What would the D, F, fdp values for Kirby's Return to Dreamland be?

If you need a sample, I'm guessing I'd need to encode it into an mp4 first? Wouldn't I need the above values to do so via anri-chan?

no. anri has a function just for making samples for this thread. you don't even have to use anri anyway, just post a short sample of gameplay of what comes out of your capture device that you are planning on feeding in to anri.

I put up a zip of a sample avi on here:

Thank you so much for leading me through this; i'm completely new in recording and technical stuff <_<
d1 f1 3d
Wondering what the D, F, fdp values are for Dungeon Magic from the Taito Legends 2 collection for PS2.

d4 f1 2d

you will probably need to use one of the de-deflickering options in the window anri pops up ... let me know if you can't get it to stop jumping when you encode it.

Could you elaborate on the de-deflickering thing?  Is it something involving the interlacing in the capture? (I recorded off a dazzle, in vdub with lagarith)

I'm also assuming the black spaces on the sides and top/bottom will need to be cropped when it comes time to encode.
it's nothing to do with the capture. when you're going through the wizard in anri it shows you a window with a bunch of options for filtering the video and some of them involve de-deflickering. you can step through the video and pick the one that looks the best. for de-deflickering there is usually a bit of residual bobbing but it's invisible when the video is played back at normal speed.

i usually don't crop any borders unless they were added to kludge aspect ratio which iirc is not the case here.
I believe the borders are from the dazzle itself, I've noticed it with a couple games played through there.

Anyways, thanks for the info.  It'll definitely help later on.
Hey guys. I want to put up a quality test for my Heavy Rain (PS3; PAL) speedrun, but I'm not completely sure about the settings.

Sample file: http://www.mediafire.com/?8scnyc2cucz6xch

My guess is d1 f1 3d. Is that correct?

Thank you very much Smiley

It's hard to tell since there really isn't much action going on in that scene. If possible, can you capture some footage of you having control over the camera/action in the game itself? Also, can you list the capture hardware/program you're using? Any settings you're using for the capture would also be appreciated. From that clip it looks like you're capturing progressive at 25fps, and the game is using motion blur to smooth things out, which would be D1 F2 3D, but without knowing how you're capturing I can't be certain.
Thanks for your quick answer Smiley

Here is a sample with gameplay: http://www.mediafire.com/?hv7irmuja67fvum

I'm capturing directly from my PS3 over HDMI with the AverMedia AverTV CaptureHD H727 capture card. The PS3's resolution is set to 720p. I'm recording with Fraps, which is set to 25 fps. 30 fps is possible too (smoother), but I live in Europe, so I just used 25 fps (PAL). I'm not sure if this is needed for the PS3?

The sample was created with Anri-chan's sample function, so it's not completely raw I believe.
The Dork Knight himself.
I'm going to defer to Nate for the final answer, but here are a few things I can say:

The video quality looks good, but check to see what framerate the Aver software is capturing at. Considering that Fraps can record the footage, check the framerate counter that it displays and make sure that Fraps is set to the same framerate when recording. Even though Fraps *can* capture at a framerate higher than 25, doing so is useless if the console and capture card are only working at 25fps (doubled frames are annoying to see, and they mess with timing an official run).

Having said that, to me, it still looks like D1 F2 3D. Just don't take my word for it, wait for Nate or one of the other admins to confirm.
I can't see the overlay display of Fraps for some reason, but I did a benchmark for about 30 seconds. The average was 60 FPS. I didn't expect it to be that high, but nice I guess. I recorded a new sample in 60 FPS: http://www.mediafire.com/?h2mezhl9ybkdsdc

My PC can handle it, but I'm a bit worry about the file size, because the speedrun is going to be over 3 hours long (single segment). Might be a bit too much, but I should be able to manage it somehow.

So do you suggest I should record in 60 FPS then, or rather in 30 FPS?

OK, I wait for him Wink
is it just me or is every other frame doubled in that last sample? if you're limited to 30 fps it's not that big of a deal, just pointless to capture at 60 fps then.

i think when you say yes to the pc/progressive scan video question in anri, the d/f settings don't really matter anymore. does it even ask you?
The Dork Knight himself.
It doesn't ask me, and it appears to automatically choose the appropriate settings based on the source resolution and framerate. If I load in a test video from Vampire Bloodlines (1024x768@60fps) it auto-chooses D1 F1 3D. So for your capture setup Hamers just tell Anri that it's an AVI file captured from a PC source and you'll be set. It does appear that capturing at 60fps doubles every frame, so 30 is definitely your capture card's limit and what Fraps should be set to.

Thank you guys. 30 FPS is it then. Weird, it did ask me about the d/f settings. I said no to the PC question and yes to the progressive question. But since NTSC/PAL doesn't seem to matter here that much, I can probably say yes to the PC question too.  I keep D1 F2 3D in mind just in case. Will do a full quality test today or tomorrow Smiley

Thanks again. This helped a lot.

Thanks again. I just looked at the knowledge base again and realized how much of an idiot I was for missing that at the top. Sorry.

Looking for the d, f, and fdp for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Hope I did this right. Tongue
