Funnily enough, I literally ust bought this game yesterday off eBay, in interest of running it. As soon as it arrives, I'll try to provide as much help as I can
However, there is the small matter of it being a pre-release version of Tombi (meaning that it is the version used by a games magazine to review it). I'll have to ask elsewhere if my game would be legal for running...
Well, I realized that isn't much of a problem anymore. I only need wings up until Baron, which I'll heal after getting the 10,000 year old key and the Jungle pig bag.
Right now, I would be surprised to get sub 45 mins, but I hope sub 50.
As for charity wings, I only need them up until Baron, which is after I learn to swim. So I'll be collecting 8 along my way, two from the 100 flower forest, two from charity square, one from the chest in Mushroom forest's background, and one from the chest in the dwarf nurse's hut. I will use/collect these whenever it would save the most time.
Well, since I haven't ran the game (or played it through for a while) I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but thought sub 1 hour was possible.
I'll be happy to verify when the time comes: not sure what rules govern verifiers, though...
Edit: Are you going to do the red + blue quest? If I remember correctly, if you complete it, you travel much faster until you next lose a life; would it be worth going out of your way to do this?
It's been a whiel since I played the original Tombi! but I'd say around an hour, maybe over, maybe under.
I think it's definitely going to be under an hour. I'm at Trick Village around 32 minutes, and that is nearly the end of the game. [with the Red, Navy Blue, Blue, Yellow pigs still to beat]

No, this task is far too unrewarding. Gotta get sad, go all the way to the Leaf Slider, and actually do the mission. There is actually hardly any time where you are going straight just running to utilize this power, and it's gone after a death. This will also require a healing mushroom, cause you can't die to rid the sadness.
I'll try a runthrough collecting it, and see if it improves my time, but I doubt it.
Ok, finally ready to show some progress. Terrible quality, lots of lag, no sound, some tilt on the camera, but they're here! http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=RJWaters2 Tomba! speedrun segments.
There are only the first 4 segments as of now, and I think the fourth will be split into two segments as it is long and rather sloppy.
Now there are four segments up. Read the descriptions for my take on what went down. And as you can see from the vids, there has been a change in segmenting.
The first segment is the same. In the second segment, I stop after getting the Blue pig bag. The third has me entering to Charity Square to fly there later, and ends in Haunted Mansion, when I am repairing the pump. (This segment I need a lot of luck from Phoenix Mountain on) The 4th segment will become 4th and 5th, splitting before the Green evil pig fight.
I'm hoping to get the actual run started by August, but I'm on a week vacation 1st week of August, and will need some time to get my skill back to perfection. :shoot: :shoot:
I hope to have more videos up by Monday, though. Have you had any luck running the game?
I've also updated the video information for the first two segments, check it on out.
