I sent an email to Mike on the first, no word back yet.  Writing author's comments now.
I really don't think there's going to be much improvement on Tomba 2!'s route, it is so linear.
With the 100% however, I could use a hand tweaking.

Please verify this quick!
Registered after ~4 years of lurking to volunteer to verify this run, I did a really good route plan a while back but my PS was in storage and emulator runs aren't accepted, so I'm really excited!

I had a route for 100%, I'll see if I can dig it up. On an emulator I did it at roughly 2 hours in ~32 segments.

Important thing to remember for 100%, Pump Rocks are EVERYWHERE. God I hated those things, you'd miss one and ugh. Everything else but the race is easy.

Looks like the next step will be a 100% or an SS. Does your run qualify as low% by the way? You don't really benefit from doing any of the extra quests so any pure speed run should by default be a low% I'd think, depending on whether they count vitalities in a low%, don't remember if those are all avoidable.
It isn't low% as he solves "A Hungry Monkey" amongst other things.

Were you referring to a 100% for 1 or 2? I can help for 1, but I need to play through 2 a couple of times first.

And I also hate the pump rocks, Aulirophile.

Ahh, well there you go then. A Hungry Monkey is just so necessary I never even thought about it, first time I played the game I missed it and walking takes forever.

100% for 1, I never even got a 100% in 2 because of tram racing. :-( Stupid tram. I never really liked it anyway so speedrunning it would drive me insane.
OK, looked over my old events list and played the first ~30 minutes of the game (so much fun!). Can't believe I forgot Hungry Monkey was optional. Ah well.

If I get picked to verify it, one of the people picked I should say, I think I'll actually play each segment as he's doing it. That'll help me remember everything and give me a good handle on if the run really is fast. If it is around an hour should only take me 2-3 to verify it.

Still excited! I think my 100% is on my old computer and that HDD is inaccessible atm, but I'll see what I can remember after I do some playing.

Remember, if you are chosen to verify, you must remain anonymous until the run is posted.
My next speedrun is Tomba 2, any%, btw.

Not as exciting, I hate Tomba 2. I know I have to remain anonymous IF I'm selected, but I haven't said I've been selected or not, which is about as anonymous as I can be... just saying I'm hopeful, because I like the game and would like to see a legitimate run and I really do think I'd be a good verifier.

If and when Tomba 100% rolls 'round, it's gonna be after 2 100%, because I have never gotten the gold medal before.  I have plans for the run, though, if you'd want to see them.

Never? I didn't realize it was THAT hard... granted it takes me an hour, roughly, every time I do it. (One time I got lucky and did it first try!).

And I've been playing Tomba since it came out, go figure.
I am wicked at the trolley game though.  Best gogocart time I get is around 25 second.
THE GAME!!
The trolley game!? Don't get me started!!
I find the racing in Tombi kinda easy. I think it took me ~10 tries before I beat it by 0.2 seconds.

And I'm coming to the conclusion that Tombi > Tombi 2.

Also, slightly off topic: y'know the blank DS cards, can you put PS games on them? I'm guessing not, but it's be cool to play Tombi on the go.

There is a way of playing any regular PS game on a PSP, but it is a bit difficult. Google is your friend. Pretty sure you can't do it on a DS.

again off topic, but I have both Tomba's on my PSP.  Grin Grin

I've been told there's enough verifiers, and I'm getting the mailing info next time Mike checks his email.
You won't be disappointed!
Also, Aulirophile, "Where Did I Come From?" doesn't need solving. It's not that I like proving you wrong or anything Cheesy

When will you do an SS, RJWaters (you really need to have consistent display names...) for Tombi? Will you only do completion rather than 100%, because I might be tempted to go for anything that you leave over.

When did I mention "Where Did I Come From?"?  Huh?

EDIT: Ah, you're talking about other stuff he did that disqualifies it as low%, not stuff I mentioned. Right. Yeah, having played through it again real quick a lot of the quick optional quests open up enough CWs that not doing them would be silly. I remember it now.

Plus, I don't do the mission "where did I come from?" in this run.  I should have, but didn't, leading to no charity wing-ing where there once was in Trick Village.

Not doing a SS, ever, nuh uh, no way.  The main reason I do so many segments is to get it as close to perfect as possible.  Tomba can't be done as well as it should in a SS, but you're welcome to try.  The route shouldn't be any different, unless you've found an improvement.  130 quests + SS any% + SS 130 quests are all yours for the time being, I'm moving on.
Need a break from that x-mashing.
That reminds me: I found a new, incredibly quick way to skip text, which you might think is due to a turbo controller.  I figured it out about 1/3 of the way into the run, and I'll probably have to do a video showing it's not a turbo controller.
Is it something like holding O and mashing X like crazy? I normally do something to the effect.

Any% SS looks like a possibility. I'd need to practice each boss a lot and practice getting through the lava caves quicker than I normally do. Other than that, I expect I would have to memorise the route and become even more accustomed to how Tombi plays.

I wish it was that simple.
It's one of the few times my freakishly long/tough fingernails come in handy.  It's like sort of scratching the back of my nail across and back and across and back (etc) over the x-button rapidly by twitching (and exhausting) my entire right arm.

IF you do a SS, key areas to practice are the Mansion, Lava Caves, Phoenix Mountain (not so much), And definitely the Masakari Jungle.  A run killer will be Mushroom Forest.  Memorize your route for Trick village, and you should practice dodging the fish in it.

I've written my author's comments, sending in the discs tomorrow. (Bleeping postal service)

I also started my Tomba! 2 run.  I'm up to the Water Temple, but this run is sort of sloppy, not for SDA, for Youtube maybe.
Water Temple? D'oh, you've spoilt the fact that there's a water temple.

(If you haven't guessed yet, a) I'm being sarcastic b) I haven't had much time to play.)

Also, let me just say that the controls for the 3D bits (Circus Town etc.) are poor, and downright awful when controlling a wheel-barrow or ball...
