I am from the north anyways, i know this might not sound like a decent game to offer but i really wouldn't mind offering Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for your marathon in 2015, im very much excited about the prospect of there being a speedrunning event held in the UK and i think it would be a good opportunity to show off some of our speedrunning talent Cheesy
Hey all,

First of all I'd like to say that this is a really good idea and I think the UK has a lot of speedrunning talent and enuthiasts that it'd be a really good idea to host an event or some sort in the UK, as such I've been looking into this for a few months now, I was hoping to finish all of the planning before I made my own post but however here's what I was thinking

Location:
London, now while I know London is very expensive it also has the best mass-transport system, a lot of a tourist attractions as well as nearby airports for ease of access, that being said if the cost/organisational strains prove too much a city like Portsmouth would be the next best thing, preferably a little close, but something similar all the time

Time:
Autumn, this is because after ESA there's really not that much happening until AGDQ the following year (unless I've missed a big event or got my timing wrong?) this means that in this time people are less likely to get saturated on events and are more likely to tune in. By Autumn I mean anywhere from August - October, after that we get into Winter and people don't like travelling in Winter

Selling points:
I have a lot of other plans and idea for teams speedrunning against each other, baton races where one player has to hand a controller or console over to the other player to continue, first team to finish wins etc etc, "races" being casted by people other than the players, this would allow for an ease of communication and overall better coverage. I would open it up to the public more, I would like to host an evening party, which would take place in an adjacent room or and evening after the day's streaming has finished, I know the idea of a 24h stream is an awesome idea but unless you have a host of runners all willing to stay up for hundreds of hours it's difficult to pull off, so instead we shut down for the day and host events in the evening, all of which the public can attend and will be hosted under the event's banner.

Anyway thanks for reading, I'm always willing to help and I really think I can bring a lot to the table, I've hosted a lot of similar events and I have some connections and influence with companies who might be willing to sponsor and or contribute or advertise the event, thanks again for reading

Thing is it'll be difficult if we organise it somewhere else especially miles away up in the midlands. Most events and such are held at London or up North which is never fair for us Southerners so it's only fair. It's not difficult to get here. You can get coaches for £20 on some occasions and the connections here are great. EGGS will be held in Portsmouth at Easter time 2015. Dates will be decided closer to the time if anyone has any ideas or preferences then let me know. We plan on having a sleeping area at the event which will be easier and cheaper for everyone but I'll also look into the hotels down the road.

I'm a Yank myself, but I would watch the hell out of a British marathon if it meant more C64/Amiga/Spectrum runs. You could easily use the fact that you'd be running things like Turrican, Jet Set Willy, and Ultima as a selling point - though admittedly I'm assuming people do run them, which may or may not be the case.

Thank you Smiley

So I already have one game for the marathon. I know its pretty early but if anyone is interested in running a game let me know Smiley obviously I won't create a schedule yet. I'm not sure how long the event will last although I would like 5 days main and 2 bonus possibly but it really depends on how many people run considering its a 24 hour thing unless they are long games.
Portsmouth is very easy accessible for me, I don't live too far away, I'd definitely apply to come and watch. Tongue
This would be such a good thing for me and the UK scene.
1) The venue is in Portsmouth, I live in Bristol, hence the journey will be quite short and not that expensive
2) I wouldn't have to travel to America for ADGQ, if I ever went to one.
3) It would attract the UK scene of speed running to many types of people
4) I would donate, most likely, and it would promote games which not many people know about
5) You can take ideas from AGDQ runs, for example: donation incentives and races
6) It would help me as it would promote the games I speed run, being Rayman 3 and Rayman 2.
Keep me up to date with any more progress ^_^

Great points especially Rayman! You speedrun it?! Awesome! Cheesy

As I say it's still super early days. I thought I'd post on here to see if people would actually be interested or not. I'm still waiting to hear back from the venue. I realised the other week that we miss out a lot on gaming events in the UK. Especially in the South since any and all events tend to be in London or up North which isn't really fair. >.< Plus not everyone can afford to go to Europe or America which many have mentioned. You can just jump on a National Express or Mega Bus coach for £10-£50 return. Much better than a £100-£500 flight plus any buses and coaches before or after Tongue

I'm seriously so hype for this. :3
FPS / RPG Runner
I'm from Manchester and have a few ties with some devs who organise events at Media City UK, I could try and ask them for some help?
Oh really? What do they do exactly?
FPS / RPG Runner
They organise dev events for the games industry etc, There are a few places in Manchester that have amazing venues, but that might be me being a little bias, so it was just an idea Cheesy
Oh I see. That's pretty cool! Do they just do stuff in Manchester/North or would they help in the South?
FPS / RPG Runner
They do it all over the UK! Cheesy
Awesome! I'll look into them Cheesy

Just wanna say that this is a pretty cool idea and great alternative to AGDQ or ESA for this part of the world.

I'd happily fly from Ireland as a spectator or a runner. If you are just gauging interest.
Awesome :3 what would you run? Smiley
I'd be definitely attending if I could. But I don't really have a game I could run, I am more of a steam-based person, I prefer to make graphics, and maintain things, so if there's a spot for me to like maintain the stream, or even do graphics for the event, hit me up on Skype. You've got me on it Smiley
I'll more than likely attend. Looking forward to it Smiley
WOO! Cereth Cheesy Will you attend as a spectator or runner? Smiley
We'll see, depends what I'm running (if anything) when the time comes
Well you'll be welcome to run anything. I think people want FF but they might be trolling... either way it's welcome Tongue
Hey, this sounds like an awesome idea. I hope it happens. Probably go to spectate/maybe run if I play a game that isn't SM64. Kappa

MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Cheesy
