excellent, glad that's sorted then
Hehe, I've also just noticed that I picked up the shotgun twice on the last bridge in POA as well. It's ok though because I had 17 shells so it only brought me back up to a full 20, and I'm fairly certain I haven't had less than 3 shells doing lair of the blind ones so far, thereby cheating my kills. Guess I just gotta drain another 3 shells then Angry
That sucks man, but at least you caught it now. Would really suck if you noticed it right at the end of the run.

Here's finally Lair of the Blind Ones !. Pretty pleased with how this one turned out. Just a few things to note though to start things off.

About the shotgun thing. Being that I should have had 14 shells when I started Lair of the Blind ones instead of 17, As I made my way through the level I never went under 3 shells, and eventually in segment 4 I picked up a shredder topping me back up to 20, and even if my shell count was what it should have been, it would have gone up to 20 as well. So all was well with that hick up.

The last two segments before the totem were originally going to be one large segment, but the sections right before the totem portal proved to be a bit too tricky to be as good as I wanted them to be, so I divided it up.  All in all I would say it was slightly easier than River of souls but not much. Segments 2, 3 and 4 each have very difficult overhead item tricks, which increased the reset factor ten fold for those.

Lastly just a couple of areas throughout where I get stuck in front of enemies. I let them pass since the rest of the segment was done well and the times were good. Hope you enjoy !
There's actually some more bits of information that's interesting to know.

There's a pretty major and easily exploitable glitch in this game, that probably only works on the PC due to the saving anywhere feature. I'll explain an example of how it works.
Lets say you've saved it just before an area in which some enemies need to be killed in order to open a door/cave door etc. Well you can kill the enemies but then quickly press pause and reload the save, when you re enter the area, the door you opened has stayed open but the enemies are back. So this would cut all the time out from killing the enemies. I immediately relegated this to cheating and I avoid it in all possible scenarios. and believe me in can happen in many places. Pretty much all places where a door needs to be opened from killing nearby enemies.

Another glitch I found out in lair of the blind ones. Near the end of the level at the rotating disc shaped wooden platforms. You can actually climb them from the very bottom. Yes you read that correctly :D. You have to press jump underneath them in a very distinguished rhythm for best reward to scale them. It also helps to be looking up at the rotating platform so you can adjust Turok's position, since the the rotation of the pole makes Turok spin round it as you scale in a very frantic fashion. Unfortunately scaling the poles earlier when you first come into contact with them doesn't offer any rewards. Since when you successfully scale up one, one exit takes you to the end of the level with unfinished missions, and the other exit takes you to a big wooden gate that is only unlockable from the other side. Even if the gate could be unlocked I don't think it would save time since the mission objective is far back anyway.

Fascinating tidbits there, and an epic run as always!  I had actually tried that overhead grab near the waterfalls many times and never got it to work, so it was a real treat to see you pull it off ^u^  As for the water maze I had tossed the idea around that the right side start might be faster but up until now I wasn't quite sure.
cool, glad you liked it !. Yea the water maze route is a route I found and immediately stuck to. It just seemed faster as it's a more direct route to the cave door key.

I was worried that I finished the level with too low health. Earlier attempts had me able to finish the boss with about 70 health, but this attempt was too fast for me to consider retrying. I did a little test of the first part of the Hive and my health is ok till I reach that early full health anyway. I've been dreading this level but strangely excited by it at the same time.

Also on a different note: Better late than never I suppose but I've suddenly realized that I've sort of hijacked your thread Cheesy Since I'm not even running the same version. Would people rather me make a topic in the PC section and just re-post my WIP videos in it. Or is it ok to remain here ?
.
Leave it here. People following the run already know where to look, no need to shift it over to the PC forums.
I'd also say that the thread should stay, it's already been up through most of the run's planning and I tend to feel like it would jinx the run to change threads before it's done.  I think the deal you've got going on with the Hive is that it's both high risk and high benefit- You're sure to have a really hard time but you're also sure to demonstrate all your best skills for the most impressive performance ^u^

Good points you both raised, I shall remain here. I'll get cracking on the Hive this weekend hopefully Tongue

There's actually one more glitch I forgot to mention, which works in the same way as the load save one mentioned before. I call it the mock invincibility trick. If you beat a totem (or boss as well I think) and then quickly pause and load the save, you have invincibility. Because they programmed Turok to not take any further damage once the Totem or boss is beaten, for the remainder of time left before you warp out. This is also obviously cheating. However I will say it looks as if I may have done the totem with this glitch activated by accident. As I see just one grenade thrown by a blind one hitting me but I don't take damage. The rest of them I swerve round though. My health would only be about 10 less on the boss, and I still would have killed him. Then I believe it's perfectly feasible to grab that early full health in the Hive to top me up to full as usual. So shall I let this one slide too ?
I'd say that as long as you reach the full health pickup with more than 10 health remaining it shouldn't matter.  Just make sure to mention it along with the others when you submit the final run to keep it squared with the reviewers.
Will do. It's quite annoying it happened really, as it's so easily done. I do a totem attempt, kill all the blind ones and then I think "that wasn't very good, I'll start again", and so I trigger the glitch by accident. At least it appears only one grenade hits me throughout that totem otherwise I'd certainly have to do it again as my health would be drastically different.
Hm, I'm sorry to be a bother but after watching your video again I have an ammo question for you- How did you have 6 Sunfire pods bu the time you reached the energy totem?  I only remember seeing one ammo pick up which should have been 3 sunfire pods.  I'm hoping this doesn't cause an inconsistency later so I'm bringing it up now.  If this turns out to be the case then the only logical way to iron it out is to use a save portal and request ammo from Adon, then make sure not to use more than 3 of the pods during your trip to pick up the level 4 P-Key.
Yep, that specific pickup next to that portal for some reason gives you all 6 sunfire pods. which is really convenient because I didn't want to collect any others on the route. I have no idea how or why it gives you 6 in one pickup, because usually it is 3. it might be different for N64. I'll check again on the PC, but I'm 99.9 percent sure it gives me 6 and it done so on multiple segment attempts.

I don't believe this. Now I'm testing it on my PC the sunfire pod is giving me only 3, and I can almost swear on my life that it was giving me 6 on iceydamos PC that I recorded it with. Unless there's some strange RNG thing going on due to my ammo of my other guns or whatever the fuck made it do it, and it was doing it on every attempt at the segment. Damn this game and it's glitchy as fuck engine. I know I didn't pick any others up either. This game is taking the piss.
we have lift off
If you're playing 1 version of the game on 1 platform and are using the right saves then it doesn't matter what shit the game pulls on you.
I guess that's right. If anything, the glitch/bug happening helped quite a lot. If I just had 3 sunfire pods on the totem it would have made it a bit harder for sure. Perhaps using shredder to finish off some of the blind ones. Funny really because I just thought that pickup granted you all 6. No idea it was some bug Tongue
Man, and here I thought the N64 was the glitchy one ^o^;  Well actually in the grander scheme I'd say it still is but I continue to be intrigued by the unusual stuff that you're finding on the PC ^w^

You should try to replicate this bug. I may be wrong, but I believe that only replicatable bugs are allowed to be used, because otherwise it might be hard to differ them from cheats (or trainers). I will look into the rules to check whether I remember correctly.
Other than that: Great run!

Edit: Couldn't find anything about bugs having to be replicable, but it is still a fine line your treading considering verification.

If a verifier decided to bring it up and you couldn't repeat it, that may potentially be a problem. However, if you're not cheating or using the wrong saves or whatever then you have nothing to worry about. Isn't all this shown in the video anyway? You can't exactly put in a cheat to get a specific thing to give you 6 instead of 3...
Exactly, and this is the worry I initially had with the bug. Since I don't know how it happened, but it's helped a fair bit. It's like half cheating, half honest play, it's a weird scenario that I hope doesn't run the verification into any problems.

I think though that if this bug were something that could be done anywhere with the right setup, it might be worth doing the run again or doing a seperate glitch run. But I'm not interested in starting all over. I wish this bug didn't exist... Sad
O yeah the infinite ammo cheat would give you full ammo upon collecting a first time item, but I'm 100% sure I never turned it on by accident or entered the cheat menu
Sorry for the third post, but yeah if infinite ammo cheat had been turned on then all my other guns would be topped to full, so yeah we can rule that out.
Another curiosity that crossed my mind- You walked within about 2-3 seconds of getting the pod near the last thermal vent- In a worst case scenario couldn't verifiers add 2-3 seconds to your final time as a penalty to compensate for the extra 3 sunfire pods instead of disqualifying the run?  I'm interested to know the verifiers' stance on this if it should come down to it.

That sounds daft. No point manually adding time for reasons that aren't obvious to people that aren't verifiers. If you got 6 pods from that one pickup then you got 6 pods. No point faulting it.
