I know there are other VVVVVV speedruns, but I just wanted to post my own attempts. I've only tried to speedrun it a few times but I've already improved a lot. I will be updating this page with my stats as I do them. Here is the current record by Tranquilite .

1st attempt:
Time: 01:15:31
Deaths: 503

2nd attempt:
Time: 00:44:52
Deaths: 311

3rd attempt:
Time: 00:30:02
Deaths: 249

4th attempt:
Time: 31:54
Deaths: 204

Feel free to post your own times, and any tips or hints are very welcome Smiley

I am planning on doing a serious run of a long game (LittleBig Planet or Bioshock (maybe not Bioshock after seeing the current record))sometime soon if anyone's interested. (Has anyone done an LBP speedrun? I can't seem to find one.)

Just chiming in to say that Voitose is the name of my Youtube account Tongue

But yeah this game is very fun to speedrun, due to both its difficulty, while still being fair, and having very little randomness (I say very little, because only the most aggressive room strats don't work 100%).

Also as far as tips go that are not in my any% run, when running the tower, if you can kill yourself right after hitting a checkpoint, you can actually save time, because the screen will speed up to put the checkpoint you jsut hit in the center of the screen, unfortunately this trick only saves ~3/4 of a second, while the cost of failure is considerably higher.

I have an improved run in progress of Bioshock which I'm close to running out of motivation to continue with and have been looking to pass on to someone else for over a year now. Maybe you won't be interested or feel able to keep up the standard of what I've got so far, but I figured it was worth a shot. Because it's massively segmented and mostly already planned out it'd also be a good project for a beginner to take on, because massively segmented = no real skill needed at all, and if you get a little way further and run out of energy like I did the run can just go into hibernation again waiting for someone else to work on it. I've sent you a PM with some details if you're interested.
Planning, I suck at it. :-(
Awesome run dude, that game looks evil. What program do you use to record flash games with?
I used SCFH DSF and virtualdub. I've been meaning to write a tutorial of some kind showing how to set those programs up, as lots of people want to know how to record windowed mode PC games, but I'm rather busy with school this week, so I will probably get around to it eventually.
Make it so.
Slight necrobump here, thought that bmping this thread was probably better than starting a new one.

As Tranquilite seems to have pretty much every aspect of this game down, I'm playing around with the idea of the one run he hasn't claimed. Yeah, the ridiculous prospect of a 100% SS.

I've only had the game for a week or two but I'm getting pretty reasonable at it, today I attempted my first 100% SS playthough, not even necessarily trying to go that fast, and finished with a time of 00:28:47 with a hideous 92 deaths.

Most of the deaths, and a lot of the time wasted comes exactly where you would expect, the Gravitron and the Trinket that you have to die to get (reckless something is the name of the room?).

I think with a bit of practice I could begin to narrow this down to some reasonable times, being as fun as it is to play I hope I dont get bored of it. My aim is sub 20 for sunmission, if it ever gets that far!
Obscure games ftw
My best 100% time is 1:05 or so...that's an hour and 5 minutes.  Granted I've only done it twice and I died ~200 times that time-but not in most of the places you'd expect.  I had very few in the Gravitron and very few going for Prize for the Reckless (the other room you mentioned).  I also got Veni Vidi Vici pretty quickly (~20 deaths)

Veni Vidi Vici I have down now, I dont think I ever get more than 3 deaths on it now and get it first time quite often.

I think everyone has their own rooms where they die a lot to be honest, some rooms might be easy for some but tough for others. For instance, I've always found the Final Challenge to be pretty simple, whereas the Villi People and some others mess me up every time haha.

Just been messing around on the Super Gravitron too, hoping it will improve my gravitron proper. My best time so far is a semi-ok 16:50, anyone got any records to offer there?

EDIT: Although, looking at the runs on the site, I'm pretty sure that my game is running a fair amount slower than it should be, this probably makes a difference...
Obscure games ftw
Super Gravitron record: 21.60 I think, I know I got 20+ though because I have that trophy.

Yeah, everyone has their own fail sections, I personally suck at Trench Warfare and On the Waterfront, and The Voon Show, and Timeslip (or Backsliders, whichever one is in the final level)

I used to speedrun this, let's see if I have some screens left. Here we go.
My best 100% is apparently from my Youtube file of VVVVVV. 55:07 with 313 deaths. Not bad at all, now that I look at it. I should get back into playing this game.
My best any% is this:

Also not the worst, but yeah, a LOT of mistakes. 22 deaths in the Gravitron -_-

This is on the old Steam/indie version by the way, not the new version with the level editor and such. Not sure if this makes a huge difference.

Also 100% SS is not that bad I think, it should be doable in <30 minutes. That's quite short compared to most SS runs. Granted there's a lot of reasons to reset, but I might practice this some time, seems fun. I'll get back to some any% runs first this weekend. =)

@Tranquilite
You picked the worst thumbnail for your video. You really did. =P
I was playing this a couple weeks back, I don't know about my best time but my fewest deaths was 45, my fewest deaths in the gravitron was like 10. That level is hard ;p
Make it so.
I'm sure that if I got round to learning the patterns properly the gravitron would fall, it's just the concentration needed!

My copy is definitely running slow though so I need to get it on my other comp if I wanna start practicing properly I think. Current goal, complete it 100% (dont care how long) with under 20 deaths. This is gonna hurt.
Wha-hey!
My best any% time is 22:25. I'm working on improving this, hopefully it'll go down a lot more.

I actually decided to start practising this about a week ago.  My goal is to get ~18:00, and my best time so far is 19:35.  Part of the difficulty for me is that I'm a very inconsistent player.  Everyone's bad at the Gravitron, but to give an idea of how inconsistent I am, the best I did was 11 deaths, and the worst was 29.

EDIT: Got a 19:30 today.  Had 62 deaths, 25(!) were in the gravitron ¬_¬

EDIT2: I got a much better run today.  18:44.  I was way ahead of my pace through to the Warp Zone (which I take on last), More than a minute ahead in fact.  Unfortunately I choked, in there, and the final level.  I'm hoping I'm actually getting more consistent, but it was probably just a lucky run.  Still gonna bring that time down though Smiley

EDIT3: It was luck.  I'll leave it at that.

EDIT4: Quadruple edit because I don't want to double post.  Just got a 17:54 with 46 deaths, 12 of which were on the Gravitron.  I know I can do better, though, even with my current strats which may or may not be the best.

An update that is possibly worthy of a double post.

I did a 100% run, and got 25:00 flat with 93 deaths.  It's my best time, but a pretty sloppy run.  I am terrible at getting the trinkets outside of the levels, and I got the most deaths, not in the Gravitron, but on Guardian Knot (13).  I really need to practice that screen.

On the good side of things, I got the death warp out of Veni Vidi Vici, and Doing Things The Hard Way on my second try.  I'm setting a goal of 23:30 for myself for the time being.

EDIT: Just got a 24:00 with 92 deaths.  I think a lot of the time was made up from the Gravitron.  I had < 7 deaths, but on the flipside, my tower was extremely sloppy with 6 unintentional deaths.  Still, I'm making progress Smiley

EDIT2: Got a 23:37 with 80 deaths, 10 on the Gravitron.  Tons of mistakes on the Tower, and the Laboratory.  I didn't even get the cutscene skip.  When I first learned about it, I could get it every time, but now it seems like I only get it about 60% of the time.  Does anyone know how tight the window is for the death?

I did some testing with hourglass, and it turns out that it only works when you press "R" and the Action button at the same time (on the same frame). It doesn't really matter how long the "Captain!" dialogue is up, it only matters that you press the buttons simultaneously. No need to mash-mash-mash after all.

That helps out a lot.  Thanks for testing it out!

I got a run recorded tonight, and it's my best by a fairly wide margin.  I got a 22:17 100% run with 61 deaths.  I have to rewatch it to see exactly where I gained/lost time, but I remember that my Warp Zone and Final Level were terrible.  For better or worse, though, the Gravitron wasn't my worst room, Trench Warfare was (apparently).  After I finished, I thought it would be I Love You, but evidently not.

EDIT: Added in comments in the video description.  After rewatching the video, I only died 3 times in Trench Warfare.  So something's up with the death counter.  The best I can think of is it counting my mashing R as deaths in the room, despite the fact that I only died once because of it.
The most death display has always been bugged in 2.0. If you want accurate information for that part you need to close out VVVVVV and reload it. However, it's worth noting that you cannot have a room displayed as having the most deaths if you never died in the room during the current run (even if you died 100 times during practice). For example, if I die 100 times in Trench Warfare (through runs or time trials) without closing the game and I die once in that room during a run, it'll display 101 deaths in Trench Warfare as the result. If I don't die in Trench Warfare, another room would be displayed. However,  the death count for the current run is accurate at the end (the first of the two death statistics).

This bug has actually been around since 1.0.
Really? I guess I hadn't paid much attention with those versions, haha. Good to know.

Just got a 17:13 any%.  I'm still dying a lot, though.  I had 34 deaths with 8 in the Gravitron.  I hope I can get a sub 17:00 soon.

EDIT: I've got my sub 17:00 time :).  16:57, 29 deaths, but still had a crappy Gravitron with 8 deaths.  Gonna keep Pushing Onwards for lower times, though.

EDIT2: Got 16:36 tonight on stream.  26 deaths.  It had a really bad start, I died on the stop guys at the beginning Lips Sealed .  I managed to beat my previous splits for every other segment though, so that was really nice :).  I've figured out a few rooms I need to practice, but I'm doing pretty well.

Cross posting from the thread in PC games

I'm not sure if this route saves enough time to best a no death mode run, but I've found a new any% route.  I made a video of it here, but for whatever reason the audio didn't record :/.

By killing yourself as you teleport to SS1, you respawn on the ship, and can do the levels out of order.  So, by saving Violet third or fourth, and using the cutscene skip, you can skip one intermission.  Then, as I did, you can actually use the teleporter to warp half way through SS2.  I haven't timed anything at all, but I think my time of 15:26 with 33 deaths speaks for itself.

So, new PB.  15:26 with 33 deaths.

My current PB for any% (with gravitron skip). I died a lot and used many save strats, but i'm quite happy with it Smiley

EDIT: Just got a 17:00!
EDIT #2: Aaaand now I got a 16:50 (39 Deaths) Smiley
