Ahaha don't be ridiculous :-p I've not even practised realtime speedrunning that game yet. I'll definitely have Alisia Dragoon to play though, so that's something.

Sounds to me like the first question of having enough interested people or not is pretty solidly answered with a "Yes" now.

Which means we should probably be concentrating on the other two most important questions.

Where and when?

If Sweden is out, then Germany definitely sounds like an idea to me. Also, still saying that we should definitely have it after school's out (okay, that's mainly because it would probably be impossible for me to attend something outside Sweden if it's not, but I'm probably not the only one in that position). So, middle of June is my suggestion.

I vote August, too. As for the location, as long as it's in the Netherlands/Germany and close enough to an airport, it shouldn't matter too much.

I'm not sure how much a fan I would personally be of August. Maybe the second weekend of August - I'm always busy the first weekend of August, big con over here, which is why I couldn't watch anything of SGDQ this year. The latter half of August would most likely be a no-no for me.

Edit: And, of course, August is only an option if this would actually be in place of SGDQ. Which is what I took an earlier comment from Mike to mean, at least the possibility.

Capital One is the only company I found that doesn't charge and it's probably something restricted to people with great credit anyway. Kinda makes sense when you think that all of Europe is only 500k square kilos larger than the whole of the US. You just have 50 countries and we have 50 states. Tongue

As someone on the west coast USA, I really wouldn't want this to replace SGDQ. There might be 2 USA marathons, but our choices of transportation sucks compared to yours.

I think I actually confused SGDQ and the online marathon, somehow. This would replace the latter, not the former. So if SGDQ is still on, then we should definitely be looking at early summer.

I live in sweden and would like to participate. As of location Germany sounds good to me.

I just hope I'm good enough to run a game and that I have the time and money. Otherwise I hope there is some other work I could help out with so that I can meet all the cool kids!

I second Tigger77s idea. Put SGDQ to early summer as a "start into summer", and make the European marathon late summer since we only get our piece of summer that late(it has been very veeeery cold early summer this year :/)

My feelings on The Demon Rush

It probably makes more sense to make SGDQ early summer since most universities in the US are done with finals around mid-May, and if they're on a quarter system, usually by early-mid June.

And, well then, if SGDQ is moved to early summer, then the second weekend of August for this seems like it would work for most people. That is, assuming we want to start on the Thursday, 9-12 of August.

I don't think you need to have a list of people who express interest. A lot of people will express interest. The big thing is actually planning the event. Finding a location, charity, and a place to stay (if the location doesn't have lodging). I wouldn't really work too hard on that until after AGDQ, since this marathon is a ways off.

Well, I said I'd add one if someone requested one.

ozzy requested one, so here we are.

(but yeah, that's pretty much why I didn't add one originally. And when I made this thread, I still had early summer in mind, but now we got two additional months to work with.)

maybe a list of people how have interest in organize the event would be usefuller but mike is right it would be better to make serious planning after AGDQ

I agree with Tigger77. People willing to organizing the event is more helpful at this point than people expressing interest. Also, we already know the interest is there, but knowing whether people can come or not is more important, which is why knowing the location is important (people can gauge travel costs, etc.).

Well, deciding the place and deciding the date was the current question. I think the only three location suggestions we have so far are Sweden, Netherlands and Germany, and there's most support for Germany.

So if there's no other good ideas...

I would volunteer to help organizing the event if time allows. That's actually the time frame where I wanted to start looking for an university in Berlin and move there and all, but if everything goes well: I don't see how I could not help.

So yeah, I live in germany.

I just wanted to say that if we're doing SGDQ at my house again, anytime in the summer should work for me. So it would be fine to move SGDQ to early summer and have the European marathon later in the summer.
