Well, it's basically for the same reason, I made the multiplier climb high ! Green Ogre give more exp than normal ones. But I can't do this on normal they're not resilient enough ^^.
Yeah haha as Wyatt I have that beginning routed for 1.5x and better combos on any enemies so that we get level 3 on the ogre before 1st boss without losing any time. As the route improves and improves I'm sure both characters will have very specific routing for experience and combos you have to hit to make green mobs etc as valuable as possible.

How do you play on older patches though? It's possible to do an intel build at least on Wyatt, but they changed the rate at which int gives +magic so it's worse now than it was before. If I could play on old patch I could possibly route a way to abuse bow + dagger's backstab bonus plus all the bonuses you get for spells. My casual playthrough of the game was doing several thousand damage per down-ice-magic spell (the platform one), so in my casual play (lvl 20, full int wyatt with lvl 3 ice soul) would cycle through each phase of Anemone in one hit.

It actually made the fight really confusing, because I didn't really fight Anemone at all and just spent a lot of time running around killing the ferals and crystals and wondering wtf was going on. If I could play on old patch I could route that and see if it's actually faster than other builds Tongue

This game's mechanics are complicated. Testing out some ice spell numbers, to see how much soul level affects damage. Apparently alignment affects certain spells' damage outputs. Info contained shows that ice magic with neutral alignment does more damage than ice magic with evil or holy alignment.

Wyatt lvl 11:
36 attack
52 magic

Testing on test dummy in library, hitting it in the front (From the right, attacking left)

No ice soul

31 damage normal attacks

Level 1 Ice Soul (Holy alignment)

(Up) frost blade : 59 damage normal attacks (+28 above base)
(Side) frozen shard : 38 damage
(air) Arctic Javelin : 57 damage
(down) Ice Tower : 75 damage

Level 1 ice soul (Neutral alignment)

(Up) Frost blade : 63 damage (+32 above base)
(side) frozen shard : 42 damage
(air) Arctic Javelin : 65 damage
(down) Ice Tower : 85 damage

Level 1 ice soul (evil alignment, using evil bow/dagger and evil rainment armour instead of neutral weapon and armour, so numbers are a bit off)

(Up) Frost blade : 63 damage (+40 above base = Evil bow/dagger gets bonus damage for evil alignment I think)
(side) frozen shard : 38 damage
(air) Arctic Javelin : 56 damage
(down) Ice Tower : 74 damage

So having a neutral soul while casting ice spells means they do around 10-12% more damage. I assume the same is true of other spell types.


And in here is some numbers on how soul level ups scale damage. It isn't just a raw percent, each spell seems to scale differently.

Anyways, testing for how much soul level ups do in terms of spell damage:

Wyatt level 10, 34 attack, 51 magic, 13 A. ruin, 10 S. ruin

Ice Soul lvls 1/2/3 (Neutral)

(Up) Frost blade : 63/82/106 damage (from base 31 damage)
(side) frozen shard : 42/63/90 damage
(air) Arctic Javelin : 65/114/178 damage
(down) Ice Tower : 85/147/221 damage

For reference, a level 11 Wyatt with 57 attack 37 magic, 14 armour ruin 5 spell ruin (and no points in the +magic skills):

51 base attack damage

(Up) Frost blade : 72 damage (+21 above base)
(side) frozen shard : 27 damage
(air) Arctic Javelin : 40 damage
(down) Ice Tower : 53 damage

Note - Normal backstab damage is 150%, but backstab with the bow/dagger weapon is 250%
This means that the lvl 11 int Wyatt with lvl 3 ice soul would do 552 dmg backstab Ice Towers with bow/dagger, but still ~330 with greatsword. This would be more/less based on boss weaknesses.

@Onin : the void warp is known for a long time now, I've been trying to skip Magus with it unsucessfully but only tried it on other bosses today =).
Is this available on latest version? I can't replicate it.
No the clips are almost all patched in the latest version =/.

That route is pretty incredible. Shame those two sequence breaks in the sewer are so punishing when you fail em.

According to some research we made on the last version, the run might be reproduceable on version 1.00.21. So I will lead further investigation on that point so everyone could run the game now !
And then Steam updated the game to 1.00.22 and I can't get either the void clip or the decoy warp to work anymore.

Yeah the recent work got kinda ruined but anyway ! There still is the old version. There is only one glitch left now, which is Magus Skip.
Ugh.

Did they change anything else between 1.00.21 and 1.00.22? Because the differences between .20 and .21 are pretty impactful*, so if they keep patching it it'll be really hard to run consistently.

AHHH THIS GAME IS CONFUSING WHYYYYYY

Wyatt's air power attack gives a 2x experience multiplier on kill. Not sure if there's an overkill experience bonus or where that's coming from OR if it stacks with normal combo mults, but...

Also, in .21 soldiers have a base exp value of 5 exp, but seem to have a base of 4 exp for combo bonuses, I.E. a 1.5x combo gives 6 exp, a 2x combo gives 8 etc.

This stresses me out, too many mysteries.

Here's what you need to do :

DON'T DO THIS IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY OWN A COPY OF THE GAME, please support the developpers and do not spread this link in order to give a free copy to your friends, this game needed years of work to be made and spreading free versions of the game is a selfish and horrible lack of respect to the dev.
And anyway, the game will lack some crucial elements and won't be playable if you don't already own it.

1- Copy your Valdis Story folder (from your Steam, or GOG, or whatever folders)

2- Download the archive with the two files in it.

3- Replace Valdis_Story_AC.exe and data.win in your copied folder by the files I sent to you

4- The new Valdis_Story_AC.exe will start Valdis Story 1.0.0.20 =).

Are there any runs for 1.00.22 planned or do the runners of this game prefer the routes created for the old versions rather than having to come up with new routes? It'd be understandable if you guys would rather play with what you're familiar with, and I'd wager you'd have more fun playing with the glitches than without, but I'd like to see new content in the runs as it is released in the game.
It's not about playing with what I'm familiar with, it's that every strat I find is patched again and again. This is stupid to work on a route for 2 weeks and see it patched in 3 days.  But anyway there are more glitchless runners than glitch runners in Valdis Story, try checking Moonizz's stream he runs glitchless .22 wyatt.
Just bought this game yesterday, I was so proud when I figured out a way to skip Abandoned Gardens completely...until I found out that the game is even more broken than I thought and you don't even go in that direction!

In any case, I like what's been done so far, keep it up!  You should make a KB article for the game, it would help to have a central repo of all the information for running the game (unless something of that sort already exists).

And now to go and actually beat the game.
