Killer Chobocos don't get any chocolate.
Many of you know that certain variables in a game are not always randomized the same way.  Sometimes the randomizer picks a seed based on a character or object name.

The most basic example would be Monster Rancher for the GBA (because I actually played it)... where the name you pick directly affects the monsters stats and type

Lesser known is in Dragon Warrior, your name affects your stats (supposedly)

Can anyone help me compile a list of games that use Name 'codes' to affect randomization?  and to follow up, discuss the BEST names to pick for these games.

DMC3,ZOE2 and Xenosaga 2.  Am I crazy?
Shocked
They affect the stats?
I didn´t know.
I know that in some games the name can be a cheat code.
pidgeons
The only game that I've noticed it having an effect was in Pokemon red/blue, where your name affects the high level pokemon you can fight while performing the MissingNo. glitch.
DMC3,ZOE2 and Xenosaga 2.  Am I crazy?
^^ Can you explain that more specifically?
Your almighty lordship
DxDyDzD gives you level 184-186 Mewtwos.

Most games randomize based upon time. If it doesn't, it's a crappy seed.

More more specifically, the net result of the glitch is that it reads your name as if it was an encounter list.
I think your character name on Phantasy Star Online determined your Section ID. Also on Harvest Moon for the Game Boy, the first letter of your name decided what crops you could grow.
I think that the Zelda: Oracles' games' passwords (from Ages to Seasons or vice versa) depends fully on your chosen name and your animal.

Or something like that.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
The best, most obvious example that I can think of is for highlander mode in D&D: Shadow over Mystara (the arcade game from Capcom). You need to pick a name that will get you a hat. Everyone just used to pick "cap" because that was easy to remember.

"I like to watch"
Making your name 'Help Me' in Castlevania 3 gave you 10 extra lives instead of 2.

- Don't think so, I have 2 carts w/ a Char named Acryte w/ different IDs. Plus, on the second one, I kept creating it over and over until I got the ID I wanted (sounds smart at first, till you realize I was still a PSO nub and just looked for which one went best w/ my color scheme... I had no idea about it affecting item drops  :o).

Secondly, this is an excellent topic and is very original. I hope people positively contribute what they do know.

That's unusual.  There are multiple online calculators for determining your Section ID and it's determined by your name.  Are you sure you're not remember it wrong?

Pretty sure  Huh? I should go test my crap again.
hmm... I tried one of those out. I tried Mayumi but didn't get yellowboze, then I made it all lowercase and it was yellowboze... I thought I capped the first letter, but maybe I'm wrong?? maybe my memory has different colors cause I capped/didn't cap?
I guess I stand corrected.  Grin

PSO *gasp* can't believe I didn't think of it, I have over 10'000 hours

I more for me

If you play "Paladin's Quest" and the first letter of your name is lower-case 'e' the game goes glitchy
hello there

So according to my calculations, you've clocked up over a whole year of play time?

Just how obsessed are you? Grin
DMC3,ZOE2 and Xenosaga 2.  Am I crazy?
Dude, 1 YEAR???
I dont think I have played that long in my entire life...
Killer Chobocos don't get any chocolate.
Well...solid online play for like 5 years will clock that much time (and I leave my guy on sometimes)

wow I thought I was pathetic because I had a little over 500 hrs. And that was just from 1 summer of PSO... never did get that heaven's Punisher... ;<

Meaning that you spend 1/5th of your day (including sleep time) playing.
It does seem a bit excessive - effectively 5 hours per day on average, every day, for 5 years.

Well.. since I got MapleStory I clock about 8 hours a day on it... again, mostly me leaving the guy on with the [Pay for Fame]  Board up
