Forgot about replying to a post (#200) with a video of such a thing? Wink  It's quite a trip to do that.  With the number of experienced and determined individuals studying this game, many things will be "discovered" by more than one person.  Someone on NeoGAF also (accidently) figured out how to get the boss key in LT without doing the 2nd water room.

No, you just assumed I responded to you, when I responded to Fluffy.  I actually didnt' watch your videos because I can't watch DivX encoded videos at work, but I can watch YouTube/Google Video/embedded Flash.

I "did" the trick I said above on November 11th, 2006.  Not that hard to "figure out", but I'm quite confident I was the first to do it at SDA, I just didn't really think it was something "special" to mention until people got serious about a run and I wanted to give as much as I could recall.

If you watch my visual guide, there's a number of nice tricks I used that were very obvious to me, I didn't even bother to begin trying true sequence breaks - you guys kinda rushed into that (I'm all about beating the game and memorizing it before I attempt anything like a speedrun, heh).
I'm not THAT bad.

Damn it, I can't believe the boots glitch doesn't work. As soon as I got to Goron mines i was like YES, followed by AW FUCK!

Anyway I tried it several times and no luck, maybe I just wasn't doing it right, although I don't see how I could screw up such an easy trick.

>_> It doesn't work on the GCN version.

for this being my last Ocarina of Time run

Then you had the old 100 page topic plus a couple segments...

As such, I am officially retiring from performing official speedruns.  I will continue to do visual guides for my site, but I will no longer be formally trying to "speedrun" any title for a World Record for display purposes.

No.  That's my standard practice for when I did speedruns of newer games (FSA, TMC).

Just explaining my logic.

Aw shit, it's fixed in the PAL and Japanese Wii versions, according to my site's readers...

Looks like American Wii version may be best option for speedrun, though I wouldn't be surprised if next shipments have this bug fixed.

Well, the iron boots glitch works in the european Wii version. At least for me, though.
No the Quail is not riding the Q
Well I managed to get passed the first gate in the game...
Video

The Faron Providence is no different then if you got there when you were suppose to. In other words Talo and the monkey are in the cage even though Talo never went into the woods. Now if you can get past the Hyrule Field fence...
I should be able to make some more indepth trick videos tommorow.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
Most interesting.  Perhaps we could skip forward in the opening of the game.  Can you get Talo out of the cage without a sword?

You can, using the enemy's swings. But after that, Talo won't move till they're killed  Sad
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.

Awesome. The part where Link leaves for Hyrule Castle comes right after you save Talo, right?
How could you give the kids a wooden sword if you don't have one yet?  Will it give a sword you don't have or might it hang the game?

Also, in the beginning, could you maybe sequence break a little by just running over to do that trick right after getting the wooden sword(skipping shooting the targets with the slingshot and showing off your 1337 swordsman skills to the kids)?  Also, to be clear, that works on the Wii version as well, right?

If you can break the cage without a sword(I don't know if it's possible; I know the lanturn doesn't burn it), that would let you skip a lot of nonsense.  That does raise the question of how things could turn out with skipping the fishing rod and the reekfish.  I am not sure if you actually have to get the reekfish scent, and if you do, I'm not sure if getting the upgrade to the rod will automatically grant you the rod if you don't have it.  I also think you might need the slingshot to get through the Forest Temple.  If I'm right about that, then basically everything at the beginning it seemed like we might be able to skip remains unskippable(showing off to the kids remains the major gain).

WOW, you can bypass that gate so easily Shocked

What nintendo think about those glitch? In TWW you can forget all acute angles because TWW is so well made it doesn't have much weaknes. If that kind of trick work on TP where that will lead, does this game become next OoT or something Roll Eyes
Heh, it seems TSA's ego is also prominent on this board aswell.

Anywho, I don't think there really would be a point to getting into Hyrule field this early. Since the Twilight appears right after the bridge that connects Ordon to Faron. You'd miss everything from meeting Midna and Zelda, to not getting the Sword shield and hero's clothes. That also seemed very easy to do, so you'd probably have no trouble with the other fence blocking the way to Hyrule field.

Its cool if we can get out there, just so we can fool around and go to places without the sword and heros clothes, but I don't really see the significance in going out to Hyrule so early in the game for a speed run.

Or who knows, maybe you could run all the way to kakariko, cross the eldin bridge and go into that Twilight and the game would just continue on... But you'd need to find bombs some how.

Great work, but I see this being more useful when we are able to brake the game like OOT. Until then, lets see if we can do it on the Wii version too.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Works on the Wii version, tested a bit earlier.

Eh, using the analog stick for the Wii version takes away probably the Wii version's strongest point in some fans' eyes - the Wii Remote aiming.  The other "strength" is the sword combat - quickspin is done with shaking a controller which requires no skill, and sword swinging can be done in "any" direction and in multiple forms of movement, as opposed to pressing "down" on a button with pressure.

But, for some reason, even with analog aiming on Wii, I find it easier to aim with the GCN stick because I am holding with two hands and it is sturdier.  Freehanded I am just too jittery.

To poster safsd - how was clarifying something perpetuating one's ego?  Somebody clearly tried to point out something that was incorrect to imply I "overlooked" something, when it wasn't the case.

That's not ego.  Trolling is also not allowed here, just like other boards.

If not then PAL version have different time and it have different time anyway because it's slower Smiley

Is it proven, that the PAL version runs slower ?
Did somebody compare the 50 and the 60 hz mode of the PAL-Version ?
Speed is the key.
I can confirm that the iron boots glitch works fine on the wii PAL version of TP. At least on mine.

I'll check in a few minutes Cheesy

About the iron boots glitch: It works for me (Wii version, that is. I'll get the GCN version tomorrow).
Pretty neat Smiley

I think I'll run through the game soon, just for a test if I could make it in 10 hours or less by skipping all the text and cutscenes and stuff. Smiley

EDIT: 50Hz looks just the same as 60 Hz to me. No slowdowns. At least no noticable slowdowns compared to 60 Hz.

That is very good thing to hear Yautja Grin
So Wii PAL TP version is same thing as a NTSC Wii version, right?

Is that true TP will now have four run categories?
1. Wii NTSC version
2. Wii PAL version
3. NGC NTSC version
4. NGC PAL version

In wii version that run will use that iron boots glitch and gamecube version run doesn't use it. Or is wii and gamecube TP run same thing in sda or not?

From what we know right now there would be three categories:

1. Wii
2. GCN NTSC
3. GCN PAL

And of course multiply that with 2 if you want to count the 100% runs Wink

Oh and btw: The Wii and GC versions of the game should be treated as the same games but with significant differences (which are for the most: aiming and the mirrorin of the whole world in the GC version compared to the Wii version)

EDIT: Question:
Does the game count the time when you hit the HOME button for pausing the game? I'm too lazy to test that right now ^^"
I'm not THAT bad.
>_> A sequence break.

From now on I'm listening to you. Anyways I'll go try that glitch soon Tongue

why do you differ between those two ?

PAL version is little bit slower than NTSC version that's why. But if I'm right if you do speedrun with in game time you can get same time on PAL version, right?

Which was my initial question - is this proven ?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Well I'm 90% sure time's counted when you pause the game. I also think it's counted when you hit HOME, can't check this now though.
torch slug since 2006
On all GCN games i think NTSC and PAL are the same fast, so Wii will probaly be too.. BTW Yautja, we orderd from same-place did you get TP the day it comed out?
