I redid chapter 8, because one of my viewers on youtube pointed out an obvious mistake, which was not buying the ogres straight away with Muradin instead of Arthas. That shaved off 4 more seconds:
Hmm. I just had the idea on level 8 of killing a mortar team at the start and ressurrecting it on the other side of the cliff to the right, inside the human base, so it could blast a path south through the trees and blow up the final boat before Muradin gets there. Unfortunately it seems the code for placing units when they're ressurrected or teleported makes very sure not to let them end up on the wrong side of a cliff, so unless anyone knows a way of breaking this that I don't, this probably isn't doable.
BTW it's great to see some progress on this. Nice work.
Edit: Hmm, is it possible to get by with only one ogre magi to save some money to buy items? Besides a potion of mana, I would've thought an Amulet Of Recall could be handy for teleporting a steam tank army into the back of an enemy base on level 9.
Amulet of Recalls doesnt transfer between levels. It might actually be possible to use just one ogre magi, but tbh I dont really think I will be needing it... Hmm however it might be worth investigating...
I redid chapter 8 yet again shaving off another 5 seconds:
Turns out that getting past the murlocs with just one ogre is piece of cake once you realize how the AI behaves. Because of the fact that I dont waste money on a useless ogre, I now have money for another recall amulet, which I use to pull off Artur1's recall trick. I am finally confident the level is good enough now and hopefully I can start moving on
This next level is really a pain. A lot harder than I thought it would be. It is really frustrating because there are so many things that can go wrong and it is sort of random. First there is the run to the guardians. Then killing the dreadlord before he does too much damage to your army, finally you have to assassinate the acolytes by the time you destroy the necropolis to make sure they dont construct new buildings. And all the time you have to keep your tanks shooting buildings, which is very difficult because they are so big and clunky.
I have been spending a lot of time on this chapter and this is the best I have been able to get so far:
I will try harder during the weekend.
EDIT: After spending 9 more hours running the level, without even getting close to beating this time, I am now convinced that 4:59 is a pretty good time. I am going to keep it and move on.
Awesome run so far. I have question about chapter one of undead campaign. There are Golems on the East part of the map, North from Tichondrius. One of them drop Gauntlets of Ogre Strength. Is it possible, to obtain it? I thing I saw on YT that someone obtain it, but I can't find it. I know it wouldn't be usefull for speedrun, but maybe you know the way how to get it.
What a coincidence. Today I also got the answer on this question on YT, but I posted there 6 months ago. I knew that path, but instead of attacking trees I was gathering them. Big thanks anyway.
Maybe you don't know, but if you cut down a few trees between houses, slightly lower form the place where you are finishing this chapter, you can get scroll of healing from the crate. In contrast to that, this can be useful for next chapters. You can cut down those trees by ghouls while Arthas is running to the Acolytes and eventually take the scroll by him, after finishing the chapter, when you have few seconds before cutscene appears.
Very cool indeed. What does the final time say in the end? I cant really see.
Im not really sure about the usefulness of the chapter 3 tp trick. But I'll test it out for sure when I get to that chapter. It is probably gonna take a while though since im going on vacation the next week. Also, chapter 2 is going to be really really hard i predict. I have done some initial testing and it is just a difficult chapter to speed through. The paladins are especially annoying because of their divine shield, which means that you really need to work on your timings in order to kill them efficiently.
