Denial of Service goodness!!!
I am having trouble viewing some of the runs - primarily due to my lack of codec knowledge. Would it be possible for anyone to post a link with KNOWN working codecs?

I prefer Media player classic if that helps!

I have also run through most of the other posts - but after reinstalling DivX 6 (or so) and runningin MPC - still no dice. The sound is there but no video. VPL displays video, albeit chuggy (refresh image every 8 seconds!) but it has sound.

Any insight into this would be tops.

need to specify what video you are trying to play.

for the vast majority of the videos, divx for mpc or vlc (for h.264) will work.

sorry about that - Im trying to play the insane quality version of the RE4 speedrun. non infinite weapons version.

Hope that helps.
the recent one? need to use either quicktime or vlc. there are other ways, one of which even lets you play it in mpc, but i'm not very good at giving directions for those, so someone else will have to help (psst snow, copy and paste into the kb).

Well, it's like nate has said, the VLC Player is your best bet. Another one is to use libavcodec, which is available in Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). However, codec packs can get you in a lot of trouble and into "codec hell", which happens if you have the same codec installed twice. So it's not a good option.
Finally, you could try to hunt down CoreAVC. It is one of the best codecs, with probably the highest decoding speed and lowest memory usage. You can play vids in all players after installing it. However, the codec is not free, albeit from a public alpha version 0.0.0.4 if i'm not mistaken. And that one is hard to find.
You decide.

I've been to that dark codec ridden place *shuders at the memory*... will sample CoreAVC for quality.

Will report result:

The problem is that CoreAVC isn't free, so the only thing I could do is mention it and people would have to get it on their own somehow.

....

If anyone wants CoreAVC and TCPMP, just pm me. I can hook you up with a guy who has it...

still needs to be in there.
