All Missions: This category completes all of the main story missions in the game, because being able to skip missions in Any% makes the run rather trivial.
Any%: This category only completes main story missions that cannot be skipped, such as the final three missions; because of being able to skip missions, this category is roughly 30 minutes faster than All Missions.
100%: All missions, all unlockables (cars, clothing, etc.), all tracked destructables and gimmicks; everything that's listed at the end of a chapter in the completion screen. No one has really routed this category, for good reason.
Route Basics:
The route for this game is pretty simple and doesn't really need to be learned aside from a few tricks, as it's linear and mission-based. There are a few important notes about the route, though:
- Missions can be selected through the pause menu, this saves time over driving or walking to them
- Coins are an integral part of the route, as you need them to afford cars and clothing for certain missions
- The current coin route isn't optimal at all, so you're welcome to use your own; try to pick up what you can during missions
- Although you need to purchase cars for missions, you're not required to use them for their respective missions.
- You'll want to stick to Mr. Plow for any demolition mission that requires a new, heavy car
- All purchased cars are inferior, aside from Mr. Plow, up until Apu's level - at which point they tend to be better than the defaults
Here's a video of the route in the current WR, by Cookie:
Tricks:
Mission Skip: As a means of letting players skip missions that they're unable to beat, it's possible to skip missions if they're "failed" 7 times; however, restarting the mission through the pause menu qualifies as failing it, making it more efficient to skip most of the missions in the game, except for those that are short enough that the roughly 35 seconds it takes to perform this trick isn't worth it. Not all of the missions in the game can be skipped; those that end chapters and the game can't be skipped. As missing out on missions also means that you miss out on quite a few coins, it's a good idea to use missions that have long timers and can't be force failed as a means of gathering coins.
Cutscene Skip: The pause menu can be used to select missions across chapters, making it possible to skip cutscenes by selecting the next chapter's first mission manually through the pause menu. The next mission unlocks as the "mission complete" text fades out, so all you have to do to get this trick is pause the game at the right time. You can pause rapidly to ensure you get it, or trust yourself with the timing and save a few seconds. If you miss the trick, you're forced to sit through the cutscene. This trick doesn't work on all cutscenes, just the ones at the end of Bart's and Apu's levels.
Car Reset: You can reset your car by pressing R or the shoulder buttons of your controller. This can be used to get away from the cops in a pinch, reset yourself if you're about to crash and lose all of your momentum (or your barrel in the last three missions), and also warp around the level in small increments. On small areas that aren't considered "road", the game will try to reset you on the nearest real road. One important example is the inside of the C. Spanker (the ship in Lisa's / Bart's level); if you reset after entering it's interior from the pier side and reset as you crash into the wall, you'll be reset on the other side of the ship, closer to Krustylu Studios. There are many areas where this can be applied, and not all of them are known yet.
Carl Skip: On "The Fat and the Furious", the last mission of Level 1, push Carl into the power plant before talking to him and starting the mission. This will spawn you behind the wall that normal appears in the power plant, letting you save a ton of time by driving to Mr. Burns' mansion through the power plant, instead of all around Springfield.
Top Enter: Entering your car while standing on top of it skips the entry animation, making it faster to enter your vehicle this way every time.
This topic is pretty barebones right now, but I'll probably upload or post a video of a new route for the game at some point. Just putting this here in case people wonder if the game is being run or have any questions about it.
