I haven't had much time to play the game recently (been ill) but I broke up from school today, so should have completed within the next few days (unless I become engrossed in HP).

Still looking for glitches. I was wondering if you could explore into the Lava Caves further early in the game, but there's an invisible wall.

Not much as of yet...

Yes, planned to skip getting the 100 year old key and attempt Lava Caves grapple-less, but then realized the pig bag and all. ://
I highly doubt that there will be any large sequence breaks or even glitches in the game. I'll continue looking, ragardless.
two rows of links on main page pretty nifty
The closest thing to glitch/sequence break I've seen is using the 'getting hurt by water/spikes' jumpback. (As seen on my video of the haunted mansion)

BTW, do you know of the 3 locations to use the mighty fish food? I only know of two, and the third one is really bugging me.
GameFAQs will be able to explain better than me.

I've been contemplating the viability of doing a 130-quest run; I forgot the sheer depth of the game, and the task seems daunting, to say the least. Possibly in a year or two, when I've had chance to play through the game enough times...

Are you going to do single segments for the evil pigs. The randomness of them is annoying, and getting them in the bag within their first appearance will shave precious minutes off your time.

"...use the ladder by the smile door [what is in the smile door?]"

Behind the smile door is Yan, and (I think) 2 charity wings, so it may be useful to open it.
two rows of links on main page pretty nifty
Nope, they only list the Masakari river, but I found it yesterday while screwing around after completing a segment (my comp takes about an hour 1/2 to process a half hour video)

As for the 130 quest run, I feel it is too impossible for me.  I can do a 128 quest run, but I cannot get the mission "I want a Gold Medal" and thus "5 golden items" finished.

The Red Pig: at the beginning of a segment which consists of that and flying around
The Orange Pig: I've worked a foolproof 2-appearance bagging
The Blue Pig: at the end of a (rather easy) segment :/
The Green Pig: at the beginning of an (almost uploaded) segment
The Purple Pig: at the beginning of a very hard segment (crossing Lava Caves)
The Navy Pig: The end of a segment which consists of collecting the seaweed/baron (IF I would have 6(!) Charity wings when I arrive in Trick Village) >.>
The Yellow Pig: I will have collected the pig bag in the Navy Pig segment, and would Baron to the Y crossing to beat the Yellow pig

(whew)

In that smile door is only one Charity wing, and I DO go by there happy (see below).  Besides, there is a (newly discovered) set of 2 Charity wings above the gap between the Phoenix and Lava Caves.

Also worth mentioning is that I've decided to NOT get the Funky Parasol, it is slow to use and slow to get (go through Phoenix Mountain AGAIN WTF)

I plan on flying to lava caves and backtracking to get the Pig bag and the healing herbs.  I'm still happy from the Green Pig smiley door when I'm doing this, so I must die after collecting the 3 things there (in lava caves, next segment) and exit to get the 2 charity wings.

Long post.

You can disregard those videos that are up, the first one is the only segment that remains unchanged from my final planned route, which I finally have got!  It is much faster, I'm certain, and it doesn't have ANY death abuse!  15 segments long, and and optimization of the Charity wings, so I never run too far when I can fly, I use my last wing to fly to Dwarf Village to get Baron.

1)      Collect Furious Tornado, jump back to the background, move along to the egg, collect egg, use Furious Tornado, jump down, move to second egg, enter Ol' Pond, get banannas, return to Charles in the forground, use banannas, return to the background over Minuzo's door, continue on to the third egg, jump into the foreground, go up to the fourth egg, go to 100 Year Old Man's House, collect the Charity Wing outside his hut, go to 100 Flower Forest, jump on three dwarves, go to the Dwarf Village, learn of the lost Dwarves, save at Village entrance.  [1 CW]

2)      Go to the Wobbly Wharf, saving 2 dwarves along the way, save the dwarf at the Wobbly Wharf, collect Baron, save the last two dwarves in the area, collect the 2 Charity Wings, return to the village, give Baron to the Nurse, go to the Watch Tower, save 2 dwarves, rescue the child, return to the village, get the Blue Pig Bag, save at the Watch Tower.  [3 CWs]

3)      Collect/Equip the Jumping Pants, enter Charity Square, go to The Mushroom Forest, get a Healing Mushroom, get Happy, talk to the Dwarf, get Sad, talk to the dwarf, collect the Charity Wing, get happy, go to Phoenix Mountain, save.  [4 CWs]

4)      Go through the first area of Phoenix Mountain, without knocking down Charles, move along to Lava Caves, exit and backtrack to collect/equip the Dashing Pants, ride the Phoenix to Baccus Village, go to town hall, learn about mouse, find mouse, report mouse, learn of Haunted Mansion, go to Haunted Mansion, save.  [4 CWs]

5)      Run to Baccus Lake, run back, report it to Town Hall, learn of the chest in Town Hall, return to Haunted Mansion, break all the eggs/collect 4 of the key parts, going along the East side, the the South Side, then the West side (although there are no eggs left here), and the North side, then break the magic egg, collect the 1,000 year old Key, fly to Lava Caves, collect the Green pig bag, exit, collect the grapple, fly to Baccus Village, collect the Orange pig pag, fly to the North side of the Mansion, save.  [1 CW]

6)      Enter the Smile! door and collect the last key piece, enter the Green Pig door, save Lava Caves, run to the room to assemble the key, run to the large key hole door, collect the Purple pig bag, exit, Fly to Lava Caves, save.  [0 CWs]

7)      Exit to Phoenix Mountain, go up the ladder, collect the Healing Herbs, open the Smile! door for a Charity Wing, use the Healing Mushroom, grapple back to jump down to where the large key hole door is, collect the Red pig bag, go over the awkward platforms, collect the 2 Charity Wings from over the gap, save in Lava Caves.  [3 CWs]

8)      Fight the Purple Evil Pig, collect the 2 charity wings out of a 1,000 year old chest, collect the 5 bunk flowers, exit to the Phoenix's nest, use the Bunk Flowers, save in the Masakari Jungle.  [5 CWs]

9)      Staying in the foreground, run to Charles and collect the hat, stay in the foreground on the way back, jump to the background, give the hat to the Miner, get Bananna Juice, give bananna juice to Charles, learn to swim, fly to the Y-Crossing, learn of their problem, learn about the door, learn about the bomb, save at the Y-crossing. [4 CWs]

10)      Exit to the Jungle, climb the big tree, collect the bomb, enter the Orange Evil Pig door, save Baccus Village, return to the Y-crossing, blow up the door, collect the key to the Ol' Pond, fly to Charity Square, save. [3 CWs]

11)      Run to collect the 2 charity wings by the statues, grapple up and over to fight the Red evil Pig, fly to Ol' Pond, enter Trick Village, collect the Seashell Necklace, enter the 10,000 year old man's house, fly to 1,000 year old Man's room, learn to dive from Mermaid, exit and fly to Trick Village, save.  [2 CWs]

12)      Collect the 10 Math Beads from under the water, along with 1 charity wing in a 1,000 year old chest.  Swim out and up to enter the 10,000 year old man's house, get the 10,000 year old key, return underwater and collect the Yellow pig bag, exit to the Masakari River over the waterfall, enter Old Tree Hill, collect the Knowledge Fruit and the Navy pig bag, fly to the Dwarf Village and give Baron the Healing Herbs and Knowledge Fruit, learn of Seaweed, fly to Mushroom Forest, save.  [1 CW]

13)      Use the background to get to the beach, boat across, collect the seaweed, enter the room, fight the Navy pig, fly to Dwarf Village, use the Seaweed, get Baron, Baron to the Y-crossing, enter the Clock Tower, fight the Yellow Evil Pig, Baron to the Charity Square, go out to the Watch Tower, enter the elevator to the Underground Maze, use the Thief's Wire, learn of the thief at the Mansion, Baron to the South Side of the Mansion, save. [0 CWs, Baron]

14)      Collect the Unbreakable Wire, exit the room, Baron to the Underground Maze, go to the 1,000,000 year old man's room, fight the Blue Evil Pig, get transported to the Strange, Small Room, learn of Seven Friends, save.

15)      Baron to Dwarf Village, get friend, Baron to Baccus Village, get friend, Baron to the North Side of the Mansion, get friend, Baron to the Y-crossing, get friend, get friend from the Lumberyard, get friend from the Iron Castle, Baron to the Strange, Small Room, enter and defeat the real evil pig.

Thoughts?  I think it's pretty solid.  I hope to get some segments of this route up on You tube by tomorrow, this time.
Looks well-planned.

The only sequence-break that I feel would be possible would be to get to an area early, due to skipping a required task. However, skipping tasks would often mean skipping pig bags, so that defeats the point.

Definately want to see some on YouTube.

Also, I've just come into a MUCH better quality camera, with sound, and a suitable framerate, so that's something to look forward to.

I'll have to start recording very soon, with Nate's instated 'No VHS-captured runs after 2007' rule, and having no other method of capture.  I'll probably end up asking for the mid-2008 extension on a VHS run.

Hey, hey.
NEW first segment up, not much difference from the first first segment, but it's better.
Second segment by tomorrow night.

After this segment, I just screwed about in the game, and finished with a time of 1:01, with many mistakes and deaths.
I am striving for a final save time of 40 minutes.  (At the end of the 14th segment, at the small strange room)

3rd segment up and roxxin, 4th as well.
Internet has been dead the past week, so I haven't checked your vids.

I completed Tomba! with 129 quests, but I think I may have ran into a glitch which may prove to be substantial should I do a 130 run.

I cannot complete the quest "Where the barrel rolls..." as I blackjacked the barrel earlier, and it won't come back... Is there a way to fix this? However, I can do teh "I want a gold medal" quite easily :p

Also, I've noticed a couple of differences in my pre-release version, in that the map, status list and quest list are absent.

Lastly, I found a minor glitch with next to no uses. The funky parasol lets you get lots of distance off jumps anyway, but to float even further, equip the stone boomerang, and quickly and repeatedly throw it mid-float. Each throw makes Tombi stand up, and moves you forward slightly.

Finally, I can see myself going for a SS run or possibly a 130 run in the (near?) future, so I may need run planning for that.

The barrel never comes back for me either.  I think it's the only 'failable' mission, no second-chances.  Just hit it normally once at a time.  I need help with that mission!  Can you maybe post a video of that?

What happens when you press select?

Only the stone boomerang?

I'll help plan for a 130 route, and I think I've got the SS route down already. Wink

My vid would be horrendous qulaity, but I think I can do that for you on a new file.

Funnily enough, haven't tried...

It works best with boomerangs in general (not grapple or blackjack etc.) but I tested it and stone seemed to go the furthest, due to a repetitive throw thing. I've had the stone boomerang being thrown in 3 different directions at once due to the ability to throw it quickly repeatedly.

My 129 took 8 hours, although lots of that was messing around. I dunno what to guess at time-wise; planning will be a nightmare!

I'd be all willing to help plan (omg good idea: get the frog early! :p)

Well that's how you get the events, map, etc.

Wouldn't the iron boomerang's 4 ways be better?

What?

Random question: what is the door next to the second chick egg (forest of all beginnings) used for?
Isn't it the back entrance to the last set of caves?
'Last set of caves' being the Underground Maze?

Another question: are there 12 Vitality Max +1 in the game (reaching 16) as I only have 15, and wonder whether 16 should be gathered for a true 100% run?

Yes that door leads out of the Underground maze, I believe in the leftmost door underground.

I think it's not necessary to collect the vitality +1s as many of them are just out of the way.  The ones you collect from missions are the only ones you should be getting. (The 2(?) from the fat dwarf lady I think)

The iron boomerang, better than the stone boomerang for the parasol floating?  Worthless, I know, but still.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks (you too bmn).

I think you get 4 from quests: you get one from Death Fruit Juice, I Want a Bronze Medal, Something's Cooking and Take Two of These.

I think they're pretty similar. If only it had an application...

I was thinking that in a 130 quest run, the Gold Items should be collected as soon as they become available, I think you can have enough cheese for the gold fruit before the Trick Village, which is when you can first get the Gold Medal, you can get the gold leaf butterfly after the jungle, and the gold candy can be gotten then too.  The only item that would wait until past Trick Village would be the Gold Flower, and if you don't have all the items, the others aren't of any use anyway, so maybe it's best to collect them as you most availably can, but as soon as you beat the Blue pig, collect them all, for your psychic fish.

I also think that the "red + blue = ?" should be done early and not have any deaths following.
The Mysterious/Normal mushrooms should probably be taken ASAP, I think you'd have enough AP after getting the 1,000 year old key to get the Normal Mushroom. [150,000 I think]  Obviously, the leaf butterflies should be collected before the evil pigs show up in the 100 flower forest.  I think you shouldn't talk to Yan until after meeting the 100 year old man, or you would have to backtrack to talk again.  The items that go into making the Gold Candy should probably be collected only through the Underground Maze, unless you have to do a quest to get it. (the biting plant flower should, the kokka claw should not)  The Hidden Village should probably be gone to by Leaf Butterfly instead of through Lava Caves, then you could exit downward to get What the Thief Lost.  To collect the Jewels of Fire, Wind, and Water, the Mighty Fish Food is a must.  The 3 locations for that are the Masakari River, Ol' Pond, and the room in the mansion with the pink pipe that you can come from the Wobbly Wharf through.  I think the Jewel of Wind can come in handy just to move throughout the game, so be sure to get that asap.

[more coherent tips will come soon, these are just brain meanderings :/]

Segment 7, up, segment 8 on it's way.

I reach the Masakari Jungle 4 minutes faster than I had ever before. Cheesy

UPDATE: Segment 8 is up, do not expect any more updates for some time, no.  Good news, however, I need only shave off two minutes to reach my goal of 40:00 at my final save point.

ANOTHER UPDATE:  I moronically did not bother to watch my 7th segment before uploading it, then noticing from a comment that it stops midway.  I don't need to rerecord, I just need to reupload it.
Sorry for lack of responses: on holiday...

I shall check the vids now!
