Categories:
All Missions: This category completes all of the main story missions in the game, because being able to skip missions in Any% makes the run rather trivial.
Any%: This category only completes main story missions that cannot be skipped, such as the final three missions; because of being able to skip missions, this category is roughly 30 minutes faster than All Missions.
100%: All missions, all unlockables (cars, clothing, etc.), all tracked destructables and gimmicks; everything that's listed at the end of a chapter in the completion screen. No one has really routed this category, for good reason.

Route Basics:
The route for this game is pretty simple and doesn't really need to be learned aside from a few tricks, as it's linear and mission-based. There are a few important notes about the route, though:
- Missions can be selected through the pause menu, this saves time over driving or walking to them
- Coins are an integral part of the route, as you need them to afford cars and clothing for certain missions
- The current coin route isn't optimal at all, so you're welcome to use your own; try to pick up what you can during missions
- Although you need to purchase cars for missions, you're not required to use them for their respective missions.
- You'll want to stick to Mr. Plow for any demolition mission that requires a new, heavy car
- All purchased cars are inferior, aside from Mr. Plow, up until Apu's level - at which point they tend to be better than the defaults
Here's a video of the route in the current WR, by Cookie:

Tricks:

Mission Skip: As a means of letting players skip missions that they're unable to beat, it's possible to skip missions if they're "failed" 7 times; however, restarting the mission through the pause menu qualifies as failing it, making it more efficient to skip most of the missions in the game, except for those that are short enough that the roughly 35 seconds it takes to perform this trick isn't worth it. Not all of the missions in the game can be skipped; those that end chapters and the game can't be skipped. As missing out on missions also means that you miss out on quite a few coins, it's a good idea to use missions that have long timers and can't be force failed as a means of gathering coins.

Cutscene Skip: The pause menu can be used to select missions across chapters, making it possible to skip cutscenes by selecting the next chapter's first mission manually through the pause menu. The next mission unlocks as the "mission complete" text fades out, so all you have to do to get this trick is pause the game at the right time. You can pause rapidly to ensure you get it, or trust yourself with the timing and save a few seconds. If you miss the trick, you're forced to sit through the cutscene. This trick doesn't work on all cutscenes, just the ones at the end of Bart's and Apu's levels.

Car Reset: You can reset your car by pressing R or the shoulder buttons of your controller. This can be used to get away from the cops in a pinch, reset yourself if you're about to crash and lose all of your momentum (or your barrel in the last three missions), and also warp around the level in small increments. On small areas that aren't considered "road", the game will try to reset you on the nearest real road. One important example is the inside of the C. Spanker (the ship in Lisa's / Bart's level); if you reset after entering it's interior from the pier side and reset as you crash into the wall, you'll be reset on the other side of the ship, closer to Krustylu Studios. There are many areas where this can be applied, and not all of them are known yet.

Carl Skip: On "The Fat and the Furious", the last mission of Level 1, push Carl into the power plant before talking to him and starting the mission. This will spawn you behind the wall that normal appears in the power plant, letting you save a ton of time by driving to Mr. Burns' mansion through the power plant, instead of all around Springfield.

Top Enter: Entering your car while standing on top of it skips the entry animation, making it faster to enter your vehicle this way every time.

This topic is pretty barebones right now, but I'll probably upload or post a video of a new route for the game at some point. Just putting this here in case people wonder if the game is being run or have any questions about it.
Thread title:
Don't know if you checked out the existing threads for this game already, maybe they're helpful:

https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/simpsons_hit_and_run.html
https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/the_simpsons_hit_n_run.html
https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/simpsons_hit_n_run_any_ss.html
The first one appears to be the most recent.

IMO, I think a 100% run could be interesting, depending on whether you aim to go around the level to get everything or get everything on the way to each mission.
I've looked at the other threads, and most of them were people saying that they planned to run the game and then disappearing before finishing a run or even a real route. I figured I'd make a thread that's actually helpful for learning the game and is a centralized source of information.

To clarify, there are skippable cutscenes at the end of both of Bart's levels. I just messed it up in my run, which is something I'll fix in future.

New WR: 1:55:57.59. Missed a cutscene skip, but got a decently optimized run on coins and missions. Done until I've got some competition.

The problem with 100% runs is that you need WAY more coins than you collect in a playthrough, even with finding all the collectables. I did a casual run recently, and I had to spend several hours doing wager races to get the coins needed to buy everything.
I'm currently routing 100%, the first 3-4 levels aren't a problem but then the coins start to become a big issue. I'm still finding optimal ways to get coins as fast as possible without having to do the wager races. I made a practice category where you do the story missions, the bonus missions and the street races. My personal best time for that is 3:18.34.40 and I believe sub 3:10 is possible. So with that information, 100% runs will probably take about 4 hours. If I could get a good route for 100%, I will be sure to destroy that category.

Done routing 100%. Will probably take 4:00-4:30. I expect to have to do the last level's medium wager race 38 times. Will stream it this week.

Is level 7's wager race the fastest to repeat?

It's the fastest Wager Race, using Longhorn since it's the fastest mid-tier car.

However, I've come up with a faster way of making money. More laborious, and requires much more concentration.
I just found out that watching all cutscenes is required for 100%. Ugh, another reason why 100% will suck.

Anything to drop the grind. What'd you come up with?

Yeah, cutscenes make up like 10 minutes of the run at least. (Quick YouTube search says 11 minutes exactly.)

I didn't think cutscenes were required. The cutscene plays AFTER the mission is complete, doesn't it? In my test run, I skipped the Bart I cutscene and still had 100%.

The fastest method to gather coins is to get to missions 6-6. Then, kick the 4 boxes/2 venders twice each. This gives 100 coins in around 50 seconds. Mission select to 6-6 and repeat. Concentration required to ensure that you don't accidentally destroy something, since that reduces your speed (destroying vender removes 10, destroying box removes 20).
I'm just posting so I get e-mail notifications on this thread. I'd love to see the progression on this run, keep it up guys (Y)

I'm pretty sure "Movies" count towards 100% when you check the scrapbook, but I don't know if actually watching them is required though.
Also, that coin method is sweet. Mistakes would get less damaging as you go.
Watching cutscenes is required for 100%. I did testing and saw that if you cutscene skip, it wont end up in your scrapbook under "Movies", thus not giving you the whole 100%.

By the way that coin method is awesome, will definitely look into that.
New WR: 1:54:55. Some enormous choking with Lisa's limo and the last autotopsy, but I guess I made up for it with some good missions somewhere. I'm looking forward to seeing this beaten - this run doesn't deserve to stay WR for long.

I also thought cutscenes are required for 100%, but until I can be bothered to try a run and see the result I don't know for sure. If there are any recordings, I'd love to see them.
Honestly, it's about time someone beat my run. It's just been hard to get motivated because of how ridiculous my first two levels are. I'll check back in a while when I can watch the record and give potential timesaves etc.
So we've knocked this down to a 1:48:16, and I'm reasonably sure that we'll be getting at least a 1:47:xx within the next couple of weeks (either from myself or from Bill).

I've also routed 100%, and my best time so far is 4:08:34. That can easily go sub 4h with good play, and my route can certainly be improved. Rough notes are here: http://pastebin.com/6xXT8t5x. I'd be interested to hear any suggestions.

So, first time using a forum, especially this one so apologies if I bugger this up. But I think PS2 or console should be it's own category. I believe I have the single segment any% pal World Record for level 1 on the PS2 Version with 14 minutes, 44 seconds, 69 MS or 14'44"69 [TIME STARTING AT CUTSCENE, not first button input] Wondering if Single segment can become a thing and if someone has beaten that time in PAL PS2? [Video coming soon btw]
TheGlitched64
Well, here be the video as I said. Just looking for feedback or something akin to it. Cheers. Smiley

Why should the console version be a different category? Are there any differences between the console and PC version?

I took a look at your WR for Level 1 and it makes a good impression so far. Still I am unsure about the mission "Office Spaced". Usually runners take the family car to arrive at the Kwik-E-Mart faster, but when I compared your run with the current All Mission% WR, you were actually faster, since you could damage the car faster. Also if you are going for an IL run, then it is not necessary to collect further coins after you have bought the Plow King (You did that during the mission Flowers By Irene, but you did not lose time since you had to wait for the Van anyway).

Keep up the good work! Are you going to run other levels as well?

The main difference is the load times. The load time from the first cutscene to first input is insane when you compare PC and console, and each time you select a mission it is instant on PC, but there is a load time on console, meaning it is easier to run to one of the missions than to load to it. Also, yeah, I use the plow king becuase the time I saved smashing into smithers makes up for the time it takes to get there. I try hit him next to a phone booth so I can quickly switch back.

With the further coins, part of it was accidently hitting things and others were, as you mentioned, times where I don't lose time, like follow missions/

And thank you! I also have the 100% run of level 1 I did that I will post soon and am working on level 2 any%. Not happy with my best time quite yet. Also still have to route the 100% route. Smiley
If nothing goes right, go left
I agree with you there: The loading times between the PC and console version differentiate very much from each other. I remember when Duke Bilgewater and Ciyon were having a race with the All Mission category and Ciyon (He played on console) lost so much time only because of the longer loading times.

Nice to hear that you are going to run other levels too! Also I am interested to see your 100% run of Level 1. If you need any help with the routing, just let me know and I will try to help you as best as I can! My only issue is that I only have the PC version of the game, but it should not be a problem when it comes to routing.

Best of Luck and keep me posted!
