Most of you probably know about the SDA Get-Together planned around Magfest in US. If you're American you are probably happy because of that, since who the hell cares about Europe, seriously.
But for those of you in Europe, this is an unfortunate set of events. Plane tickets to US cost, and it would be good to come back as well, which makes the price sky-rocket. Because of that, the European folk has decided that a different 'gathering' somewhere in Europe is in order. Because it is pretty much central to most European speedrunners, we have decided to go to Copenhagen, from where Thomas Stubgaard reigns over the Nightmare 100% tables on QuakeSDA. Copenhagen is close enough to Scandinavians, and to people from Middle Europe and UK. Also, we can invade Stub's house and make Quake coop demos!
As for the date of the speedcon, it isn't chosen yet. We thought about either start/middle February or something as late as July. The period between those is likely to coincide with other things for some people (school, uni, work, etc.), although that doesn't mean we won't meet up at that time either. Why February? It's not ages away, and most people so far involved with the speedcon should be able to participate. However, the prices of tickets might get higher soon, so it'd be good to decide fast if we want the speedcon to take place during February. Why July? Almost everyone is pretty much sure to be able to participate, the prices of tickets will still be low for a while, and... there are a few Metallica concerts in Copenhagen at the time - quite a bit of SDA folk likes metal and hence would love to go. How long would the speedcon take? Probably around 2-3 days, but it's still something to talk about.
Anyone who wants to go, tell me about that in the thread. Also say if you agree on February/July, and if not - when you would like the speedcon to take place. All the suggestions/opinions go here as well. Having a properly operating and resistant liver is preferred, but not required ;). Oh, if you are from America and have enough money to travel here, you can come over too!
3rd November update: Most people seem to agree July is a more feasible option, so it's likely the speecon will happen around then. It'll probably take 3 days or so.
