I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hello everyone

I'm surprised nobody was thinking about a speed run of this reboot game.

I just finished the game today and I'm sure it can be done in less then 2 hours if we focus on the main story.
Every cut-scenes are skippable, customisations in the camp are fast, the game itself is not very hard.
Seems to have some glitch too.

It will be interesting to see what speedrunners can do in the next months. Smiley
Thread title:

Hey guys, This is my 3rd thread ive made in this section so sorry if it feels like spam >.<

But I am going to be running the new Tomb Raider game and thought Id put it up here.
Ive already kind of got a base time and splits (which are generally in 20 minute intervals), around 3:30:00 - 4 hours. Im in the stage of routing the game and seeing how much salvage I need to make the run easier and also what skills and weapon upgrades to buy.

I was just wondering if anyone else will be running this game as I think it could make for an interesting watch.

Anyways, I hope to see more people run this.

Cheers.

Doing my first run to get a proper base time, come check it out. http://www.twitch.tv/imrukus

my first run of this game was RTA 3:26:00 - note this is note a precise time as i accidently hit R and reset my clock 2:35-6:00 in so we just added the last 3 splits which totaled 47 mins and just added it to the time we think we had. and again we made it 00 seconds just too make it easy on ourselves. So 3:26:00 is more of a rough base line on how long the game takes to run.

I will be running it again tomorrow to get accurate time for over all and each split.

I did have a couple rough parts where i died several times so I know if i just play smart I can beat this time.

Big thank you too the 30+ people that showed up to watch (I barely get 10!) You guys where all awesome and it was fun chatting to you guys and gals.
I'm definitely interested in seeing this!  I'm enjoying the work you're doing on MGR:R (and actually helped me tune a few things with watching strats).

Which version are you playing?

Thanks man Smiley ill still be doing more MGR gunna beat my 1:23:something record soon (maybe this weekend) just to show that I did get that time and that I'm not just saying I did. So watch out for that Cheesy

Right now I'm just running NG Normal as combat can be brutal in this game if try catch you off guard, eventually I may run NG Hard though Smiley If your interested in watching I'm going to be doing another TR run tonight from round 8-8:30pm AEST (Australian eastern standard time) onwards, probably finish round 11:30-midnight at http://www.twitch.tv/imrukus
Hopefully ill see you pop in Smiley
That's a tad early for me (US, EST) but I'm usually up that late when I don't have to work the next day.  I'll probably stay up tonight to watch.
I was actually thinking the same thing..
you might want to go there to discuss about it.

Just did first full run through. Did it on Normal because no way could I work out the rest of the yolo strats I need for Hard. 3:07:50 RTA. Key points include losing 5 minutes between Summit Forest and reaching Alex. Also 30+ minute finale, really nasty finish.

I'll continue running on Normal for now, the combat is just stressful enough Smiley Hard mode full runs will come once I work out how the hell to tackle Stronghold.

Hey Guys, I really liked this game bought it on release and really enjoyed playing. 3 Hours seemed pretty low for this game at first so I was curious and had to try it myself : P. I played through the game twice and just now finished a run of 2:51:32, however the game crashed at the end and I didnt count the time it took me to restart the game and load the file etc. I was pretty lucky I was able to finish the run in the first place because after the crash the game showed me "Corrupted Data" and I was like T_T but the game still managed to load the savefile correctly (maybe it makes a backup internally not sure). I played on Normal too because I didnt wanna risk getting killed 24/7, didnt feel to much different then "hard" to me tho.

Obviously had also tons of mistakes etc, you loose so much time in some spots where it is easy to die : X.

I also want to introduce some techniqs I found, havent tested too much with it yet.

Lets start with a skip that actually saves time:

The video was recorded on a completed file so it might be hard to figure out where this is. Basic when you find the old man on your way to the temple. You would jump over there and try to climb on a latter but it breaks and a big fight starts... you can avoid that fight by simple jumping there, its not that hard but you have to figure out where to stand etc.

Now follwing 2 not useful things, but still interesting and maybe useful in other places.

This video show how to use the melee attack to climb slopes, you can actually make it up there after the bridge broke like this, however map not loaded.

This skip would save tons of time but the level isnt loaded at the end : X

Have fun trying these things out yourself ^^.

Ooh, interesting stuff. Now for the arduous task of working out what old man while going to which temple you are talking about. I'm sure that melee climb has some obvious use somewhere, just haven't picked up on it yet. Going to grind out the finale a little, hopefully snag myself an easy sub-3 at some point.

I know I know discription of where it is not too good : P lets try again, there is this area with the helicopter where you get the zippo and ram a heated arrow in your wound. After you cleared that area and opened the gate you go into the area mentioned and there is this old man on the tower (man I am bad with names... I am happy I remember Lara's name).. you skip the fight over there, and continue to the transport system to make your way over to him.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
His name is Grim, and he's awesomely Scottish. Just worked it out, was about to repost asking how the hell this saves time but well there you go. Does it just auto-progress to the next checkpoint?
Also know as L0rdy
Once you hit the next checkpoint you'll get saved there. Not sure where it is tho never died there or anything.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
Well, at least it's a good battle to skip. Not necessarily the longest, but definitely a very slow-paced one. Good stuff Smiley

Uh how the hell did you get up to the starting point without triggering the fight?

By the way, Grim skip strats work a charm. Don't know if you did a run with it, but you find Grim's model just hovering in neutral stance in mid-air near the end of Shanty Town.

So anyway, Normal any% RTA - 2:48:50. Lost a bit of time because the scene refused to skip when I got back with the tools, so I had to go to main menu and reload. Few minutes dropped in Research Lab, and FIVE gat damn minutes dropped in the finale. Getting there. Getting there.

Yes I also have my headset. If I am awake when you are streaming I'll be sure to jump in a call Smiley

I triggered the fight and killed the enemys in the first area so they wouldnt bother me while recording that skip. Even with killing the enemys should still save like 1-2 min if you get it on first attempt, usually you would have to fight  a few waves at the house then the big dude with the shield comes out the door etc.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
No shit there are multiple triggers huh? I figured it was just one continuous fight with proximity determining spawns. So what, kill the first dudes, then hug the wall to stay away from the next area?
Also know as L0rdy
Well you will hit 2 enemy spawn tiggers on the way to the skip no matter what, the third one you'll hit on the attempt of doing the skip : P.
After that you would hit more enmys spawns if you'd climb the wall at the end of that part.

I cant really test it right now since I continued this playthrough to test if I run into something that breaks the game after doing this but didnt seem like you will.

But I think you could try to just leave some enemys alive anyway and go for the jump, not sure if a hit knocks you down the rope or not tho, but in that case you could still let the melee enemys live.
Ganondorf = Donkey Kong LOOK IT UP!!
Oooh yeah, I forgot. When you do the Grim skip does the checkpoint auto change when you get up near the windmill? I got confused and went back a checkpoint after I did the skip, at which point the check was in the proper place up top.

Gosh Lordy first you break DmC even more now you break tomb raider Tongue

Well I have speedrun and broken a lot of games already ^^ not only DmC or Tomb Raider : P.

I recorded a better version of the Grim fight skip since I had to play through the game again to test something anyway:

And the thing that I tested actually turned out well and I found another new skip... however sadly the games savegame mechanics are really annoying... once I found the skip and made sure it'll work the game already hit a new checkpoint and I couldnt record it :(. Will most likely post a video of it tomorrow.
