I seriously am reconsidering speed running.  My DVD recorder just ruined the disc with my 4 segments on it, and I'm not going to start over.  I'm moving on to 100%, though.  I never ripped the 3rd or 4th segs off the disc, so I can only upload seg 2 (once WMM stops erroring).  This probably won't be done until '08.

if the data is still on the disc you can get it off with something like isobuster. otherwise you can send it to me and i'll do it.

I think the disc is entirely worthless at this point.  It had done it with some other discs before and those don't read on my computers.

As for progress with the 100%, I'm fine-tuning the route now.
THE GAME!!
One day I may do an Any% for Tombi! 2 myself. Don't worry. Tongue
I'm guessing that RJWaters won't be replying cause he 's giving thanks. Me and you, Laguna, have perfectly good excuses to not be!

Anyway, if I were to run Tombi, it would be in a seperate category regardless due to it being PAL, right?

I'm thinking of an any%, 130 and an SS of Tombi possibly over Christmas. Basically, that's when I'll have loads of time, with no pressure from school.

Yeah, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving and I believe nobody outside North America does.

If you were running the PAL version then yes, SDA would consider it a seperate category. Check games like StarFox 64 (Lylat Wars) and Super Mario 64 and there's your proof. Smiley

If my Klonoa speedrun went on SDA and somebody else used the NTSC version to run it, then my run would remain as it is PAL.
RJWaters, regarding 100% route planning:

Have you devoted a single segment for each of collecting leaf butterflies, filling your green bar and filling your blue bar?

It seems the most logical thing to me, but I ahve a nagging feeling there's a better way to do it (we all know how your red bar can be filled with the mighty fish food mission).

I'll see how much I can plan. I'm very interested in seeing your route.
two rows of links on main page pretty nifty
Good thing you mentioned the bars.  There is a mighty fish to be collected to max out each bar.
One in the Masakari River, one in the Ol' Pond, and one in the room of the Haunted Masnsion that has a pipe coming from Wobbly Wharf.  I have a segment at the start of the 100 Flower Forest collecting 25 butterflies and learning the dwarf language.
I'll post the route sometime tomorrow.

And to nate, I'm unhappy with the 'optimization' I had gotten in the segments on the disc anyway.  I am not going to settle for less than astonishing, if I ever want to be an established runner here :p
I only knew of the mighty fish in the Ol' Pond. I wasted loads of time killing needlegators to max out my blue bar... Well, that simplifies it a lot.

Thoughts, improvements, worries, suggestions?
Great route. Hard to do in places, but great. Better than my old route, anyway.

Not 'gut reaction' improvements. I'll have to look more in depth later, and test out the route (non-speed running) to see how it feels.

I'd be worried purely about triggering "Where the barrel Rolls" so early, as I find it difficult without Funky Parasol. I'm not sure how to do it without.

I'll see how it goes.

How does the Funky Parasol help with that???
I probably do need to break up some of these segments -- too hard for perfection.

UPDATE: Re-worked the route, 28 segments.  I wish some difficult moments were spaced apart further, so there will be many short segments when they could have more stuff.
Any updates on publish-ment? (I can make up words too!)

I wanna see the run!

This is only the case if the PAL and NTSC versions have differences that affect the timing of a run. The usual culprit is PAL versions playing more slowly due to bad/lazy handling of the slower PAL TV refresh rate, but this is not present in all games, and I don't think it's in Tomba!.
I has been wondering if there in fact was any slow down between PAL and NTSC for Tombi, and hadn't noticed any from the YouTube vids and my own playing.

Unless you're going off the Tomba! 2, you can't be entirely accurate off those vids :p

And this should be on the update anytime now.  The Queue says one run is ready, I think it's the Spyro 120%, though.

How do you have 120%?

Good to know it should be up soon, at any rate.

There's a secret level in Spyro 1. And that secret level gives you 20 extra %.
THE GAME!!
I don't think i'll be running Klonoa now. I may get back to it in the future, but it's bloody hard (yes, easy game but hard run). So i'm gonna try out Tombi! 2. I would try the original but I don't actually have it so 2 it is. I might do a trial run first and see what would fit into every segment. There's no way i'm trying SS. So just so you guys know, i'm gonna try it!
I had been considering Klonoa as a SS, possibly 100%. Seriously, it's really quite easy, and I think it's very much doable.
It just occurred to me that in a 100% you're supposed to get "anything that increases the characters power." For instance in Zelda you need to get all HCs. In Tomba! I imagine you'd need to get all the vitality +s, and those aren't in your current route.

That route is more like an all events completed route, which would be counted as a separate category from 100%.
I asked this question way back, and Waters was under the opinion that they weren't needed.

I'm guessing we should ask mike or someone if this is necessary. It seems a bit odd to collect all of them.

By this logic, all of the weapons need to be collected too.
two rows of links on main page pretty nifty
I think that getting all the items the game doesn't keep the tracks of aren't necessary in a game that has a clear 100% goal, such as Tomba!
Same with Tomba! 2-I'm not going to get the Coal Mine Bell or all of the Magic Wings, they don't add to the 100%.
THE GAME!!
I may get back to Klonoa, but maybe sometime in the future.

Anyway, this is a part of my current plan for Tombi! 2.

SEGMENT 1
Help Kainen with the fire, get the crabs, save at the beginning of the pipe area.

SEGMENT 2
Remove all cappers, free Charles from mud, get Hammer and rescue Gran, save at beginning of Kujara Ranch.

SEGMENT 3
Get Santa's sack, get the green key for the squirrel clothes, get the kujara energy, find the three kujaras, save at beginning of Donglin Forest.

SEGMENT 4
Defeat the ghost monster, get the grapple and turbo pants, save at beginning of The Deep Forest.

Now that's all I have so far, I may mix Segment 4 with the next Segment, but how's that so far?
two rows of links on main page pretty nifty
Those ARE my first 4 segments, lol.  Well there's a lot more to them then what you listed, but these are doable without head explosions/feelings of "Could I do more in this seg?"

Except I don't get Turbo Pants in my route.  I'm not sure if I should.
