mario and DKC2. She's really one of the few people I heard about SDA from.

A few of the games I love the most are Super Mario Sunshine and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. My best personal record for Sunshine was 2:44 (2nd run), a lot better from my time of 2:56 (1st run). However, I could have never done it without the help of my friend who is a great gamer at playing Sunshine. I learned a lot from him when he did his runs. Another run that's close to my heart was my first run of the Minish Cap with a time of about 5:30. I didn't record my run though, so I didn't get an exact time count. I still wish to improve on both of these games, and especially more games out there! I even wanted to commit to any kind of Pokemon game run, but that's where research will come into play, since Pokemon is absolute deep business.

There's also a bunch of games out there that I would like to get my hands at speed running. The thing that's holding me back is simply all the school business I have with states test and my upcoming SATs. I've also got a dedication in Theatre, so I like spending my time with other Theatre troop members. So I don't always play games as my hobby, I like to branch out on other fun activites like acting, and especially Bowling as my favorite sport. One thing about me that yall will know, is that I always wish to improve. Whether it's gaming or anything I like to do.
You sayin' I like dudes?
My name is John, and I am 17 and from Canada. I've been using this site for years, but it never occurred to me to register onto the forums until today.

I'm in my senior year of high school and have been accepted into a pretty good business school for next year, which is cool. I also spend most of my free time as the drummer in an alternative rock band. My other hobbies include video games (of course) and growing out my back hair. If I remember correctly, I found this site while trying to find a really long Earthbound video.

I have never been a hardcore - balls to the wall - gamer, but watching the marathon this last week made me want to start trying speed runs. I guess it's because it's the first time that I've seen gaming for a noble cause, but it's still pretty radical. My favourite run from the marathon so far would probably be Tigger77's run of Link's Awakening. Such precision and Germanic accents set my heart aflutter.

For next year's marathon, if I become the world famous musician that I plan to currently ;), then I'll definitely donate a hefty sum to the charity. If not, then I guess I'll just put the "starving" back into "starving artist" and donate plenty anyways.

Dark Cloud 2 SS 4:34
Hello my name is Adam Bettcher, 21 from Minnesota USA.  Ive watched videos here for a while but never thought about trying speed runs myself until i was watching the 2011 awesome games done quick marathon.  Ive been a hardcore, 7 hour a day gamer since about 2005.  Ive played games since i was young but thats when i would say i became a serious gamer.  I love RPG games and have played many of them. Im a huge pokemon fan. Ive competed in the VGC the last couple years both times qualifying for nationals.  Im also very good at FPS console games.  Outside of gaming I enjoy sports.  I was on the wrestling team back in High School and am also a huge fan of Anime.  Finally i plan to run speed runs on some of my favorites like Dark Cloud 2, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, and maybe a few runs on older games then those.
