Would you guys be interested in having Warcraft III Done Quick and The Frozen Throne Done Quick up on this site? =)

It was a collaborative effort I organised on a Blizzard fansite quite a while ago now, but there are a few, hmm... well, disruptive things about watching it. =)

Firstly, the only way to watch them is in the game itself, it wouldn't make much sense making videos of it, because most of the time you are doing two or more things at once on different parts of the map so you'd miss a lot of cool stuff.

Secondly, you have to download the maps (into a specific directory) aswell as the replays because I had to change a property in all the maps to allow them to be recorded in the first place.

Thirdly, all of the maps for Warcraft III Done Quick are in version 1.12 (excluding one which is in 1.14a (Argh!), I can actually use a different replay that's in v1.12 but 2 seconds slower though, so that is easily remedied). Furthermore, all the maps for The Frozen Throne Done Quick are in v1.14a. And since both games are up to v1.18 or something now, that poses a pretty big annoyance.
Now there are standalone patches that can take you from the initial version of the game up to those versions, but not back down. =/

Below is a list of the times just so you can see what they're like. =)

Hmm, they won't fit in one post. =)

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Wow, those are some pretty good times. Too bad all the patching makes it a pain to view old replays :/.
Yeah, some guy had actually previously made a version changing program, that even let you just double-click replays and it would switch the game to the proper version, load it up and play it. But work on that was stopped over a year ago and it doesn't support the versions I need for this.
Your almighty lordship
Those are actually some awesome times. If someone captures them on DivX, we wouldn't have to worry about all those version problems :P. I'd love to see some of these in action (especially A Symphony of Frost and Flame).

There are quite a few maps where video would work - namely, the ones where you're runnning around with a very small force the entire time, but the large majority of them you're doing multiple things at once on different parts of the map, flicking back and forwards and not actually watching what you're doing; so video would kind of suck. =/

To make it spectator friendly, you really gotta let them choose what to watch, it lets you scoot around big battles and take in all the action, jump around the map to watch whatever you want, whenever you want.
Sleeping Terror
Seems to me that the best way to record video from them would be capturing a video of what the original player sees... but I don't think that data is preserved in the replay. Replay would still be better when you can view them, but video is much more convenient.

Where can I download these replays? This is the first I've heard of it, and I would like to watch it, even if I have to reinstall and patch to a different version.

Also, what difficulty are these done on? You didn't mention it, so I assume the default of Normal?

Oh yeah, forgot about that, it's all easy difficulty I think. =)
That wasn't a specification though, it was just do it on whatever will get you through the maps the quickest.

The only extra stuff recorded in the replays is what you have selected - there is some automatic mode that continually centres the map on whatever you've got selected, but that's not that useful.

I don't know what the rules on advertising here are, but if you want to watch them, they're still up on the Blizzard fansite in the forums here:
http://www.infoceptor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9513
and here:
http://www.infoceptor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12867
Gives a couple lines instruction on how to watch them too.

Edit: Speaking of things I forgot to mention... =) The maps were all done individually, it was a pretty massive effort to get them all done anyhow, but coordinating each map to continue on from the last one was a bit much. =) The repercussions for this aren't too big though, it just means your heroes will likely start out at a different level and with different items than they had at the end of the last map. The game is generous though; if you start from a map in the middle of a campaign they'll adjust your hero level accordingly and give you some items.
18 to the diablo2 holy grail
i dont understand how the ingame view looks worse than a program capturing EXACTLY that ..

more people could watch it that way.

You're right actually, I went and watched a whole bunch again last night, and all the cool ones are the ones where you have a bunch of guys with a specific objective.

What I was worried about before is when you're doing multiple things at once and not actually watching one of them, you can't see both things at once, but that doesn't happen all that often really.

Now the problem becomes how to record them into avi and upload them. I could probably be told how to record them, but uploading them would take forever since I'm on a 56k connection here. But whatever, bring it on. =)
Weakling!
um i cant get them to work at all... i have v1.16 so they wont work...
Well of course you can't. =)
You'd have to install a new copy and patch it to 1.12 for the Warcraft III ones or patch it 1.14a to watch The Frozen Throne ones. =)
MGS for PS1 forever.
You can copy Warcraft III to the C:\ and install a new copy and then patch it.

Weakling!
how do i patch to just 1.12 i cant find it anywhere...

EDIT: nm found it
on a kind-of related note, are there any starcraft speed runs out there??
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I tried making one for one of the levels, but the replay feature is not reliable on maps with triggers, so it would have to be made using Fraps or something. Also, it would probably be a lot longer in general, as compared to Warcraft 3 there are a lot more "destroy all enemy buildings" levels in SC.
On the German site www.broodwar.de is a "StarCraft Done Quick" at work. The original campaigns were transferred into standalone missions, so replays are working on them. I haven't checked the actual replays myself. The whole project has just started.

That's what I tried to do, but the replays tend not to play back correctly.
