I don't know if this is true or not, but during the ASRIEL lost soul portions, eating the butterscotch pie while saving ASGORE and TORIEL instantly saves them.
If this is true, how much time would this add to the asgore fight (not eating the pie there), and how much time would it save on the asriel fight?

Saves 2 cycles on the Asriel part ~ 10 seconds.

http://www.twitch.tv/th3hatt3r/v/21373800 Found something very goofy. I think it may save about a few seconds since it forces Papyrus to move in a radical way.
No one submitted Undertale to AGDQ? Sadfaces.

Unfortunately so, Onin. We've all here pretty much agreed that we'd leave AGDQ alone out of respect for Toby. I'm planning on submitting to RPGLB (if I can go) and SGDQ, however.

Seems like activating the switch from the side does this? Or maybe a diagonal down+right movement. I'll test this more later.

1. Respect for Toby.
2. Genocide, while the fastest, is also the exact opposite of how the game was intended to be played, which is pretty much respect for Toby.
3. Neutral is just Genocide but you skip over everything in Hotland to fight Asgore and Flowey.
4. Genocide and Neutral, due to having to deal with encounter rates just to play through, are unreliable pools of RNG that amount to an uncertainty of at least 4% that isn't based on skill.
5. True Pacifist is long and would spoil all of the significant appeal of the game (which goes back to respect for Toby). You'd sooner have people not buy it because they already know everything that's inside and thus have gotten all that's appealing to them from the game than people buying it because it's a good game.
I don't think those points are much of an issue in January next year. I could agree with not wanting to 'misrepresent' the game while it's still new, but anyone that hasn't played Undertale when AGDQ actually takes place, well, that's their loss.

I don't think it's worse RNG reliance than other RPGs and even pacifist is a lot shorter than most, I'd actually put that in its favour.

But I'm not a runner. I'll just be missing it.

Toby also specifically asked us not to, at least until a year after the game's release.
You're not here.

Even if Toby in his best wishes doesn't want his game to be spoiled, they're will always be people that would never actually play Undertale and still watch others for them. Thus, spoiling themselves with a overview of the general overarching story and skip the obscure subtexts or easter eggs. Jokingly enough Flowey makes fun of these people at the end of Genocide Ruins.

For the sake of Undertale popularity and bandwagon we "should" wait til at least a year to chisel up the run into a refine gem.

New solution to Ice Puzzle. Saves 0.6 sec. on avg. compared to current route.

People in that situation would be better suited to watch a long play or a let's play, not a speedrun. A speedrun ends up spoiling late-game plot points without showing most of the content that leads up to those points and gives them their actual impact.

Should definitely wait, even aside from polishing the run. I dunno how much time exactly I'd give it, but AGDQ 2016 is definitely too soon.
I'm looking forward to learning TPE, and submitting this for RPG Limit Break 2016. I look forward to working with you guys. Btw, is there a route that's in stone yet or no? Do I have to sift through this thread for all the strats?
What I did is just watch the videos for the current records. Most of the time savers are pretty apparent if you're rather familiar with the game. I think the least immediately obvious one is Mettaton; short version is that reaching 12k ends the fight immediately on his next turn, and equipping new armors gives +1500 each.

For text mashing, you can use both z/x and enter/shift at the same time to mash even faster.

You can find the current records at speedrun.com/undertale

Can this guide be changed so that slide puzzle 3 (up) is just Left, Right, Fire?

Few more things worth mentioning:

Quote:
"In case you forgot, left, down, down, up down, left, up, up, left."
(Hotlands Steam vents)
- Left, Left(Mash C until you land), Left; opening the menu at the same frame as landing on a button prevents the button from being pressed, so you can prettymuch bypass the whole puzzle like this......and considering how often I get this just by mashing, I'm wondering if it's even frame-perfect at all.

Quote:
Slide Puzzle 5
Down, Left, Down, Left, Down, Left, Up, Left, Fire.

- Up, Right, Up, Left, Left, Down, Left, Fire. That's 1 movement faster.

Quote:
Once you see the first bit of dialogue with Sans, you can quit the game and reload to spam skip the text.

Not confirmed faster. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know this is just even(therefore not worth doing)??

Quote:
[Flowey Phase 6]

Probably worth mentioning that ACT comes out of the 3rd shot on the 8th volley of bullets.

SAVE before Asgore Asriel to heal to full.

You don't need to do this; the cutscene heals you anyway.

you can 2-cycle Undyne. There's some extra dialogue and you do some red attacks, but it's still about 6 seconds faster, even with awful menuing.
You need to pick up at least 1 more healing item from somewhere but iirc we have loads of spare gold now so meh. Bisicle from Snowdin seems like a good idea since you can save half as a safety strat for Asgore as well, if you let yourself drop to 5 then heal to 16. Though you're then more likely to die to Undyne. eh. Trade-offs.

Remembered something that I forgot
Mylexsi that's a amazing time testing. I know a perfect heal item for this then. Right before the Dummy! fight. they're 2 astro-food from the cooler. I usually use them as a safety item when doing the Undyne fight since the 3rd cycle is very brutal. getting the bisicle would only be 1 second more since we use the snowdin shop for manly bandana anyway.

This was posted to the Undertale subreddit earlier. Potential huge time save?

I just tried this out, you can walk down to the trigger to the next area, skipping the first phase of the fight. In the next area, Undyne will behave as if she just attacked you, so attacks will also be easier. Seems to cut a significant chunk off the fight.

ay guys, I updated the notes for the guide to anything I saw in here -- they should be accurate/up to date on the new strats. If I'm missing anything feel free to shoot me a tweet (@bassline_crisis) or message on here!

Doesn't skip any portion of the fight. All it does is make it so you do not have to deal with her jumping animation to trigger the first fight and one more flee encounter(Standard encounter means you get 4 battle screens, now it is 3). You still have to deal with her first set of attacks.

You are right, I worded my post badly, thanks for the clarification.

So I want to start learning AYC now that I'm more comfortable with TPE. Is there a good guide somewhere for quick reference of what to do for each monster? I'm pretty worried that I'll miss something so it'd be very helpful to have, otherwise I guess I can always browse the wiki and current records and make notes.

Check Tuxwizzle's stream, I think he has a quick guide in his description.

Can't see anything unless you mean the link to his YouTube video. Maybe it was removed or on someone else's stream?
