Hey guys,

i am very new here and love this site so much that i now wanna give my own, first speedrun for you. Only if you are interessed in.
The Settlers III is the Game i chose, so normaly it's not made for speedruns like others, but i played it some times and got some strategies which makes the aim to win easier. Of Course not in all missions!

Hope it's possible not to do a single Video for 1 Campaing, so i just have more segmets e.g. for every Mission 1 Video. Something else in this game is brillant, that the button "t" makes a clock on the right corner and shows yous the time you played for this mission.

But first of all my question is, if SDA is interessed in some sort of doing speedrun of missions / Campaignes in this fantastic old game "the Settlers III" or not.

i looking forward to your answer

Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes!

It's perfectly fine to speedrun RTS games, we already have runs of Starcraft and Age of Empires.
It's also perfectly fine to segment each mission, I can't remember how the mission system fully worked, so you may have to start the next mission and then immediately save in order to segment. (I haven't played this game since 8 years or so).
If the clock displayed by pressing 't' is accurate, then that clock will probably be used for timing the missions. Depends on if it is affected by the F12 key or not. I assume speedruns will abuse that key a lot.

I wish you the best of RNG during your attempts, please post progress updates, I'd love to follow them.
Also remember to make a quality test (record a bit of game play, upload it and make a topic in Tech Support asking to have it checked) if you intend to submit so you don't record a run and end up with video that cannot be accepted.

And welcome to SDA knoll3!
hey warepire,

thanks for your fast post and support. I hope i do everything right, cause it's my first time i do sth. like this. Especially the thing with the video converting etc is not my best part, so i have to check and call help for this, but still got fraps + converting programm on pc. So, all guns are loaded to fit the run.

To your QUestion with the "f12" button --> yes it effects the Time IN GAME, so you push f12 ingame the time will be jump 1 minute forward, so i think this is a good timer for the run.

let's see when i start and upload the videos, first of all i must do some checks about quality etc.

kind regards and a sunny day

I´ve played this game a lot, but always the continuous games on the largest map with 20 opponents XD

Since I've never played the campaign before, I don't know whether it's suitable for a speedrun.
Definately sounds interesting though, I might give it a try! Smiley

well at least i just got some runs recorded (mission 1 - 7 romans) and at all we got some good timeframe i think...

i just let you know more updates etc. Have to wait for response on my quality tests.

hey thomas,

i just wait for this question ;-). When you mean the video of "Saschasiedler3" and the mission 1 of romans in 1:43 Mins. --> i beat this time yes.
i hope there are more skilled people and players out there who beat me one time or got better tactics for this roman campaign, so i am the man who first hit the door in front and maybe others walk through and have better ideas which are faster than mine.

greetz and a sunny weekend

*** Update ****

Well guys,

i have recorded now the missions 1-4 and 6-8 of the romans, 5 will be done next few days. But some question, someone can tell me how i must upload or do i have to contact the admins?! Any Link for information will be great.

Timeframe till now is about 105 Minutes but the last Mission (5) will be the longest in this run. Think about 45 minutes, cause of fu**** ships i have to build.

So far from now

Also, it is advised to post a quality test in the tech discussion sub-forum. (No idea if you've done so, too lazy to check; just saying Wink )
Damn well looking forward to this =3

thanks alot Alko, but one more question, do i have to upload the videos here in this thread (IQ, HQ, MQ, LQ) or i red sth. about calling an Admin and upload via Torrent or sth. like that?! Another helpful answer will be great.

Well,

i have done the romans campaign now in normal mode and this are the times, maybe you are better? - Time is when i get the last tower or what is the aim of the mission and not the time when the text comes "you have win the game", cause my pc sometimes need 2 or 3 secondes of "knowing and typing"

Mission 1 - 1:40 Minutes
Mission 2 - 13:52 Minutes
Mission 3 - 16:40 Minutes
Mission 4 - 28:46 Minutes
Mission 5 - 37:29 Minutes
Mission 6 - 16:44 Minutes
Mission 7 - 5:04 Minutes
Mission 8 - 18:03 Minutes
--------------------
Total: 138:18 Minutes

greetings

Personally, I haven't submitted a run yet, so I don't know exactly what it'll look like. But from what I've heard, you'll be moved on to a page with details on how to upload your run.
It's either that you sit and wait for an admin to contact you about details (could be Puwexil, UA, Don'tknowwho or others; not sure), or you'll receive the info directly on one of the following pages.
I think, either torrenting or ftp-uploading are the most frequently used options.

If you encode the videos yourself, you will be required to upload all qualities even~tually. You probably can (and should, if it's not too much of a hassle, I believe) do them all at once, but I don't think more than one quality is required for verification. (You will get stuck further down the queue if videos are missing for whatever reason, though. Some green name (Nate? UA?) once mentioned that large amounts of the run posting backlog are runner's fault (missing video files, most of them).

You don't need to upload anything into this thread, this is just for discussion about speedrunning the game in general. A lot of runners of other games link to their Youtube uploads or Twitch highlights wenn in the progress of running/submitting, though.

fast and helpful as well --> THX alko!

i opend your linkpage to submission, but dont find any row to upload or browse my videos, so i dont do it completly. Nate, i know him, cause he said my quality test was ok, after reencoding with other solutions!

i will go futher on with the submission, but maybe there another settlers player out there who beat my times, so i must try harder to beat him / her.

Thx again an a sunny day

As someone who has submitted a run:
Uploading the videos is a later stage, first you fill out the form, and fill it out as detailed as you can, and send it, after a while (I think a couple of days at the most) someone of staff will PM you about the submission. Follow this PM as you will after a while get information on when to upload your videos.
There are 2 standard options, and those are torrent and uploader program, if neither works for you an alternative solution can be found at that time, like a hosting site or even snail mail have been used in the past if my memory isn't failing too much.

You may of course also upload your run on YouTube or something to post in this thread if you want. That sometimes helps others spot mistakes if you want feedback. This is however not required.

Just one other thing I noticed: Your run does not have to be the fastest run out there. It just hast to be a solid run (ideally with super-high play quality). There are runs on SDA that weren't 'world record' when they were submitted; they were just fast and good and the faster runs were never submitted. In fact, there was a run of the SNES version of the Lion King submitted and accepted only recently in spite of a faster time being known.

ok, Thank you for that. I just subbemitted my run, but dont get an answer of the next step (4 Days ago). i just wait a few more days, cause they may have much work to do and a real-life ;-).

greetz and a good start in this new week
