rofl.

So it's like this:

TP new sequence break

Skip sword + shield for midna:

1. Gate glitch
2. Save Talo and monkey
3. Head to spring, turn into Wolf
4. Lure a bokoblin over to the twilit door (walk slowly)
5. While facing the doorway area, jump attack him, then while he's on the ground stunned, jump attack once more and hopefully jump far enough to trigger the cutscene
6. Continue as normal, once back to human, go and get the wooden sword

Is that right?

Also, I may have found something new.

Ok so in lakebed temple, you can skip the "moving floor" cutscene, (the one just before the boss key). I'm not sure exactly, but I just mashed A at a certain point after clawshotting to the medallion, and Link just fell straight through the floor.:P It never moved. Don't know if that's old or not, but whatever, saves like a second or two.

I think you have to turn into a wolf first. Then after you are at the spring, then you get the bokoblin and do it. I wonder if this could be done on GCN since a lot of the triggers are way bigger. So yeah, low % would only work on Wii.

Right, forgot to include that lol. Fixed now.
should work fine on GCN unless the midna trigger is somewhere else (it's not). This trick doesn't bypass the midna trigger, it hits the cutscene trigger first.

Hmm, yeah that would make sense.

This works fine on gcn, i saw another video of someone doing it on gcn.

EDIT: could we make a swordless link run with this?
It is a cool find.  Too bad it wasn't noticed until 3 1/2 months later seeing as the vid is labeled August 18th, 2007.

Eeeeyah!
I  found a way to stay in Kakoriko with the back in time glitch. I'll just make steps on what you do for it to save you in Kakoriko.

1)Make a file all the way up to the point where you need to get the sword and sheild.
2)Go on a different file and do the back in time glitch
Do everything up until you can be Link in twilight Kakoriko
3)Save the game and make sure to save it over the file that has Wolf Link getting the Sword and Sheild
4)Reload the file that was just saved over

You should still be in twilight Kakoriko, Epona won't be there but you can exit Kakoriko now without the game freezing. But there's no way to get over the gate. I was thinking that you might be able to get into the area where you get the Zora armor and fall into the water that's Out Of Bounds and swim into the cave that leads to Lake Hylia. But you would have to damage boost with one of those Twilight bats, which is very hard to do.

Well it was somewhat of a lazy explanation but that's the gist of it.
Anyone ever notice this?

From wikipedia:
Quote:
According to statements from Nintendo, such as from translator and localization manager Bill Trinen, it took the Twilight Princess game-testers an average of 70 hours to beat the game on the first run-through. He stated that he was working on his second play-through of the game, and, even knowing what to do, where to go, and skipping cut-scenes, he had logged about 27 hours, to make it about two-thirds of the way through the temples themselves (not even accounting for any of the sidequests or time-sinks like fishing).[27] However, many who played and completed the game found this information to be inaccurate compared to the time they took, and members of the Speed Demos Archive speedrunning community have been able to complete the game in under six hours, without skipping any major gameplay components.

Would the current run in progress still count as not "skipping any major gameplay components"? What I am getting at is should a major skips category be made for this game? The Temple of Time and most of the mansion are major, I feel.

Wow. I took longer than the game testers to beat the game the first time and the second playthrough was a little faster...

I'll say it took me 50 hrs first playthrough. And that's watching every cutscene and collecting quite a few items.

But who speedruns on their first time anyway?:p

I do think that the current fastest route is worthy of a 'major skip' category though. I mean, doesn't an entire temple skip qualify as major? lol.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
not this again.

making a major skip category for TP would be like making a "no hazard shield skip" category for metroid prime 3.

low%, any%, 100%, segmented and SS are the only categories that should exist. this game already has double that due to the GC/Wii versions. OoT is an exception rather than a rule (BA is too weird atm)

BA = Any%

If a BA run is faster than manocheese's run (duh), then it will replace it.

My first playthrough on TP was a 100% with cutscenes which took 74 hours lol, which is pretty good without knowing all the requirments for a 100%.

Isn't skipping 1.5 temples major?

Segment 1

apparently I saved over my test run file. :\ Between that, the fact that I don't feel like redoing it, my being anxious to start this after around 8 months (IIRC) of trying to plan it, and that a lot of the beginning of the game is probably going to be the same regardless of any changes being made to the route in the future, I decided to start. I'll wait for (constructive) criticism on each segment before moving onto the next.
Great.  100% TP is for sure in my most anticipated list.  Good luck, etc.

Nice job on Segment 1.

TpFox: excellent CitS segment. to sum up what I mentioned on AIM, I saw a couple tiny mistakes and one possible timesaver but nothing big and it was still a very well done segment.

I tried adding the times of Jiano's final segments to your current time; they add up to 59 minutes 55 seconds, so you'll probably end up with a final time of around 4:22 in game time (assuming you manage to cut off that much time); SDA timing cuts off several minutes, so you've definitely got sub-4:20 there (around 4:16 according to SDA timing if you get 4:22 in-game). Cheesy Nice work.
King Laskdjf
I'm thinking of MAYBE attempting a new Wii run depending on how much time can be improved with new tricks. If over half an hour can be added, I'll have to get myself a Gamebridge/Cap-card (Or bother to send in tons of tapes from Australia :-X) and steal my brother's Wii.
First post, first speedrun (if possible :-/).
A Wii run can beat Jiano's time by nearly an hour thanks to the ToT skip.

i know.

i used a bad example. i should have used the all-temple example since that's an arbitrary category that's inside any%. also, i was thinking BA was separate but i forgot that it was approved.
Segment 2

2 seconds faster than TpFox. Tongue

Nice job, if I only I had better fishing the segment would have been much better.
