I kinda doubt that it will work that easily on console, otherwise it would have happened to someone a long time ago. You really need the mousewheel to get that special jump I think

On a different note. I've been asked multiple times if there is a Tomb Raider speedrun leaderboard and since nobody ever created one: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtT--D9L48PCdDQ0UDZxYS0ySlJSSU1hRGRuaTVqTUE&usp=sharing
If you wanna add your time pls send me a pm with your time plus video link either on twitch or SDA.
Had the almost perfect run, except I fell down that chasm after the treewalk. Unfotuneately my pc froze at the start of the big oni battle :'(. I hope the run is still kind of valid because I dont know if i will ever get this time again.l

Don't worry, we will find new skips soon enough so you can sub 1 Wink
Hehe I'm waiting :P.

I looked into the Whitman walk skip... it just saves around 20s but should be possible to do in runs in the near future.
There's also a pretty nice oob after the radio tower zip line but I'm almost certain that the plane crash cutscene is needed to proceed so the fuel stuff cant be skiped Sad

Nice oob. Where is this Whitman walk skip you are talking about?
Unfotuneately I don't use my best set up here. Also you can skip lighting up the torch if you jump on the wall and over the debris right next to the path.

(MoXxi got it first)

Eeeh that's awesome. But I am sure I already tried that, I need to try it again to see if it's me who is very bad or just the console.
So Artistic, is your setup consistent ? Because as far as I remember, most of the time I get pushed back in bounds. I didn't try to jump like you though.

And about that intro oob... I looked into a bit. Tried to figure out how it works. And I'm pretty sure this isn't a frame perfect glitch : I actually use a script to press jump 120 times/sec. Conclusion : sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's like 20% consistent with the script.

So it must be something else. PC hardware maybe ?
Yea the pushing down makes it a lot more difficult. But with a set up and the jump it really is not too bad at all.

Weirdly enough since I have my new mouse which is the same one I broke I get the intro oob pretty freaking consistently. First or second try is quite common now. Also I feel like at the beginning I almost couldn't get it and the more I tried the more I got it. So it is not completely random. What's also interesting: When I try to go oob I get graphical issues sometimes (reload checkpoint fixes it again). Once my PC even went beep beep beep. So it seems like the glitch is really really deep :). I'd love to try that on another PC to learn more about how it works.
A package of recent discoveries:

First the Set up for the Whitman Skip: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027815 Note that this is very frame rate specific. The general points I aim at stay the same. But you have to find a spot on the grass for yourself that works out consitently.

Now something new small and easy that actually works: Tutorial Climb Skip: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027786

Those are new strats for the big fight that make it quite fast without grenade launcher: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027918

OoBs:

Sam's Pack: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027840 It seems that the lower area is not loaded. But quite often in this game when you step close to the inbound area it can actually change the way it looks eg. monastery
Would be nice to have a skip for the first camp fire with all the cutscenes etc.

Plane Crash OoB: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027828 This could save a small amount of time if there is a way down to the river.

Blind Oni OoB: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027852 It seems to be a pain to get it. The whole blind oni building takes up a lot of time. A way to get past it oob would be really sweet.

OoB at falling bell: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027863 The rope climb without ascendor is really annoying. Plus the walkie talkie with reyes takes some time. The problem is it's way easier to go down but we have to get up somehow.
The Dork Knight himself.
The tutorial climb skip is interesting. Do you think that kind of wall climbing trick would work in other areas of the game or is it not worth the effort at this point?
Pretty much the same thing is used for whitman skip, shanty town oob and the oob at radio tower [edit]: the new one after the zip line. It doesn't work everywhere but you should always give it a try.

Nice AB, do you think that climbing skip would be faster to get the pack than the normal way? Saves you doing super slow rope climbing and looks to be faster but I have not tested anything.

Oh also fuck that waterfall. I have no idea what I am doing wrong still. If it's not that hard you would think I would make a little progress in 10+h of trying :/

Even on the first part of the cliff where you start going left you go super fast and make Lara disappear for a bit. I also can not make that happen. Kinda pulling my hair out at this point
I found another small skip unless pewable already found that. It's pretty useless for single segmented i think though. You can skip the slow mo bridge after the first climb by getting the shove up down up down... slide up the river then jump on the rock wall.

For the oobs: Falling bell seems to be the most promising one. There is a checkpoint later on for sure and you can cover quite some ground... but some parts are still missing.

Shanz:
I don't think it will be faster than the rope for the pack.
I'll try to catch your stream then. I feel very confident that you will make it!
FrankerZ
Thanks to Ballistic for finally helping me with the waterfall skywalk. In other news my MMB offically died 2 minutes after I ended my stream. I am blaming the hour I spent trying intro OOB. Kinda sucks as I can't afford a new mouse right now. Will have to bind jump to mouse wheel for the mean time
So I wanted to share a couple of videos of stuff I discovered.

First is an alternative method for doing house skip:
While this isn't faster than the old method, there is a possibility that it works on console, and it also seems much easier.
People who have trouble getting the old house skip to work can try this.
Plus it allows for a new OOB:
So perhaps more can be discovered in the future.

Next is a theoretical pistol skip:
The problem is the enemies automatically detect you when you jump to the path like I did at the end of the video. But maybe something can still come out of this.

And now for an actual new skip that works. The Burning House Skip:
It works but it seems to be very inconsistent. There might be a good setup for it though.
Nice finds Eydass!

A couple of things:

For the oob: There is a place where you can go oob a little later on and all the stuff after the interactive climbing up the cliff cutscene is not loaded.

The theoretical pistol skip would be really awesome indeed! But probably you cant finish the game then (before you get the rope you have to kill 3 guys hanging upside down). Anyway I hope this will turn out to work.

And the most important thing: Those aiming scramble backward stuff works best on a really high framerate. Like 100 is still too low. You wanna have like 150+Fps. Whitman skip becomes a lot lot easier as does new fire arrow skip. Also this suddenly works at spots that never worked out for me before. So I'm actually running on the lowest graphic settings now.

EDIT: So when you look for that stuff, aiming for the floor instead of in the open field will result in a much higher framerate (like 50).
Skipping the first pistol fight and the burning house, using an OOB Artistic discovered:

And of course it's really difficult and works randomly. Unless anyone can figure out a way to get that "melee slide" to work consistently.
Also I'm almost positive you have to trigger the line "Stay back! I'll shoot!" for this to work, which is why I take this large detour in the video.

Wow, what can I say. Now that I understand how it was done this skip blows my mind, you can't make a single mistake or you either die or don't make it up there. I'm actually amazed I was actually able to do it. I guess I will see if I can do it a few more times before I even attempt at doing it in a run

Edit:

Eydas I am 90% sure you get the melee slide (or it's equivalent if you upgrade your melee), if you are between switching directions when Lara's attack animation ends and her recovery animation starts. Therefore mashing as fast as you can or at a set pace so you will always be doing it at the right time are the most reliable ways to pull it off. I'm not sure how many frames you have in that window though, I wouldn't imagine that you have very many to work with.
JustShanz: be 100% sure, it's like that. And it's much easier to make it work on console with a 10/15 seconds of pause buffering and directions switching (without pause i think it's harder than pc, but possible). I used this trick to "climb" inclined walls or go back up a sliding slope. Also, as far as i remember, it doesn't  work anymore with the pickleaxe attack (tier2).

I have a question, for pc gamers: do you think it could be possible to get to the rope by taking the 'normal' exit way? I mean, with all the tricks we got here (especially skywalker and melee slide), after earn the pickleaxe upgrade by Roth (i think it's really impossible to finish the game without), go directly to the rope by its exit (the tiny cave with the sliding slope and a Roth cutscene), maybe by starting just after the falling bridge (i went oob there).
I'm maybe wrong, but you've all been able to make crazy things on this game, and i think this could work............unfortunatelly only on pc for now.

Well, last thing, good job everyone!!!!
GoHC: Yes you can go there with skywalking (either skywalk up next to the wolf cave or from the house higher up on the left side of the river with a bird's nest on the roof). But I haven't found any checkpoints so far. Plus finding a big useful skip there or any other place would be a miracle because missing gear is pretty much limiting the speedrun at this point.
Wow, if there's a way to get this slide in a run, that's really really good!
Also, congratz JustShanz on the skip. Looking forward to seeing your runs in the future!

And now, for those who have trouble with monastery skip (i.e. everyone):

Works great at 150 FPS. Works okayish at 120 FPS (at which I was recording). Works not-so-well at 100 FPS or less.

What I'm still hoping to find is some sort of 'shortcut' that lets you get to the rocks above without having to go all the way back to the beginning.
If that's found then this new method could even save time over the old one.

TAB: ho, well, so damn bad...,cause you're right, even a checkpoint could be good but not enough, we need the rope (the fire striker is not needed for the rest of the run, i think)

oh, by the way, i don't know if you're aware, but your 1:44:26 run has been french commented (in january):

a great thing to grow the community up Smiley

Did a console player already did that: http://www.twitch.tv/theartisticballistic/c/4027786 ?

I can do it a little but I can't go all the way up and I am slow like a turtle. Even the game looks slow now, dunno why.

Can't do the intro skip too, wall is way to far and I am always eating the ceiling. Hmm I really hate this game now!
As promised, a shortcut for the new monastery skip:

Now I'm not sure if it saves time or not over the old method. Might be even.
