See that? That's the same username, avatar, and sig I use on this forum. There's one problem. That isn't me. I'm confused.

So which one of you is going around imping me? >_>

I'd PM the forum admins there, link to this profile of yours, point out the join date, and ask him to remove the user who copies you. If you're polite and the admin there is still human, you'll have good chances of succeeding.
He's got 14 posts. What did he post?
Maybe you have an admierer.
Or a split personality thats not all that different from you...

Let me think, if I was a forum admin and someone who I don't know PMs me and claims that someone who I also don't know but looks very similar is stealing his personality and requests me to remove one of them I'd do three things:

- Roll on the floor laughing
- Not give a damn
- Proceed to not give a damn

Seriously, get a grip on human nature... Wink

I don't know about them, but the 3 forum admins of the forum I'm most active in do give a damn. Impersonation is against most forum rules after all.
Our admins would send the user in question a PM, asking about his reasons. Wrong answer (or no answer at all) and bye bye. We've had similar situations before.

And I'd expect a certain degree of professionalism from admins on a 5K-user-board. Wink

Anyway, the worst that can happen is that they ignore your mail. I'd give it a try.
TIOLET!
If they are serious admins they should do something about it. I'm a forum admin myself on one of Sweden's largest counter-strike sites and all such things as impersonations are treated seriously if brought to us in a serious way. So be serious (duh!) when you bring it up and they will most likely look into it.

Does he use the same login password?  That would be uncool.

Ah what the heck, I was going to post a rhethorically brilliant argument about why I think impersonation doesn't apply here, but I can't concentrate tonight.

Summary:
- I've never thought about my nick or that of everyone else as a real identity.
- Thus, impersonation it may be, but it never occured to me that someone would actually claim a nick (maybe combined with avatar and sig) as his identity.
- Unless there is some kind of money or reputation for the community in question at stake, I don't think I'd back up such a claim. Clearification. If someone comes into this forum and claims to be TSA, he'll get shot. If he does it somewhere else, including a gaming site, you strictly can't say anything about it.
- Unless you've got some kind of backup id, then I don't see why an admin would react on such a claim. If I wanted to steal someone's nick on a different forum, and the admin would ask me in a PM what's going on, I'd just reply "oh yeah, that kid... just ignore him, he thinks I've stolen his whatever, just because we happen to share a hobby".

Feel free to crush that, in my current state it's possible I'm telling you the sky is violet. Wait a second... it is...

can happen, but you'd be surprised how many people overview the obvious correct response to an asking PM. Wink

"Hey, user xxx claims you've stolen his windforce."
"oh.. no no, what really happened is this: <insert stupid lies here>"
"bad luck dude, we got screenshots. They don't prove that you stole the windforce, but they prove that you just lied." *ban*
watching our admins and fellow co-moderators work can be fun at times. Smiley

and even if he dements, there is this thread. How many people in here can vow to have seen our Lucid Faia before 01-05-2006? I can.

If this kind of impersonation was about money or reputation it'd be against more than just forum rules btw. Irrespective of the definition of impersonation, it's still rude to copy nick&signature, and something a caring and responsible admin will act against.

But then again, I'm not really interested in discussing this matter with you. It was just a suggestion to Lucid, and it's up to him to send or not to send a mail.

oh, and the sky is pitch black. it's 2:30 am here. Tongue

Hmm, central european time. Nice time zone, I live here too (weird sky, isn't it?) Wink

Anywhat, I didn't want to start a discussion about that.
Maybe I'm just lacking admin experience, who knows.

If they knew the right answer they'd be in this forum with all the other cool kids. Wink

If it were me I'd force them to change it (seeing as this name is my nickname at school and pretty much everywhere)
Yeah, I said it.
Well, the situation has been resolved. Apparently, this guy wasn't feeling very creative when making an account, so he just used my information when making one, because he liked the name, or so he says. I don't know if I buy that, but he gave me the password to the account via PM earlier, so all's well. I'm pleasantly surprised that it came to such a simple and civil ending.

Hats off to him for doing it in a civil manner, but a wag of the finger for being unoriginal.

If someone would take my name and all my staff and brag over the internet, I would be pissed.

hmm, wow, he must not be that bad after all if he gave it up without an argument
