I just can,t believe japanesse players are better.

Believe it. *in b4 naruto jokes*

I'm probably more familiar with their gaming community than most here, as they've dominated one of my hobbies (fighting-game tournaments) forever.  The real impressive thing about that is that they aren't "pro" gamers, like some of our best - they play hours a day just for the sheer love of the games & competition.

I see no reason why we shouldn't expect the same thing to be true of speedruns.  Heck, just think of how the Japanese SDA runs are consistently among the best on the site.

Is there any versio difference between US or JPN versio? I just wonder why nobody in SDA never managed make 0-1 star run. I just can,t believe japanesse players are better. Is there autofire used or is glitches in JPN versio easier? I remember TAS told 0 star is frame perfected make and its hard even used TAS.

Both 0 and 1 star runs are very possible. I know some sm64 TASers are able to do them in real-time. I guess SDA just doesn't have sm64 players at the moment.

The Japanese are usually good at whatever they do. They tend to focus on one thing until they master it. So it makes sense they are better players too. Tongue

It is cool see how much more Dragorn 120 star SDA run would be better.

This JPN runner make 120 star run about 5 minutes faster even this run includes several deaths (death in course 12 cost about 2-3 minutes) Also he falling down into sky (this cost surely 1-2 minutes). Also he did tons rough mistakes around the game. Especially course 14 went really suck compared 70 star run.

IMO this not was very great looking run even it beat Dragorn run by several minutes. He used a lot cool new tricks (not was founded when Dragorn beat his own run). But when i watched this through i am sure sub 2 hours is very possible. This look 1.56-1.57 would be possible 120 star time on console. Let see want someone got beat 120 star under 2 hours. But i am sure it is possible.

Dragorn SDA run was awesome year 2006. But with current day tricks used its can be easily 10 minutes faster. But its surely very hard beat that game with optimize speed with all hard trick used. Smiley

I watched any-% run. This looks it beat current WR by 6 seconds. And its beat SDA "perfect run goal" by 3 seconds. I am hearing peoples here are talking about max limit on console are 10.56. This run was really awesome. I still pick up two very minor mistake here

1: Bowser castle. He mess up enter in boss room. Cost maybe about 1 seconds or less
2: Last hit with Bowser seems slower than other hits. Cost maybe 1 seconds.

I think new "max" limit would be are 10.51. But yeah this look almost perfect as SMB 1 & 3 WR run. So there is very minor rooms improvement.
I can't get the Ninja Gaiden link to work. No problem with any of the other links I've tried.

Yeah, that's weird. I guess it doesn't like the number-only video IDs. I have a page with similar functionality which works ok with it, though.

(though, it does inflict a closeable ad on you and the time bar's permanent)
Your link works. Thanks !
It's written "TAS" (together with a lot of Japanese signs) when the video starts up. Maybe someone who speaks Japanese can see if it is a tas or not ?
I watched a bit of it and found out it was segmented.  That doesn't seem like that great of a time, but if you're still interested then I can add it in there!

Google Translate suggests that part says it specifically isn't a TAS, but, as the OP and page 2 discussion indicates it's most likely emulated and possibly using real-time emulator tools anyway.

Well, with my limited knowledge and a dictionary, here's what I gather:
ガチプレイです。 - No cheating (more literally, honest play).
TASではありません。 - This is not a TAS.
連射機も未使用。 - Autofire wasn't used, either.
邪神を倒した後タイムが00になるまでの時間を計測。 - Timing ends when the time reaches 00 after beating the final boss. (I guess?  I didn't see the video, so I'm not sure if that makes sense.)

part 1 of the DKC2 run is dead Sad
Yeah, my comment at the top of this page applies for that one too.

OK guys, I updated the OP with all the recently-posted runs and fixed the links you mentioned!  Thanks and keep 'em coming. =)

Hi, I'm the guy who started the first nicovideo thread, and am glad to see you guys realized how awesome their runs are Smiley

I want to clear up a few things if that's ok.

Most videos seems TAS.

I can,t believe SM 64 0-star run. As far as i can tell there is not way got 0 star run on console. Most peoples haved insane troubles make 1 star run and as far as i can tell it is much easier than 0 star.

Also it is fact internet haved a lot fake video WR sites where is used several cheats. I just can,t believe with this site. These vids not seems real and language are something weird. Tongue Not even english here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no guarantee that these RTAs are played on actual consoles.
Also, it seems like he may have used slowdown based on this: タイムシフトからなので若干コメのラグありです. The mention of "time-shifting rice" suggests it (thanks google translate).

It's just like youtube, can't really trust what you see, especially when the descriptions are all in a different language.

This is a big misunderstanding.  タイムシフトからなので若干コメのラグありです = "I used time shifting, so some comments might lag", this is about the nicovideo livestream feature that lets premium users watch live streams at different times, kind of like TIVO, so it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game or RTA  Wink

Also, it's true that many are run on emulators, but there are plenty run on real machines as well. They don't seem to care too much about the distinction, cultural difference I suppose?

By the way, I just want to mention, one of the most impressive and well known runners (as well as one of my favorite) is ikarun, who has beaten the awesome SDA run of link to the past by about two minutes . He's streaming for many hours every day so you can watch him play frequently. Recently he's been trying for a saves-allowed run for possibly under 90 minutes. His community page is here: http://com.nicovideo.jp/community/co85012

Thanks for the clarification.

Wow, faster than the current alttp run on SDA? I recently watched all of the SDA alttp runs and I consider them some of the most solid runs on SDA. If someone really is two minutes I'll have to see that. So thanks again!

Edit: I guess I could link the videos while I'm at it. I have to say it's a good speedrun, even did some stuff Tompa wasn't aware of.

I have absolutely no idea why he has a tortoise plush on his head, why he whispers and what that girly sound is. You get used to it though.

Bablo, I'm surprised you were surprised.  Another Japanese player on ustream (MCR) has had archived runs that beat both the any% and 100% records for awhile now.  Even he wasn't as fast as this, though!

Also he might be whispering because he's in a dorm or something.  I have to keep my voice down when streaming because my next-door neighbor and I can hear each other through the walls if we're loud.

Haha, from what I heard the turtle plushie is just something he did once and the viewers made him keep it (for a while). His community icon is now a drawing of him wearing it.

That "girly sound" is the software I mentioned earlier that reads out loud comments from his live stream viewers. This way he can concentrate on the game and still know what people are typing to him, and he can reply verbally.

Also Josh is probably right on why he was whispering, since he made that run at like 4 in the morning japan time Smiley

edit: by the way your part one link is broken I think, here it is: http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10298602
I tried searching dic.nicovideo and live.nicovideo and just nicovideo for a Magician Lord (マジシャンロード according to wikipedia) RTA and/or TA but had no luck (all I can find is some random guys playing casually through the game). Do any of you guys know of one or have more insight into searching this kind of stuff and can tell me how to find one?

Thanks in advance.

The Yume Nikki runs on there are pretty nice.
