Zelda Scientist®
I agree w/ BP and TSA even, who both agree that when you play a game for the first time or even a 2nd or 3rd time, you take it at its standard speed. I like reading books, and I am a fast reader, but when it comes to books I enjoy, my reading speeds vary according to the situations. Frantic situations are read faster and more quickly, whereas slower exploration etc, I read at a normal (or even slightly slower) pace. I read books and play games at a rate and speed in which I can become part of the game and where my playing best supports the progression of the storyline. So, I don't skip things, I do most extra quests unless they are trivial and for sake of time and the overall importance of the quest they are deemed unimportant. I fight all the side battles I run into (unless I don't need to level and I can dodge them on the map). And I don't look for glitches, etc. Mainly because I buy games to appreciate them. There are tons of people that I talk to about OoT speedruns and they adopt an attitude that it is dumb because you don't enjoy the game. For me I'd say I played it many, many times doing nigh everything and killing Ganon. I have appreciated it alot, so I don't mind glitching it now because that is a new way that I can enjoy it as if it were new. Mainly though, the 1st time I see an excellent movie or read an excellent book or play an excellent game, leaves me w/ a feeling of awe that I can't justify removing. Normally, if it is the best thing I have ever seen, I usually feel a little sad because it is the only time I will get to see it w/ fresh eyes. But that's just me.

If somebody found a glitch where in the opening village you could glitch yourself to the end of the game and beat it, would you do it off the 1st play? I wouldn't, why did they even make the game scaled in this way, or make it so long? The epic proportions give heed to an epic game. What is epic about beating something in 5 seconds? You didn't really play the game... yet. (Note this refers only to situations where those who accomplished this haven't even explored the rest of the game, and doesn't apply to speedruns in general since most people have a playhistory w/ what they play, even if it is only 1 or 2 completions from a game they played many years prior).
Zelda Rulez!
I agree with acryte. I will take my time to play this game and i will enjoy about this much as a can Grin

sad thing is that I need wait almost whole month for TP and wii, so I don't want to hear any spoilers or glitches what peoples have found Tongue
The first post will not have unlabeled spoilers until we're all ready. I can't speak for anyone else posting in this topic, though.

Speed is the key.
I'd probably like to play this game normally (exploring, etc.), but I don't think I'll be able to. I've tried with a couple of games I already own but I always end up trying to find ways to do things faster, sequence breaking, and so on.

Just now I watched some gameplay videos from TP on YouTube and I couldn't help but speculating in possible ways to skip puzzles.

It's almost annoying. :-/
secret of mana master.
so this game is not out yet right....?

i know the wii is out though.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I have the game now, and I must say it's awesome.  Haven't noticed any possible breaks yet, but if I see anything, I'll post it.
Bah I got screwed over really bad last night.
Got the game but they cheated me out of my Wii.
Guess ill get one this friday with the next shipment.

Oh you have the game but not the system also?
!!!
I got my Wii and TP this morning after work. I'm a few hours in and  this game doesn't seem very breakable. The closest thing to a glitch I've found is a scalable wall that you can't quite climb all the way and shouldn't be able to grab on to to begin with outside the tree house which is completely useless. I'm sure in 3 months there'll be a 100 page list of breaks in this game though. It is Zelda after all.  Tongue
Currently needing ideas on games to speedrun
Yeah, I grabbed it last night at midnight launch and put a couple of hours into it. It seems pretty solid, although I'm not really looking for any right now. After I finish the game through a couple of times I'd love to poke around and see if I can find anything.

Zelda Rulez!
Do you guys think we can break this game? It have almost same game engine than TWW. I want to hear what glitches you guys have found but I don't want to hear any spoilers, ok?

something or another
I haven't been specifically looking for breaks or glitches (playing with a friend down the hall on his Wii), but so far nothing looks to be too breakable.

-SEMI-spoilers (nothing you shouldn't already know)-
Wolf mechanics will probably be the least breakable given the complete lack of anything but a lunge, as well as the fact that you're so powerless that to get most places you have to rely on Midna anyway.  Haven't found bombs or any of the big ticket stuff yet.  Hell, 4 hours in and we're still on 3 hearts!

-SPOILERS-
WHAT THE HELL is with all the techish stuff!?  I feel like Zelda met Tron or something.  I'm so confused.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I think I might have found something in the Forest Temple, but I couldn't get it to work.  Even if it does, it may not do anything.

So, apparently word has leaked out that TSA's "real" first-completion time was just over 30 hours, with his earlier figure of 50+ hours inflated with minigame/sidequest time so as not to disappoint fans...

I suspected something was up because one of my friends is easily on track to beat TSA's original quoted figure, and he's not that spectacular at puzzle solving (as in, he gets stuck in dungeons and goes around in circles).

Existence as you know it is over
What was TSA's "real" first-completion time for OoT? If it was 15 hrs, then (2.5/15) x 30 = 5 hrs for TP speedrun

Speed is the key.
Does anyone know what the damage output of the spin attack is? Does it have the same damage as a normal slash/stab or does it equal a jump attack?

It seems that you can hit some bosses at least 3 times with a single spin attack so I see why they put a cooldown on it (plus, they have probably watched TSA's Bongo Bongo fight :P).

Bosses seem to be able to take quite a beating before they go down, but after checking out some boss battle videos, I'm pretty confident some of the earlier bosses can be beaten in one cycle with a spin attack + jumpslash combo (unless there is a damage cap).

God, I so need this game.

Don't we all? Tongue

At least you don't live in America, where crazed fans camp out day(s) in advance for a new console, in the freezing cold and rain. I live in an urban area, so that leaves even less choice for me had I been that desperate... *sigh*

Note the tiny update in the first post. Spoiler-free. Smiley
fuck you i wont do what you tell me

A couple things I've noticed I shouldn't be able to do. It should be noted that I see no real applicable way to use any of these, they are more or less pointless.

1. Heading into town from the tree house you can climb a piece of wall you shouldn't be able to. But you can't stay up on the ledge.

2. In the forest temple I managed to walk on air coming off one of the spinning bridges.

3. I ran off one spinning bridge to the other before they connected and was outside the railing. While I was outside the railing I was able to walk inward onto the bridge.

4. Scaling Death Mountain without Iron Boots I ran into the Goron that blocks your path and knocks you off the cliff. If you roll into the cutscene you will obtain enough ground to be knocked back one time and still remain on the cliff. Unfortunately you can't move forward and he immediately goes into another roll.

5. Unaware, I parked epona at the bottom of the death mountain trail in the path of a cut scene and when I knocked the Goron off the cliff he rolled away in the cut scene right through where epona was parked causing her to strafe-hover to the right.

6. In the forest temple I whirlwinded a bomb with the boomerang and then quickly climbed a vine wall as fast as I could and got close enough to a boulder to blow it up without having to set the return path to it for the boomerang's whirlwind carrying the bomb.

So all this is quite useless but glitches none the less I spose Tongue
What? He had it in 2005 Shocked

Havn't noticed anything that looks like you could do yet except skip this one cutscene with a monkey( i think).

Item/temple skipping/jumping looks out of the question. But then again I'm only just entering the 2nd temple.
Signboard of Hyrule
**** can backflip higher and/or farther than Link - perhaps that may be of some use somewhere.  At the highest part of the north end of KV, there is a fence and tree right next to a building.  From the very edge of the standable area there, the former can backflip onto higher ground (it is tough though).  Link cannot seem to make it - but you can get there with Link another way.  (Oh, the cheap thrill of seeing your cursor off the map.)
!!!
Found a pretty serious glitch, if you got a fairy before entering the 3rd trip to the twilight world (lake hylia). When you first approach Great Hylian Bridge and you get stranded in the middle with fire approaching on either side. If you let the fire close in on you and get up against the wall and try to move back the way you came you will die when you touch the fire but when the fairy brings you back you can be forced out of the fire back the way you came. Unfortunately they added an impassable moving wall with the fire moving from the front but for some unknown reason not the rear.

But here's the real kicker. The fire burns up all the oil on the bridge as it moves towards you but once you glitch through it after it meets the fire turns around and comes after you. Only back to the event point it was triggered.

If there's a way around that impassible wall could maybe skip some portions of the game :-/ I don't know what though. Since I just did that event the right way and saved and quit for the night.

If nothing else it's just funny to glitch through it and see the fire turn around and chase you over the oil it already burned.

I didn't think of this till now... wonder what would have happened had i left the zone and re-entered after glitching it.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Is Wii out yet? Sorry, I've been living under a rock for the last six months.  Also, are you playing it on GameCube or Wii?

And wow, we both have the same post count (14).
Oy, people... beat the game first before you speed run it. It's only been out for two days =_=

Now Red Steel on the other hand... One could do a segmented speedrun in another file while beating the game in the first file. Of course, that's just me speculating, joking, and totally running the thread off topic.

Hey, I waited inside ;P it was too cold out for that.

Tomorrow I'm going to try a few things with the bomb bugs in the forest temple to see if you can boost past anything, maybe the plants?

Either way, I bet the wolf could be breakable, I've already thought of an idea of something to try while using Midna's long jump thing.
