I don't know how useful it would be to get out in to Hyrule Field early. You probably still have to get the shadow item (Or whatever it's called, can't recall) from the spirit after beating the Forest Temple.

That said, Fierce's glitch probably does help, since once you turn into a wolf, you get a sword that way no matter what. The trick will be killing those monkeys.

Speed is the key.
I've been trying to replicate the glitch on the gate leading to hyrule field for a few hours, but no success. I got epona into a few promising positions in front of the gate but that's about it.

He's back!
Fierce found that glitch I was talking about earlier, but I do it in a much more relicatble way.  Tongue

I tried that the first time too before i found the switch for the fan, but failed miserably.

...and who the hell is that??

They e-mailed me it...
Well, I don't see how thats faster. Unless you can get it perfect in one try.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
That fan trick would probably only save time with a control stick so you could aim quickly.

Yeah that will probably kill most runs of that dungeon if it's attempted.
About the game speed on 50mhz/60mhz: new games  (since early 2005 or so) don't have their speeds affected from playing in 50 mhz mode. This game, Devil May Cry 3 and Killer7, for example, don't have their game speeds affected playing in 50 mhz but the 'downside' is that the frame rate is sloppier. I'll take sloppier frame rate+same speed over smoother frame rate+slower speed any day! We still have to put up with the smaller resolution and black bars, but I don't care as long as we're on equal ground with NTSC players, know what I mean?

I don't know about multi-format games (like the Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Trilogy games), though.
*sigh* People are still asserting that the stick is a faster aim...  What you mean to say is that you are better with the stick because you've been using it for years instead of weeks, but if you really break down the theory, the Wii Remote is infinitely faster than the stick(I mean that in terms of the number infinity).  It remembers where you are aiming, and that makes it take literally zero time to aim(in theory).  In terms of that puzzle, you would be aiming at a certain spot on the screen, run over to where you need to go, press B twice(to pull out and instantly use the double clawshot), aim to where the next target will be while you are in the air, and then upon climbing on top of the fan double tap B again.  You just repeat this until you get to the other side.  I won't claim to have the skill to do it(or even anything close), but it's obvious that the theory makes it faster.  Lag is 100% absorbed while you are doing the animation to cross the pit too so that argument is invalid.  I don't think we'll ever be quite that fast at it, but we'll certainly pass up the physical limits of stick aiming as we get better, and how good we are now is a ridiculous thing to assess the potential on since we've had sticks for years and years and the pointer for about a month.  I'm done arguing for the virtues of the Wii Remote since if I haven't convinced you now I won't until the results prove themselves, but I don't see how in theory having to move a cursor across the screen during time which you could be doing other things is faster, no matter how fast you can move it(by principle of zero being less than all positive numbers).

I tried to cross the room that way the first time I played too, but I couldn't make it past the third fan.  I figured that it wasn't possible to make it any farther.  That's almost certainly going to be a timesaver since you can just savewarp right after getting the Boss Key, and you can clawshot down levels without triggering death anyway.  The good news is that if we're doing segmented(which would be the wise way to start on this) that this would be at the very start of a segment so you could optimize the clawshotting really well.

1) Save/Quitting would not be faster.  You warp back to start of dungeon.  The boss key is RIGHT THERE above the room that leads to the boss path.
2) Activating the fan would be faster (you can skip the activation cut scene) than the way in the video.

It's simply a nice thing to see - not doing what Nintendo intended.
Puff, puff, pass
Yeha, I'ma member. 8)

Thats a pretty cool video, I don't know if it'd be any faster though 'cause the room right above that one (where you gotta lower yourself with the clawshot to activate the switch) is a room I'm pretty sure you have to go to.

So dropping down and then going through the fans like that wouldn't make sense in a speedrun... Unless you never have to go up into that room in the first place.

Gate leading to Hyrule field = still a bitch.

The fused shadow? I dunno about that, in Ocarina you didn't need all the medallions, who is to say this isn't the same, but as soon as we get past the damn gate we can find out.  Tongue

Oh, and I personally prefer the GCN controlls, but come on people, its quite obvious aiming in the Wii version is not only a lot faster, its a lot easier. How is it faster to manually move the item with a joystick rather than point and push a button?

It's not only about needing the shadow, it's about potential items early.

And yea, wii remote is faster for aiming by a longshot. By the time I got to Sky Temple I was a bow and clawshot pro. It's easy. Accuracy isn't hard at all.

Regardless of which version I play it won't make a difference in my performance.
Of course each is going to have advantages over the other but that's why there in seperate categories.

Hmm. I might get this Monday or Tuesday  Roll Eyes

:-/ That trick you were talking about earlier isn't possible. You need epona for the trick and when you try to get Epona Colin won't let you.

Oh well  Tongue

EDIT: I'm never noticed  Cry

There's a reason for that...A true speedrunner would make an epona entirely out of rocks before making such comments.

Sweet... Tongue

I didn't think it would be so easy.
Anyway I'm fooling around in the forest temple so I'll try to find something.

Cool nice to see you can use rocks as a epona epona Smiley
Now you can carry her anywhere you want Grin
Puff, puff, pass
Heh, nice work with the rocks. So in theory we could possible do the same thing to get past the gate into Hyrule field, have you tried that?

This one?

It should be noted if you do the epona rock thing that you get to keep the wooden sword.
Speed is the key.

Awesome.

I've found a small time saver in the forest temple during my gcn version playthrough. Probably saves about 5-10 seconds and can easily be done on your first try with a little practice.
