1) Director account on Youtube allows you to upload videos longer than 10 minutes.

2) Do you plan on running Anniversary when you finish this ?

For #1, what Cortez said.

After TRL, I'm back to TR1 (although, let's just say there could be a change of plans for that run). After that I'll probably not speedrun for a bit since there's other stuff I need to do first. So I don't know whether I will try TRA at some point.

Nepal in 4:44: (removed, better version below)

It's all pretty straightforward for most of the first half (I could have probably jumped quicker on a few of the jumps but it might not even make a difference).

The Mercs are by far the hardest part, with about five shooting you you have pretty much no chance of getting through without being knocked over or killed on hard, so I have to thin them out a little. I could have probably just let the grenade do the job rather than shoot one with a shotgun though. I was going to use a gas tank thing to get straight to the second ledge, but that makes it even harder and I realised it doesn't even seem to make a difference. You can grapple earlier, but it only seems to be possible without a lot of repositioning if done from the "proper" place. I intentionally didn't jump right to the bottom of the slope at the cave entrance, as I needed to save health for the ice.

The ice is the biggest mistake in the run, I didn't realise I had an extra medikit from the fight so I ended up waiting about 3-4 more seconds than I could have (you need to wait about 3-4 seconds on hard whatever you do, unless you somehow got here with three medikits).

The gold box trick is extremely easy to screw up (both pulling it up and putting it on the plate), and this is pretty much the fastest I've managed it.

I did try a bit to remove that medikit mistake (and perhaps some other tiny optimisations), but even if you survive the Mercs without dying or losing too much health (getting an extra one in this run was a 1/100 thing) there's still the annoying gold box thing which can easily end up making it much slower. So I decided to go with this one.

So now there's just the end, which is unfortunately a luck-fest. I wonder if I can get sub-55.

If you mean the crate alone, this is pretty much the fastest I could get it (especially after the rest of the level), and pulling it from further away does nothing except make it even easier to get wrong. It would be good if there was some consistent way to do it though (I would definitely redo if there was some way to ensure it got up fast).
give me your eyes!!!
Box puzzle! That was excellent! It's an 'it's so crazy it just has to work' sort of thing.

Too bad about the medkit, but it was chancy anyway, great Nepal run!

BR may be down to luck, but I'd still like to see your strategies as I had a few for doing it on hard, though you have to have some fairly advanced ones just to survive.

Although if it's luck then there's a strange glitch that stops Fluffy isn't there? I know nothing other than that.
What's wrong with the audio ? I can hear some really strange noises. First I thought I'm ill or sth, but I heard that in England too and maybe other else. Check out 4:56. It's like some girl talking and I don't think it's Lara.

Oh shit. After listening more I think I can hear my brother in it, apparently the microphone is picking things up and being recorded despite the fact I'm using the speakers. I guess I'll redo Nepal for that, how much is it in England though (that's the first time I had them, or it may have been Kazakhstan)?

Edit: I just watched England and don't hear it at all there, if it is there it's drowned out enough by the other sounds to not be a problem, or disembodied voices fit the ambiance of the level Tongue .

Reran Nepal to 4:41, I decided to forget about the medikit thing as getting through with two is extremely lucky with all the BS at the fight. So this is just a slightly smoother version of before (and hopefully with no mic pickup or whatever it is). Video soon.
Nepal is up now:

WOW!
That shortcut where you jumped down all the way is so damn impressing
how did you find that shortcut?

Run finished; Bolivia Redux in 1:13, final time 54:54:

At the start my goal is to clear the left out then stick towards the right until the end, that seemed to make this fight end very quick 95% of the time, and it's just a case of hoping you aren't wiped out by bugs before the end. Those two times where I fall over with a ton of damage are actually Lara damaging herself with the Excalibur, I thought it might be lasersight shots or something, but after being knocked all manner of directions (nowhere near enemies) I've worked out it's some really annoying bug, and it's the major cause of death here.

The idea of the boss to keep the beast in stunlock, this requires near-perfect timing (it's pretty much within a few frames) and tons of luck. As the end shows you can theoretically keep it stunned the whole fight, but the chance of that happening seems near non-existent.

I may see if I can improve this depending how I feel, but I'm sick of getting randomly wiped out by bugs, and if I do this at least shows the idea behind the fight.

Edit: This is final, I did runs that appeared faster yet were slower; even if you get the boss better the first battle can slow you up a lot, and this seems to be the best balance I managed. Did I mention that there's all manner of crap that can block Excalibur shots, and that sometimes they can go THROUGH people and not hurt them?
give me your eyes!!!
That was... I'm sure I never managed to even fire Excalibur that fast... and stalling Fluffy like that is amazing when I think of my tactics, which consisted of jumping around and constantly firing until I got lucky. It was surreal watching so many hits connect like that, fantastic.

This run is certainly a worthy addition to your Tombrunning legacy, all-round brilliance throughout every arduous trick. Thanks for making! I hope I have the ability to at least steal one Anniversary level though... hope it doesn't take as long to get some interest as Legend did (the curse has lifted!)

What do you think :P?

Actually, in that regard the curse has struck in some form; my internet connection keeps going on and off, meaning I wouldn't be able to upload to SDA very well, but, based on experience, it should fix itself in a few days.
Since AjAX's SoF run is encoded, there is about 6 gigs free on Tombrunner FTP, so if you are interested in uploading the whole run there instead of slow torrents, PM me.

And congratz beating this game under 1 hour .)

My internet connection has started working properly again now. I realise it wouldn't really matter anyway since uploading to SDA on torrents means an unstable connection wouldn't lose any progress in terms of uploading. It'll probably be available for verification soon.

I've improved Bolivia Redux by two seconds (to 1:11), so now the final time is 54:52. I may as well just wait until the run is encoded and uploaded rather than show it now.

I still wasn't happy about Bolivia Redux, so I redid it again and managed to get 1:02 (54:43 final time). I'm definitely done with it now (this was perfect up until the end, where it got free on the last hit, but I only lost a few seconds at most to that, plus through a fluke the finisher looks badass Smiley ). I'll definitely upload this one.

Edit: Video:

This is a combination of pretty much the fastest Merc fight I've had with the fastest beast fight I've had, so, yeah Smiley .

FUCK! I've just found that the Bolivia source file got deleted despite my measures to make sure this wasn't a problem. The curse has me Smiley .

I could do (and improve) Bolivia alone and submit it with the rest as an add-on to the run since equipment doesn't carry over in any way that matters, but then the game clock won't match up, which I don't like the idea of. Or somehow match up the times perfectly Smiley .

I'll focus on the TR1 SS for now, then I'll think about what to do; blitzing through TRL again hopefully won't be much of a problem now I know what I'm up against, although I can only see myself improving this run by about 45 seconds max (probably closer to 30).

Edit: There's still a ray of hope; I already had all the Bolivia qualities encoded but deleted them a day or two ago when a new version of anri-chan came out (as I wanted the encoding to be consistent), and have done very little to that HD since. In other words, what's the best file/folder recovery programs around (preferably freeware, but it doesn't matter if it isn't Wink )?

I might even be able to get the source back if the recovery program is good enough.

Ewil: 2007-08-06 07:45:29 am
From my experience, if you delete any bigger file with shift+del (instant delete), it's either gone or damaged. It actually hapenned to me yesterday with TR4 run. I deleted one segment by mistake, nothing was going with the hdd, ran Active File Recovery immediately (not free) and the file wasn't there Sad

The best free recovery program is probably PC File Inspector Recovery.

MMAN: 2007-08-22 01:11:53 am
I've decided what I'm going to do; I'm simply going to throw myself at Bolivia until I "brute force" a run with an identical time, it seems the easiest way overall, and it lets me accomplish that casually (as opposed to being committed to the game when I'm already doing the TR1 SS and SOF on Unfair). I think nothing carries over, although it would be a good idea to end with at least two medikits just in case (the Peru bike ride evens things out from there)

Of course, since all I need is a run with a time of 5:54 anyone else is free to try (as long as it's 640x480 at 60FPS and with the beginning/end handled the same way I do).
