What do you think the top 5 systems ever made were?

Also GCN beats PS2? Oh well, opinions are opinions

Also, no one's specific here, are we rating off of only the gaming libraries of the consoles (GCN would be placed higher for me), or the games created by the vision the console inspired (Wii would be placed higher for me)?

... I'll produce my list based on what games I've appreciated the most from each console, as opposed to a predictable list of consoles that have affected video gaming history in the most positive ways. *Constructs list*

This isn't gamefaqs, but I'll play along anyways

1. Sega Genesis: Too many classics to name, and even its rpg library is pretty darned good if you aren't biased against it (Shining force? Phantasy star? Landstalker?).
2. NES- too many classics out there. I still play tecmo super bowl to this day.
3. Master System- There are so many little gems that no one got to appreciate. I thankfully get to appreciate them now at a fraction of the cost thanks to how underappreciated this system is.
4. PS1- This defined about 5 or 6 years of gaming. Anyone who thinks the N64 was better at the time is either blind or lying to themselves.
5. Super Nintendo- I really didn't like it at the time because it had no shooters and most of the games seemed slow compared to genesis titles. There are still a ton of gems in the collection though.

I find it hard to believe that favoring a system because of its games - which is completely subjective - deserves such a powerful statement.

I wouldn't know my top 5 consoles in order, except that SNES is my absolute favorite. N64, NES and the PlayStations are up there as well.

1) Wii - There aren't very many games out for it that are great yet, but this year there will be some pretty sweet releases.

2) DS - This has a lot of my favorite games on it, plus the touch screen is sweet.

3) GCN - Many an hour has been spent on these games.

4) PS2 - Once again, it has a lot of my favorite games on it (MGS series comes to mind, along with GTA).

4) N64 - Great games on it, Banjo-Kazooie, OoT, MM, so many great games, so it ties with PS2.

5) SNES - I came to the realization that the SNES HAS to be on my top 5 when I got Super Metroid a few weeks ago.

Runner Up:
GBA would have been #5, but really. How can you beat Super Metroid? No contest right thar.

I actually favor the n64 games, it has 3 of my favorite games of all time: perfect dark, mario kart 64, and super smash, but I realize that the playstation has had more of an impact than the n64 and defined gaming of today more (for better or worse).

And yes, this site is filled with nintendo fanboys. Probably has to do with the fact that the first runs were mostly metroid runs, but I don't know. Just take a look at people's favorite runs, and 95% of the time they are going to be on nintendo consoles.

Hi

Based solely on games:

5) Gamecube (primarily for the Monkey Balls, the Viewtiful Joes, the Metroid Primes, Paper Mario: TTYD, and RE4)
4) Wii (just got it a few days ago and have been playing Wii Sports nonstop. So yeah, this console got the #4 spot just from one game.)
3) DS Lite (great games ... never thought I'd have so much fun playing as an attorney)
2) GBA-SP (I've probably put more hours into this thing than any other system on this list, thanks to both Wariowares.)
1) SNES (no explanation needed).
