My feelings on The Demon Rush
Are you ready to prove your manhood? (or womanhood, I don't discriminate) Are you curious about the official SDA game? *

Yes, we're going to have a TSS tournament at the 4-H Center the night before the marathon, and unlike the last tournament, it will actually finish!

The largest Twinkle Star Sprites tournament I've heard of had 28 people, and we have around 50 people coming to the 4-H Center, so let's try to get the world record for largest Twinkle Star Sprites tournament in history.

What is Twinkle Star Sprites?

Twinkle Star Sprites is one of the few games in the VS. shmup genre, a genre that consists of less than 10 games. It's hard to describe, but here's a short description anyway.

The game is played side-by-side, and competition is based off players killing waves of enemies in a puzzle-like fashion to send bullets to attack your opponent.

That doesn't really sum up the game very well, so if you want to read some general info about the game or look at some screenshots, go here

BTW, the Touhou vs. shmup (Phantasmagoria of Flower View) came out after TSS, so don't say TSS copied Touhou. Angry PoFV is also not as good as TSS. Tongue

The rules (don't worry, this won't be long)

-Mevious and Memory are banned, every other character is allowed.

-This tournament is double elimination.

-All matches except for finals will be 2 out of 3 games. Finals will be 3 out of 5, winner has set advantage.(loser has to win two 3 out of 5 sets)

-Winner of the first match has to stick with his/her character, loser is allowed to pick a different character.

-No turbo fire.

If you want to study up or practice, then...

The game is a Neo Geo game, Mame and Final Burn Alpha both do a good job of emulating the game. I won't tell you how to get the rom or anything, but it's honestly not hard. If you want to play online come to #sda on irc.metroid2002.com (or dl.speeddemosarchive.com).

http://www.gamefaqs.com/neo/565709-twinkle-star-sprites/faqs/56584 - This is an FAQ I wrote for the game. A couple of things are a bit off, like some of my character assessments, but it should still be good.

PJ is playing.  But you knew that already apparently.
This game looks awesome. I'd be willing to give it a shot even though I can't understand anything that's going on.

I cannot follow this game at all.  But it'll be a blast to try anyways.  ^_^
Exoray
Interesting, for practice we are directed to videos and screenshots but we can't try out the game beforehand?
Sounds cozy, I'm in!
Everybody's favorite monster
Sure, i'm in.
The Speedrunning Teacher
Not to sound like I'm asking too much (especially right before the marathon), but will this be streamed for those of us who would like to see this and won't be at the marathon (like me)?
We all scream for Eyes Cream
Guess I'll join in.

Bwahahaha... there WILL be domination!
DO WANT...  maybe next year, since i'm not attending, though

Also, iirc there are some version differences between systems, so what system would you guys be playing on?

EDIT: there are two head-to-head shmups that were interesting to me: Senko no Ronde (mecha battle, match from a tourny here), and Neo Aquarium, where you play as aquatic crustaceans  (crabs, lobsters, and stuff) which I recommend checking out if you have time for it.
1-Up!
I'll be gunning for last place.  Oh ho.
$15 per rant/allegory
Sure, why not. I'll give it a go.

I played DoDonPachi like, 2 years ago so I think I'm more than qualified to try this too.

I won't come last. That's a promise.

Moooh: Sorry, I forgot to mention how you can play it. You can emulate the game on Mame or any other emulator that plays Neo Geo games (like Final Burn Alpha), and you can play the game online, just hit me up on #sda. I know you can play it on GGPO with some savestate trick. If anyone doesn't want to use IRC, I guess they can just PM me. I added a bit of info to the first post.

Zyre: Maybe.

Aitamen: I've played Senko no Ronde. I'm sure it's a very good game, but it's really confusing for beginners and has a high learning curve. I've never heard of Neo Aquarium, I guess I should try that out.

So what system are we playing this on? I can't play on controller anymore and only have an x360 stick, so if its on computer thats fine, but if its on ps2 then :-(.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
We can do it on both ps2 and computer. We don't have to limit ourselves to one setup.
