I can't seem to access the videos any more, does anyone know if nico changed something?

Same. I'm pretty sure you have to sign up now.

Signing up isn't too hard though.

Non registered use can't watch videos through nico nico pedia now.

If you watch the video without account, try this.
http://www.nicovideo.jp.am/watch/sm (video number)

You type the video number which you want to watch.
For example, 9553760 is SMB2 JPN (lost levels).

But, I recommend to sign up.
Because I don't know above link can be used forever.

Is there a way to explain how to sign up ? It's not immediately apparent to me where to click...

https://secure.nicovideo.jp/secure/register?transition=common

Enter your email address, then you'll get another form. Should be fairly easy to understand:

Username

Male / Female

DOB

Location

Password (and confirm)

Security Question

click the top button and then confirm the information.

Next screen:

enter the captcha to agree to the terms of service. The button to the right refreshes the image. Top button to submit, bottom to go back.

Next:

check your email, find the email from info@nicovideo.jp and click the url inside.

You're now logged in and registered.
Great ! Thanks for the explanation. I finally managed to register. Unless they changed something recently, being registered is apparently the way to get the option to toggle full-screen.
To have monitor-size full screen you need to be premium though, otherwise you only get browser-size Tongue

Also a reminder to people who just registered, you login with your email + password, not username + password

there's a far better quality 0-star super mario 64 run available than the one linked in this thread that's allegedly on console, thought people would be interested: http://www.nicovideo.jp.am/watch/sm12887548

general page for sm64 RTAs: http://www31.atwiki.jp/sm64/

finally, all the links in this thread are out of date, as the dic/v url syntax no longer works. however, most nicovideos are viewable by simply appending '.am' after the .jp (like in the link above). doing this for some of them sends you to a page with an error image, though i don't know if that's due to the video itself as i can't translate text contained in an image. (o 0xwas wrote that above lol - still, this thread really needs an update)

Looks pretty fake to me. Look how a chat client pops up at 2:04.

i figured that was just during a stream or something - if the person was trying to fake it would they put something like that in there? there's a similar thing in another 16-star RTA on youtube.

there are three runs listed in the wiki's 0-star console category (and more in the emulator table), and i think it's unlikely that all three are fake. could be the case though.
From the above SM64 wiki, there's a link to a larger listing of Nicovideo runs: http://www40.atwiki.jp/niconamarta/

There's a list of game names on the left side of the page; click one to see known runs.  Some of the more popular series' games are under an expandable list which is initially hidden, such as Mario (マリオ).

Many of the runs only have links to a community page, which looks like this: http://com.nicovideo.jp/community/co25322
In that case, you might be able to find the run (or similar runs) by clicking on "動画", which should be under the search box near the top of the page.
awesome yoshifan, thanks for that link! i knew a page like that had to exist but i just didn't know where.

i'm not seeing what you mean regarding the community pages though. there are a lot of "動画"s on every community page, but none are right under the search box. the thing that it looks like you meant was the community videos area on the right of the page, but those seem to just be the public videos of whoever's page it is.

from the sense of the google translation of a few community pages it seems like you need to be some sort of 'priveleged member' to view certain videos, not really sure though.

also, i'm really curious about one other thing - watching live nico streams. do you have to be a member, how do you do it, etc.

yoshifan: 2010-12-05 11:58:13 pm
Oh, apparently the 動画 link I was talking about only appears if you're a member and logged in.  But yeah, the community videos (コミュニティ動画) thing is the exact same thing.

I haven't figured out how to watch live streams myself, though I haven't tried very hard to do so either.  I'd be curious myself.

And yeah, it's also possible that some videos aren't accessible to all Nico members.  In one community page, for example, it'll say there's 20 videos, when I can only see 12.  Maybe you have to be a privileged member or have to join that particular community to see those other videos, but just guessing.

i found out from 0xwas that live streams can only be watched by privileged members, yeah. it's probably the same case for some videos.

in any case, josh, i'd be happy to update/maintain this thread if you don't want to anymore. if you still want to, though, you'll have to change all the links and include that wiki link, for starters.

edit: i have control of the first post now, thanks josh. i already changed most of the links to .jp.am syntax, but when i get the chance i'll be adding more info about various things like watching live streams, faster runs than the ones currently listed, etc.

Are the numbers in yellow the TAS times?
That was really good execution, especially bowser. Was that a Wart sprite that appears when diving into the bubbles? Andrewg, take notes, and update this run! Wink
i have begun the overhaul of the thread. check the OP for details of what's been added so far. comments/questions are extremely welcome!
I'd like to point out that the *only* thing "RTA" means is that you use a real life clock to measure the time as opposed to an in-game clock. Hit "start" when you begin and "end" when you finish. Any rules about loading from saves, single segment, etc etc are all up to the individual runner - like LttP RTAs have both save and no-save categories (no saves being more popular). Conversely the only thing "TA" means is that you use the in-game clock, which means you can reload your save as often as you want to manipulate luck and keep the in-game clock down.
thanks psion, i was going off of the google translation of this page, which is obviously not the best possible thing for accuracy. i'll edit in your description in my next edit.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
if you played a game like mega man 2, beat a stage, reset the game and entered in the passwords each time, would that be a faster RTA? and acceptable to how the Japanese runners do it?

SS Any% FF2 GBA
I found a FF2 RTA on nico the other day. If you want to put it up on the top post feel free:
FF2 RTA GBA run (3:28:22). (I believe the runner's name is オレタカ if I am interpreting the page correctly)

Note: Top RTA run according to Ultima Garden is 3:10 by タカハシ
Also Note: He uses a few sub optimal paths and decides to do some fights sub optimally as well, but it's the only RTA video I could find that is close to the Top time on Ultima Garden. For more details about this run, I have my thoughts on it here
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
hmm, considering that Final fantasy XIII can't be accessed for reasons unknown, can anyone link it?  I would like to see what a possible FFXIII speed run would look like...

As far as I'm watching nicolive, the SDA member is gradually watching and post comment.
For those, I introduce some viewer option.

pic 1 http://img541.imageshack.us/f/23761843.png/
pic 2 http://img689.imageshack.us/f/aaa1z.png/

In pic 2, you can use some options.(below is description)

"常に184コメント(匿名)にする"(You post comment as anonymous.) (this option usually checked. If you want to show your name, uncheck it.)
"コメント非表示"(Don't show comments on video screen)
"音声をミュートにする"(Mute)
"広告非表示"(disable ad, this option is available for Premium member.)
"コメント非表示でもBSP表示"(Always show BSP, which is special comment.)
"拡大時に全画面表示を利用する"(Expanding video screen to full window, this option is available for Premium member.)

In first post, "TA" means "segmented". Basically it's true. But in nicolive, it's not.

You may know the dafault stream duration is 30 minutes.
If streamer do a speedrun over 30 minutes with default stream, they need to move new stream.
They usually stop stopwatch while moving new streams and start it. And a speedrun is done in this way, We called it is "TA."(In other word, "TA" means Non-RTA in nicolive.)

Of course, We called "RTA" if streamer didn't stop stopwatch with some default streams or long stream.
