i didn't mean sub-optimal segments should be accepted. my reasoning was more on the lines of leaving some mistakes that cost like 2-3 seconds if the segment is tough, not bad stuff that costs like 30 seconds or old routes or anything like that.

also, taking breaks help as long as you don't make them too long.

Just wondering, has anyone seen these two tricks before? The second one makes me wonder if we could get Early Hyrule Field to work...

Map Glitch off of Rupee Text effect

Possible Early Hyrule Field (after faron twilight, but before Forest Temple)?
The latter OoB is pretty old, AFAIK there's no way to get back there that early in the game though. You need bombs to blow up the boulder in the way (and for that matter the Dominion Rod to be able to jump up onto the branch). Tho I can't recall whether it's plausible or not to go around the back (through the mist area), and I can't remember trying it, so maybe. Doubt it'll lead to anything though.

By the way, paraxade, have you put a stop to you twilight run too?

Even if you got up there with the boomerang only, you still would be screwed if you can't fix the bridge.

edit: I just had a thought, it probably won't work though. Let's pretend with did the BITE glitch, and got out of Faron. Could we use a map glitch to help us get across in any way. If we can get Epona out of bounds, we can take her to the twilight area as long as we go around the border.

But we don't need to fix the bridge; We can use the Map Glitch right after we warp to look for the bridge.

I don't understand where you think your going with this. To BITE means warping to Kakariko Village. It'd be pointless (and impossible since BITE only works under certain situations) to wait until we're able to Map Glitch before using BITE to get "Early" Kakariko Village since we'd have to fight king bublin, and if we don't wait we can't Map Glitch until we can get to the other side of Kakariko Gorge and kill the twilit over there.

Oh forgot about the fact we already be on the other side of the bridge. Ok, then his theory is one step closer then.
It's not possible to get up to the cave from the swamp's side, right? If it is, then that would be a way to get out with the boomerang.

Ok, so I have a rather strange theory for Early Hyrule Castle.

What if we DIDN'T get the Master Sword Early, but instead obtained it during Midna's Desperate Hour? The only way we could possibly even do this would be to prep for EMS, then come back as Link later on. Then we could clip into Laranyu Province early without the Master Sword, and beat Lakebed Temple while it was still in Twilight. Since the temple is beaten during Laranyu Twilight, Link shouldn't transform into his wolf form due to the cutscene breaking. The only problem with this is that we lose the ability to Spin Attack, making Laranyu Twilight impossible to clear.

That, and the possibility that it'd never work.

Without ems you can't save warp to get past the water tunnel in the 1st room of LBT. And with Lanayru still in twilight and no ems or fishing rod, there is no access to water bombs to refill your air.

Hrm, I forgot about that. And actually, the fishing rod wouldn't help at all because we'd be unable to enter the grotto as a human to catch bombfish. Are you sure there aren't any chests we can get that might have bombfish in them?

So if we get the Master Sword during the desperate hour you expect the castle doors to be accessible? I kind of doubt it. The way I figure it is this.

Barrier = no guards
No Barrier = guards.

However, I will still test this theory when I get the chance.
try it with AR.

You can probably clip through the guards using something like this when there isn't a barrier.

LOL you can transform right behind them. I'm surprised they don't figure out that Link is the wolf after that transformation.

edit: Well I got the Master Sword during the time minda was sick. The guards are still there, like I figured. Did you want me to meet Zelda to?
If you think it will make a difference I can also beat the third level in twilight, then get the MasterSword, then change it to light world.

edit: I just found another theory on how to get to Hyrule Castle early.

Yes, I know this was a April Fools joke, but what he did might be possible depending on the cheats he used.
He looks like he used either fast rolling, or roll through walls. However, he only rolled once, and from where he entered the wall, the force field should of stopped him but strangely it did not. So maybe if we can clip that corner we could get past the force field.

I want you to try a few things...

First, if you haven't tried it already, test to make sure that the invisible barrier where the guards stand hasn't disappeared. To easily do this, just hover to the opposite side of the doors and push them open, and try to walk back. You can try visiting Zelda, but I'm not sure anything will happen if you do.

I'd like you to try getting the master sword in a game where you've beaten the third temple before the twilight and then clear the twilight (activating white midna) and see what happens

I tested the barrier for the test where minda is sick, then got the Master Sword and cleared twilight.. it's still there.

I also tested what would happen if you beat Zant before healing minda and I got my hopes up. When I got to the castle the cut sceen where Minda breaks the barrier started. After it was all over, everything went back to normal (rainy and guards). Yes, barrier still existed. Too bad, could of been a small time saver if you didn't have to meet Zelda.

I have another theory which I'll test next. First a question. By using the BITE glitch, can you keep Epona the whole time? If so, then maybe we can use Epona to escape the forest without having to clear the first temple.

Also, could it be possible to stop Oocoo from warping Link in any way? Maybe by getting a heart piece during the warping process.

edit:
BTW, since I can't find a video of it, not sure if you guys know about this glitch or not. If you can't keep Epona the whole time, then there is another way to keep your horse. When goat herding for the second time you need to crawl through the hole. Well instead, just go over the gate or enter as a wolf. The cut scene will break and you will not lose Epona.
BTW can someone with AR make a video of this, I'd do it but it's hard for me to get decent quality.
zeldaspeedruns.com
We can already keep Epona all the time with BiT. However, we can't load Epona in Faron Woods during the time we can BiTE in Faron (which is after Faron Twilight, but before beating the Forest Temple)

I see what you mean by not loading (my game froze)

What weapons can we get at that point?
Just boomerang, lantern, sling shot, fishing rod, bottles... right?
I mean it's impossible to get bombs without warping ability, correct?

edit: Even though there was no barrier since I never met Zelda, I still wonder if it would be faster to just meet Zelda later on in the game.
That is if it's possible to meet her later.

If we do BiT, we don't get the Slingshot or the Fishing Rod, not too big of a loss except that the Fishing Rod glitch is the closest thing to a hover that we have so far.

You can either skip the Goron Mines entirely, or meet Zelda later on in the game.

Yea, too bad there's no fish in that area.
I basically studied just about every area to get out, and sadly I found no areas to escape from.
If there was a way to get Link to jump straight up, you could get on top of the roof.

When you learn the B charge you could skip the fighting if you could find some way to touch minda.

I got some crazy theories that will probably go no where, but some times the crazy ones led to new glitches.

edit: Not that it helps but when you collect the last tear in an area it cancels out the map glitch.
Hey can someone come fill me in on the new SS route over at ZSR?

I hope he didn't give up. Even though we discovered a few new things, he could still hold the record for quite some time.
How is it going with the runs, have the speedrunners here given up? Is the routes on the speedrun wiki up to date? I hope people don't give up speedrunning, and I don't think people should restart their runs when something new is dicovered.
I'm going through the game myself. Right now I am at the Lakebed Temple, I tried to clip through the vines with the the water raised in the main room. I fell with the usual falling animation blinking red, as I write I have been fallig through the water for 14 minutes. Have anyone experienced this before?
