Nice update for people that need to know.

Also, just playing through Tombi 2 a bit more; just beat the evil ice pig and looking for harp parts. It seems to be getting more fun, but it's a shame it doesn't evoke nostalgic memories like Tombi still does.

Also, for your Tombi 2 run, using save-warps via death is advisable. Just a note in case you hadn't taken this into account.

I don't use actual deaths, but I do use 'falling into water w/o pig suit' cause it takes only a health away.
THE GAME!!
I wouldn't mind doing an Any% Tombi! 2 run myself but I'm terrible at the Deep Forest (you know the whole puzzle thing), otherwise I'd be cool with it. Oh well, I can always give it a though once I finally finish my Klonoa speedrun.

I'm thinking about closing this topic and opening the Tomba! 2 one.  I'd love some competition.  This game is so easy to plan an any% route for, it's criminal.  If you'd do any%, I'd itch to get on that 100% I've been putting off for 3 months.
How is that Klonoa run going?  Heard on gamefaqs a Tomba! fan would like the game, but I've never heard of it till recently.
THE GAME!!
The Klonoa run is doing alright. As you may have noticed already, the project has been halted until I get a capture card. I know I could just DVD record but I think it would be too far to send (me being in NZ and all).

As for Tombi! 2, I could always give it a shot.

I didn't know you were from NZ, rockin'.  I hear they've got nice rocks there.

Should you do a run of Tombi 2, keep in mind Baron isn't worth getting, I didn't get the fastest pants-only the first upgrade, you shouldn't need more than 15 segments.
My segs are:
1)start-underground mine
2)underground mine-ranch area
3)ranch area-donglin forest
4)donglin forest-the deep forest
5)the deep forest-water temple
6)the water temple-the water temple (w/ pig suit, white key, 2 harp parts)
7)rest of water temple+ice pig
8)water pig
9)ghost pig
10)fire pig
11)earth pig
12)last pig

but I might split up 5 into two segments.
THE GAME!!
To be honest, I don't actually like NZ. I have my reasons. And that's why I use PAL games because of where I live. Tongue
Still in Water Temple, due to not being able to find one piece of the harp (don't tell me!)

I want to try and help as much as possible, and I'm guessing harsh critiquing is the best I can do. Watch me be harsh.

Are PAL and NTSC different categories?  Huh?

I'm sorry about my *excessive* segmentation, but I make up for it with some pretty flawless Tomb-ing.

Considering a SS of Tomba! 2 after the 100%s.

Note to verifiers of my Tomba! run: The end of the Haunted Mansion segment is missing the actual process of saving, it cuts out when I fly to my saving point.  I had talked on the forum about it: http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=other;action=display;num=1190078851

Yes, PAL and NTSC are different categories. This is simply because the PAL version is about 15% slower than the regular NTSC version.

So, let me get this straight: when you get to the black and white bit, if you save, you can't do any events you've missed? Please tell me that isn't so...

Oh, and if you haven't already guessed, I've completed the game, so can try and help you out now.

Are you posting practice segs on YouTube like before. I know it already says 2/12 segs at the top of the page.

Edit: also, now that I've come to look at your segments plans, it seems you're gonna have some long segments compared to Tombi! Less margin for error, right? I can see the Mining Town and Circus town areas getting annoying.

About the b&w, yes.  Once it's b&w, there's no going back.  If you overwrote the color-still save, you're burned.

I'm now using re-recordable DVDs, I deleted my practice runs off of the disc to record my real one.  I would be willing to post cutscene-less, music-dubbed segments on youtube (to encourage SDA-anticipation).

The mining town was a very annoying segment.  It was originally two (split after entering the town), but it felt wimpy.  Same with the Kujara ranch, split at the ranch summit; and with the Donglin Forest, split at the laughing/crying forest and deep forest.  The clown circus used to be its own seg.  I wish the pigs were faster, so they wouldn't be their own, for optimization's sake.

I am having a tough time not dying in the Kujara segment..friggin giant ice pigs.

Oh well, I have an excuse to play through again...
THE GAME!!
The Giant Ice Pigs are quite annoying. At least it's one of the only hazards in a speedrun, maybe except for the Deep Forest (the puzzle and having to swing through without the bloody Squirrel Suit!!).

with dvd you can send the data over the internet.

I do use the bloody squirrel suit through the Deep Forest, it's ultimately faster with it + good grappling.  As for the puzzle...it couldn't be more straightforward.  My hitch in the run right now is the brown "on fire" ghosts in the forest playing keep-away when I need to be going fast.
I hate them too.

I disliked the Deep Forest in general.

Meh, I lost a bunch of notes I wrote up for a 130 Tombi run. It kinda pales in comparison to the lost coursework though...

SS 130 run would be terribly bad. I could see me doing the Gold Medal bit about 10 times.

I'd like to see your route when you've got one.  Wink

I've uploaded a theft-proof Youtube video of segment one.

Oh, so you changed you mind with the "bloody" Squirrel Suit? Well I suppose it's more sensible for the run.
two rows of links on main page pretty nifty
It's actually faster because it eliminates unnecessary grappling and backtracking to get on the seesaws.  The only reason it was used in the first place was it is slow to climb down the ladder/jump down with the suit on.
100% will be cool. It'll serve as a walthrough in parts for me :p

Shame about the 4 segs. *stupid machines screwing us over*
