Very nice DM, liked the Totem strat :). Idk when it'll come in the run, but I'm looking forward to seeing you do the hives :P.
thanks :). The next level is River of Souls, then Lair of the Blind ones and then it's the Hive. I already did the Triceratops segment before leaving this weekend just to give me a little head start when I return to it.
Man, that's some damn amazing work!  I wouldn't have tried even half of those jumps around the poison water even now that I've seen them done ^o^;

Hehe they were difficult to do. I was having trouble trying to get them all done on Iceydamos PC. I don't know if it was running the game a little faster because I seemed to die a lot easier than I did on my PC. Anyway I believe Turok has a timer of about 1 second before he dies when he drops into the swamp, and the number of that timer stays as it is after you jump out, then counts back down again when you hit the swamp again, and so on. So for a maximum number of jumps across the swamp as you can possibly do, you need to press jump again on the earliest frame it lets you after touching the swamp. You know when your timer runs out because after several jumps there is absolutely no time to jump again. Luckily all the jumps in that section before the armory pretty much maxes out the timer. Any more jumps would probably be impossible to do. After going into a portal the timer seems to reset. Hence why I was able to do more after exiting the armory.
Curious information there, I had a vague suspicion that there might be a cumulative timer for that but I never put two and two together.  I'm very glad to have gotten the chance to work with you on this run as it's hard to imagine anyone being more suited to the task ^u^
.
It's not immediately obvious to me as a casual viewer how dangerous those jumps are. It just looks like jumping through mud.

I have played the game, I just don't remember it very well though. Smiley

Impressive segments though. Just one thing, why did you use your overlay map for the first armory but not for the other two?
Yeah the swamp water around armory 2 is deadly shit. But the Mud you see me hopping around earlier in the level is harmless, just to clear that up.

About the Armory thing: That was no real reason other than I figured I didn't really need the map to help round the tunnels. Usually on a playthrough I'd put it on so I know the route back to the portal so I don't get killed by the explosions. But being a run and me repeating the segments many times I knew where to go, and probably should have not put the map on for Armory 1.
Just to say in advance, there's a chance I won't get to finish this level this weekend unfortunately, due to it's size and difficulty, but mainly just due to having other non game related things to do this weekend as well, which gave me less time to concentrate on it. But I have been doing it and the level is coming along nicely. I'm currently at the first sister. My segments are big for this level, having roughly the same as the Port of Adia, even though the level is about twice the size as it.

Anyway I will do more today and there is a small chance I could finish it and have it ready for youtube like the others so far
Yeah I just didn't have time this week, but I did a lot more before I left like I said I would. I'm currently saved in the third sister graveyard. I can't wait to show this level as it's really tightly optimized and is only just under 20 minutes long, even though the level is huge. It's due to so many shortcuts and water boosts Tongue
Awesome, can't wait to see it. You think you'll get it done next weekend?
I'll easily get it done but on the weekend after that when I go back down there.  After the level I have to get the Port of Adia primagen key so you'll see that too. I'll even get stuck into the Lair of the blind ones, although I can't finish the level there at that time of course. Now that level really is massive and has many hard overhead item tricks to test my patience and prolong it's completion.

I'm going on holiday today and coming back Friday, so obviously I can't reply to anything until then.

Here it is, finally !

Believe it or not but when I had the majority of this level done and left it, I had unknowingly missed one of the level 4 keys !!. So I had to redo nearly the whole level (restarted from the segment after the triceratops, since the first key in the level was the one I missed, godammit). It came as a blessing in disguise as I was able to improve the level quite a lot and found some better strategies on the sisters. Easily the hardest level so far in the run. The 2nd and 3rd sister segments each had over 200 attempts due to trying to get about 90% of my shots, one hit kill head shots.

In this video you'll see me also go and collect the Port of Adia Primagen key after the finishing the River of souls Totem. Right near the end of the level you'll see that the final full health is there when I actually collected it in my initial Port of Adia speed run. The reason for this is due to the stat replication process. When I got my health to what I needed before the full health, I deliberately skimmed past it as to not pick it up, hence why it is there on my return. To keep things fair, I ran around the full health again, since it's technically not supposed to be there.
Nice run, sorry to hear about missing the key. I know how that goes :P. Looking forward to the lair, I hated this level so much when I played through this game and that was on easy so good luck to you lol.

That was truly epic, no other words could possibly express it ^U^  What I love most of all is that delayed explosion work you do with the Grenade Launcher- First at the gate guarded by three light zombies, and then on the first two Sisters of Despair.  I might have occasionally killed a Sister with splash damage like that but again I never put two and two together, setting up the first grenade ahead of time to cancel the normal firing delay on the second shot.  Congratulations again on such an amazingly precise performance!

Thanks Phazon !. It's really weird how things work out though sometimes. I didn't fret too bad when I went to open the level 4 door and it didn't open, because in the back of my mind I knew level 2 wasn't quite as good as it could have been. And yes level 4 is gonna beat me up, but not as bad as level 5 and 6 will. The torture I will have to endure will be off the charts .

Thanks Squeebles ! The Grenade launcher trick against the light zombies was one of the improvements I found on my 2nd run of the level. Because before, this room was the one of the ones that bugged me the most. As the light zombies seemed to be resistant to my auto aim until they are fully out of the ground. The grenade launcher defeats this problem with it's splash damage, and it's very good I have this weapon this early.

Also the path I took to kill the big zombies in the main area was a new strategy. The old strategy before had me walking along the top and dropping down in front of the spawning zombie next to the gate which never seemed to get killed quickly despite my efforts. The new strategy was much more efficient because it gets me into a position where the first zombie is just emerging round the corner for me to kill it instead of him walking down at an angle with the light zombie where I can't kill him. Not just this but also, killing this zombie first gives the aforementioned gate zombie time to come round the corner for me to give it a nice and easy distant headshot.

The Sisters themselves seem to be quite weak, as plenty of practice runs showed me that you don't need 2 direct grenade shots to kill them, so I exploited one splash damage early shot followed by a direct shot. The neat thing about redoing segments constantly is fishing out little things that would normally go unnoticed. It's much like making a TAS of a game where you get subjected to the same kind of knowledge all the time, then using it in a productive way if you can.
Ok, I can't remember if either of us have found this squeebles but as I do Lair of the blind ones I've found a fantastic shortcut !. It's in the big waterfall area where the first thermal vent is. As you fall down the last waterfall, and you swim round the corner to shoot the switch above the water to open the cave door below the surface, you swim round the tunnel and get a water boost out of the water. Now when you get to the higher up second wooden balcony with the dinosoid patrolling, you can use the water boost jump distance to jump over to the cave door key platform ! This skips a few tunnels and that room that locks you in and you have to face 3 big spiders. Although the spiders don't give me trouble anyway because I use explosive shells for one blast kill as they descend on their web, the gains of this are still huge. It also skips a draw bridge lowering where you have to wait at the gate for several seconds while it does it. If this wasn't good enough, when you complete the thermal vent mission you have to do it all over again so you can use the same water boost jump, to skip them all again. I estimate the time saved is probably around minute and a half.

Also the jump is not that long or difficult so I would assume it's easily doable on N64.
Man, brilliant as always!  I'm sure with a simple glance in that direction I would've seen the possibility but for some odd reason I just kept focusing on following the path.  Congratulations on the discovery!
Nice, so it wasn't already discovered. What made me think it might have been at some point by one of us was because it is just that damn obvious; and I'm really glad it's found because if I'd completed my run, and then found this shortcut, it wouldn't sit very well with me. Lets hope I don't miss anything else later on. If there is anything else.

Anyway I managed 2 segments of this level so far. Segment 3 starts in this big waterfall area no less. I just didn't quite manage to do a perfect segment here yet but I was close. It's a 3 minute segment going through the first tunnel, doing overhead item trick for the satchel charge, jump down, get a water boost, do the shortcut, do thermal vent, do a death warp down the vent to exit and then back up and round to the next hole drop. My time is 51:51 so far. I secretly really want to sub 2 hours now because I'm certain I'm several minutes ahead of my test run at this point. I believe I hit the hour mark at the beginning of segment 4 at the water maze. My attempts of segment 3 finishing at the water maze are at the 54/55 minute mark. So I'm around 5 minutes ahead of that test run.
Man, you really are the best for this run ^u^  Having even a little over 3 levels done in an hour never even seemed feasible to me, regardless of who was running the game or how they did it- The game just has that much ground to cover.  As always I look forward to seeing the results, and I wish you the best of luck getting the results you want -crosses fingers-

I hope I can manage it for it seems like a a worthwhile target !

Well there's some slightly annoying news about this run, and it's about that stat replication thing again. I made another blunder !

In my recorded POA run I picked up 2 out of the 3 clips behind that house on the way to Primagen key area. In my unrecorded stat replication I didn't go behind the house at all, thus not picking up any clips. In my return to the level after doing River of souls I recklessly picked up all 3 clips. I was extremely low on pistol ammo and these 3 topped me up to about 32. In segment 2 of my Lair of the blind ones I used the Mag-60 to kill some dinosoids before doing the overhead item trick to get the cave door key.

So unless I can simply be let off for this I'd have to do the whole run again because I've deleted the POA saves getting the Primagen key. As far as I'm aware the "extra ammo" from the clips is only used to kill those two mentioned dinosoids and the barrel that needs to be shot to drop the big log shortly after. From there I switch to shredder and keep it t the next save.

I'd like to know what people think of this. I for one am pretty annoyed with myself for it

Just for the record, I won't start the run from scratch ever again. There's too much pain involved Cry

[edit] I actually also used 12 pistol bullets via the Mag-60 to kill some enemies on the trek back to the end of POA after collecting the P-key. Which is kinda funny coz that one pistol clip that would have been left behind the house would have given me a maximum of 12 bullets anyway, the same used for these enemies. So yeah it should just be those dinosoids that shouldn't have been killed with the Mag-60 in Lair of the blind ones.
As luck would have it, I just did a litte play around of the the beginning of Lair of the blind ones. Before those dinosoids is a Mag-60 which would have topped me up to 20, enough to kill those two dinosoids and that barrel, just after that is another Mag-60. So anyway all the problem is now is that I simply have about 20 bullets more than I should have at this point, so all the Mag-60 kills so far are perfectly reasonable had my stats been correct.
I'll certainly be keeping 'em crossed that the stats work out- This run is sure to be the redefinition of the word epic!
Thanks man, I'm certainly proud of it so far.

About the stat thing, what I may do is drain 20 bullets (not against enemies) so that would make my stats exactly how they would be if I didn't go behind that house in POA. Well actually go behind the house but only pick up 1 clip is what I should have done, but that's impossible since you can't skim past them.

My next segment might look stupid with me seemingly wasting ammo, but what the hell. I think it's only fair. If some folks think I shouldn't bother and not worry about it them by all means say Smiley
.
I'd say firing the bullets off would be the best plan. It'd be easy enough to explain to the verifiers.
I'll second that- It's much better to explain tossing out 20 rounds rather than trying to explain that you kept 20 you shouldn't have had.
