Roll Eyes at the part where it says that I'm "now a decade old." I think I actually told the guy who wrote it about that, but he didn't fix it.
Fucking Weeaboo
An article about speed runs and half of them are TASes.  Guess it's to be expected since it's about entertainment. ^^;;

My feelings on The Demon Rush
My favorite is number 2, because it's most likely an ancient rejected TAS (it's four years old now) that the guy is passing off as a speedrun...

And everyone is falling for it. Angry

Look at how fast the guy is switching weapons at 2:25ish (first boss), it would make Frezy jealous.

I'm sure the guy's tas is in gruefood somewhere, but TASvideos is down right now so I can't find it.
Funny how number one isn't even really a speedrun imho...

ah well...

It is entertaining to watch, I'll give him that Smiley

and he mentions mike the legendary so I won't go nitpicking Smiley
Visually Appealing
TASes are speedruns too. he's got an okay list. i wouldn't completely agree with it, but for the most part his choices are understandable. the X1/2 dual TAS is awesome.

Complete. Global. Saturation.
I think this guy is way too easily impressed, but I will agree with him on choices six, four, and one. Personally, I'm more entertained by the Contra III run we have here than some 4 year old rejected "pacifist" run.

And a guy who writes like this is just asking not to be taken seriously
(and to be punched in the face)

Seeing one of the games that once kicked my childhood butt being molested in such a light-hearted way brings tears of joy to my eyes!
About the lack of PC games; PC simply lacks good platforming action which, in my opinion, is needed for a speedrun to be truly impressive. Sure, some FPS's demonstrate very impressive jump-shortcuts, but only once every so many levels. While many console games are filled to the rim with impressive jumping. And I can't help but find that more impressive than shooting.

I have to disagree, what about half life 2? While there is impressive shooting in it, it is much more difficult to pull off all the flying, difficult glitches in the boat and insane boosts. Just watch the 2 mins that Ravenholm is done in and tell me thats all shooting skill. Its not exactly platform stuff but I would have thought people who don't like all the shooting would enjoy and appreciate that at least as much as any platformer, though its all down to preference.

Also platforming stuff can often be a lot easier than FPS type stuff as they are 2D mostly (assuming you are talking more about NES and SNES runs). When you add in another dimension everything becomes a lot more random. So while there are some very difficult 2D platformers with a lot of randomness in them, a FPS can be less obviously hard just because of another dimension of randomness (like a lot of the halflife 2 run).
Don't think!  feeeeeal
Ya I too thought it was funny number 2 is a TAS which doesn't state it's a TAS.  It SEEMS as though the guy is trying to pass it off as a real run, or he just doesn't know much about ethics and/or have a clue.  The fan site seems to think it's a real speedrun too as he didn't say it was a TAS but he did for all the other TASes, and for number 2, this is a really bad TAS.

Yeah... When I said impressive I meant look impressive, not be impressive. And there should be a lot more "generally" in there. The HL/HL2 speedruns are amazing, but generally, FPS speedrun require having played the game before you can truly find them impressive.

And the third dimension, in some runs, just makes it a lot harder to see what's going on.

And about the fact that there are TASes in the list; Tool-Assisted Speedrun. They should be in a speedrun top ten.

Have you seen groobo's Portal speedrun? There are many other PC speedruns, such as Call of Duty 4, Gun, all the Quake runs, and FEAR which amuse and amaze the hell out of me (obviously looking impressive too).
The Diablo run is also highly impressive and entertaining without having platform action, but I will admit the one would most likely need play and understand it to really appreciate it.
Ur-Quan. You're for dinner.
Oh god yes... That FEAR run was just epic. Those slow-mo physics jumps were possibly the best looking skips I've ever seen.
Seeing Kibumbi's Doom3 nightmare is also impressive what with the fact that just about everything in the game could kill him at any moment. That and there's almost no places where nothing much is going on.

But it's all just a matter of perspective. Different runs are impressive for different reasons.
How the Hell can he justify throwing #3 in there when you have the superb DMC1 speed runs or even Heretic's Low Percent SS-Rank DMD run in DMC3?  Granted, Heretic's run is hardly a speed run, but at least it's a frickin' full game completion and an amazing accomplishment.  True Style meanwhile has nothing to do with speed (See or for incredibly amusing examples), it's all about aesthetics and if the player happens to clear a room with anything resembling speed, it's more from remarkable crowd control and relentless, meticulously practiced combos than a deliberate attempt to clear the room in the lowest time possible..

The only video that even -tried- to do a speed run for TST was Marty81's Free Style video ( for TST2 but... that's about it, really.

/tl;dr - RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE
Half-Life should be there in my opinion.
