Hello, I have finished my Splinter Cell 1 run and now I´m a little bit confused. I was summarizing the times from the currenct recordholder and I stopped the timing when you lose control over the character (when the screen becomes green), as discribed in the SDA rules. You can´t move anymore after this so I thought it doesn´t matter if I skip this or not, because it doesn´t require any skills. But I just calculated a total time of 01:34:48 for the current recordholder and his official time is 01:35:00. Does the time until you skip the green "mission complete screen" affect the time? I can´t imagine where else the 12 seconds should be missing in his run. This would be horrible because I would lose totally senseless 26 seconds because of that, I didn´t see any reason to skip this.

The time I got now messured until the screen becomes green is 01:04:02 and I would like to improve one mission for a few seconds to get under 01:04:00 but this wouldn´t be possible if the whole time I didnt skip this "mission complete screen" counts as gameplay time.

There are also 4 missions where I already lost control before the "mission complete screen" appears, because I finished my job and my boss talks a few sentences to me but I can´t move anymore and immediately after this the mission is over. Nothing I press affects the game anymore. If the time would stop here also when I lose control over the character I would get very far under 01:04:00.

Willing to teach you the impossible
I have not looked at the game page yet, but I would ask if the game is measured in game time or is the run segmented? If it is measured in game time, some games round. If segmented, the segment penalty could be in effect.

Another possibility could be the media player. Be sure to do your timing in vdub.

It´s a segmented run, I did as the current recordholder for every mission one segment (10 missions) and there is no ingame timer. I was looking on youtube to see what times he has in his missions. So he got 5 seconds segment penalty and the rest could be the inaccuracy of youtube? It would be really terrible if the rest would be the time he needed to skip this green screen, because I never did this, I thought "I can´t move anymore, so the time stops".

I checked and the run is from 2005 and that's before Mike's time so I don't have a copy of that run lying around. Looking at the gamepage I can see by the seconds being set as "00" to mean either that's some dumb luck to hit it on the spot, or it was rounded up/down. My guess is the latter.
So what I'm doing right now is downloading the run and I'll give it a quick check later today. I'll reply later on with what I got.

Also is every mission a standalone mission or does weapons and stuff carry over?

Thanks alot for your effort! All missions are standalone missions, nothing you did in a previous mission will affect the next one. As soon as the screen becomes green you can´t move your character anymore. But there are some exceptions:

-in the trainingsmode will be a videosequenz before this green screen appears
-in the Oil Refinery mission I can´t move anymore as soon as I pick up the briefchase
-in CIA HQ I can´t move anymore when the two guys are talking to me
-and in the Abattoir mission I can´t move anymore when I killed Grinko (my target person) and two mercenaries start a conversation about running away because their boss is dead

In this missions there will be a conversation and nothing I press affects the game anymore and after it the mission is immediately over, but these times seem to be counted to the effective time of the record holder.

Well the timing should continue all the way until the mission is actually over-over, as in "done" and that's it, load the next mission or mission complete screen.
Example, segment 7 ends at 8:52.933 even though you just need to talk to someone once you land behind the wall. Until that "loading" screen appears, it gets timed.
Another one at segment 5, you talk to two guys for 10 seconds before it kicks in the loading screen, those are counted as well. Anyway like I said, I'll give you a time later on today, so don't worry Smiley
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
I will not ask to much, this is the job for IRD. But I have 1 question.

CotySA -> is your run on the PC system or Console system ?

'penalty' only for PC games with the function to save and load everytime.

I am currently play Rainbow Six and some parts of Splinter Cell. So I need also informations.
Dragon Power Supreme
It's a PC run, and there will not be segmentation penalty since every mission is a standalone.
I AM FUCKED ANGRY
That is cool. no penalty

I had not begin with Splinter Cell, but Rainbow Six has also standalone missions. I think it is the same.

Thanks for your answer, but this would be terrible for my run, even the time until I choose the mission in the menu counts? I never did this as fast as possible, because the rules say "when you gain control over the games character" and "when you lose control over the games character".

But this time in the menu you need to choose the mission can´t be counted in the run of the current recordholder, because his time would be far more than 01:35:00.

Look for example at mission 2 Police Station of his run, does the second he needs to skip this green "mission complete screen" now count or not? He already lost control over the character. First there is a mission complete screen and then the loading screen appears depending on how fast you skip the mission complete screen. This would cost me alot time very senseless, because I didn´t care about being fast choosing the mission in the menu or skipping anything after I lost control over the character. I mean I read the rules before I started and as I said they say something about gain and lose control over the games´character nothing about skipping the menu or the screen when I lost control.

Or your example at segment 5, when you talk for 10 seconds with the two guys. Why does this time count? He isn´t able to move anymore and he can´t affect the game anymore.

I would really be happy if my time gets measured when I gain control until the green screen appears, because that´s what I read in the rules and that´s what I was caring about when I did my run. If the expeptions when I lose earlier control still count as offical time it would still be fine, but the whole time in the menu or the time until I skip a screen where I already lost control would be terrible.
Dragon Power Supreme
No, we're not counting time in the menu, I'm not sure why you think so. I just said I looked at those two missions at the very end of the videos (not in the middle) and told you where each of them ended by SDA timing.

Now I got from Radix all the stuff he had until he handed everything to Mike, so I'm seeing how the previous run was timed. Now I'd time it how I normally do but I work flooded me so I'm too tired right now. Luckily I got the morning clear tomorrow so I'll do so then.

Thanks alot for your effort! Well you said his time in segment 7 ends at 8:52 and I thought you mean 8:52 is the time for the run which would include the time he spent in the menu, so I misunderstood you, sorry.
I watched now all the endings of the missions from the current recordholder and I noticed that he skips the green mission complete screen that fast that it´s hard to notice it if you don´t know the game or sometimes even invisible.

Here is a video, I found on youtube, and at 3:43 you can see this green screen which I mean. I wasn´t sure if you noticed it. I really appreciate you are doing this work for me and there is no hurry.
Dragon Power Supreme
Heh the timing for this one actually ends when the UI disappeared (health etc). In other missions where there isn't one I just stopped when the green screen started coming up.
Anyway, I can tell you I got 1:34:46 for the current run on SDA. The timing differences of 14 seconds is very likely due to when the "end" of each part was chosen but it was pretty good otherwise.
Wow, this are really good news, I was really afraid that I wasted time by not skipping this green screen. Thanks alot for all the effort, you are great! I will soon submit my run. thumbsup

I emailed now the submission for my Splinter Cell run to puwexil. Now I would like to speedrun Hitman 2. I noticed that the current record is on the difficulty "normal". How much slower can a run on "professional" be to get still uploaded on SDA? Is there any rule for this?
Fucking Weeaboo
With difficulties, it's really depending on the game. The best thing to do is not ask SDA staff, but other runners of the game. For some games the times should be close, for others they could have a larger margin.
