Quote from Wodanaz:
The leaderboards exist regardless of video, you know. If someone could have pulled off better moves, then he wouldn't have all the records now would he?

maybe their console isn't hooked up to the internet. or maybe they don't play on time attack mode, for whatever reason.

And I never understood why everyone hated the 360 d-pad, it works fine for me, i never mess up with it any more than I do on the wiimote or classic controller. I think I stand utterly alone in this position, though.

have you played any Street Fighters on 360? if so, i can't imagine you can do a Shoryuken reliably on that D pad. i can barely jump with my pad.

this isn't an opinion based on only my controller. every Microsoft-made 360 controller i've used is like this. and i doubt the 10 or so i've used are the exception to the rule. i can't be the only one who's complained.

Satoryu, what's the point of all this 360-pad bitching? If MD9 gets all of the world records and he's fine with the pad, then what's the problem?

I hate the 360 pad too (I press about 5 directions at once when I play with it), but that doesn't mean I have to cry about it in an unrelated thread. Maybe MD9 would do worse with a PS3 or Wii pad, who knows? I know you don't.

it just means MD9's accomplishments are all the more impressive to me.
I have played with the 360 pad a few times and I got to agree that the d-pad is awful for hardcore 2d gaming (still not as horrible as the early PSP's d-pad, what a nightmare), the diagonals are difficult to pull off and it causes trouble in many situations. And I cannot imagine playing any kind of 2d game with the analog stick.

So if MD9 is indeed using the original 360 controller (or maybe he has some abnormal unit), then that indeed makes his records all the more impressive.

oh shi*!!!!
I've been using just the wiiremote all this time!!! O___O;
I suddenly have the urge to go out and purchase an xbox live points card, or start using a classic controller.

So this is why I can't have world records. Sad
*EDIT*
Ugh, I tried switching to classic controller, and it just doesn't feel right to me. :/ The D-pad is too soft, and I couldn't get a good feel for it, It'd probably take me like 100 hours to get used to it!! Also I'm used to hitting 2 to switch back all the time, and instead i have to hit y, which is really strange.  Other than that I like switching on it better!! Why couldn't they have used the A button as the pause button for the Wiimote??

Anyways, back on topic here!!! I was messing around with my ladder zips on Galaxyman, and managed to get into the first teleport thing at 0:21:43!!! Now if only I could put that into a solid run!! Which I almost did, but I missed one of my concrete blocks (for shame) could have easily had a 1:39:xx run :/.
I am really kicking myself here, I just found a zip that is very obvious. When entering screen 4 of jewel Man you throw a c shot against the wall before you hit the ground and then zip through it. I think that time can also be saved if you zip the last turret on screen 2 and do a little edge jump into the next screen but I'm not sure.

The new zip that MD found is really cool and works on concrete man the best. On the 1st screen of concrete man it seems impossible to zip off the 3rd small ledge using MD's zip without forfeiting your zip on the falling rock. But no worries, I have a solution. If you shoot the bird with bazooka before you zip off the ledge it causes the bird to drop the rock further back. After you zip off the ledge you just zip off one of the smaller rocks(the left one) that the big rock has broken into.

Edit: sorry i cant record because explaining like this annoys me and probably you too. Angry

I just found that zip while experimenting today too!!! Its after the 1st screen with the spiders when you're falling right? But the timing I find is hard to do, and it only works for me about an 1/8th of the time.

The same zip applies for the corridor in Wily's castle 2, (I've long since been calling it the corridor zip, and it also works in galaxyman's stage) the jump after the block you have to laser trident.
I wish I could record so that we could all have shiny video of all these zips!! :/

And yea, I had that problem also in concrete man's stage while trying out that zip.  But I fixed it by zipping,  jumping, then pulling out the trusty old jewel satellite, but the magma bazooka would work well too, and would get you the extra zip!!
Nice find!!! Cheesy
With the discovery of MD's new zip come new discoveries. I found that when doing MD's new zip you can throw another c shot as you are jumping and corner zip or do another zip. In effect it is a double zip and it is surprisingly easy. Initial tests show that it saves .24 seconds but I'm not sure if its possible to do MD's new zip without hitting the wall. If you can do it without hitting the wall then the double zip would save around .3 seconds. I'm not sure what to name this new zip but it is the combination of 2 zips that MD discovered so I've been calling it the MD deluxe zip (corny, I know), but I guess double zip would work. This zip works really well on Jewel, Concrete, and Wily 1 where small ledges are at the beginning of the level and drop manipulation could be done. Finding this new zip really makes me want to see a TAS of this game, some incredible things could be done.

Ah!!!!! thats brilliant!! I never thought it could be combined into another zip!!!
Cheesy Surprising that of all the things, I never tried that!!!

I'd say double zip works!!! Or Mega Zip!!

Of if you want to go all out fancy with a name, it could be the
Super Special Ultra Deluxe Double Concrete Ejection Shot Supreme Zip Edition!!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Just wanted to ask, though I'm sure this has already been tested. Has anyone tried to get ejected from a concrete block and into a wall, so that you could zip a long way?

Yes I have. It's the same as trying to zip through a c shot into a c shot thats already been formed, the game reads c shot thats already been formed as solid so it won't let you get inside of it. That's why when you try to get in the wall you just get zipped upwards instead.
yes, an iron knuckle riding a mechanical horse
I've practiced in Plug Man's stage, and the Concrete Shot lets you zip TO the wall, but it won't let you zip THROUGH the wall.  This game uses less-flawed collision detection algorithms than the MM games of old, and must not consider blocks and walls to be the same type of object.  Considering that I only did this as a passing thought, this has probably been tested by many other people; if there was a way to zip into a wall, someone would have come out with it by now.

It took people about 18 years or so to figure out zipping glitches for early Mega Man games, so give it a bit of time Wink
I've mostly been lurking this topic and had an idea  has anyone tried doing an upzip into a formed c-shot? Not sure what would happen since the game doesn't have a place to reject you. Not sure this is even possible though  Tongue
Quote from Sidonex:
I discovered a new type of zip but don't expect to see it outside of a TAS/MD9 run. When 2 ledges are too far apart to corner zip you throw a c shot under the corner and jump off of the c shot and corner zip. So you are creating your own platform to corner zip from by using c shot.

This also works with the new double zip. The only problem is that it takes 3 c shots to do it. Wily 3 and tornado would be good places to use it because you have leftover c shot. But after thinking about it there is also another good place to use it besides Wily 3, Tornado, and maybe Plug, and that is at the end of Concrete man where you pick up the energy with chaser and only end up using 1 of the 5 c shots gained. On the ledge you normally corner zip you make a platform with a c shot and double zip. This works really well because it's easier than a corner zip and saves about a tenth of second more. This is the only place I could find to apply this but be happy to find other places.

Heya Sidonex,
I tried doing the double zip, but I couldn't get it to work. Sad Any suggestions on when to throw the second concrete block?
The first zip is ok, I can do it consistently, but when I throw the second block after jumping, I walk right into it solid. Sad
fucking .gif....
slow topic is slow

I haven't had trouble with the zip, are you just jumping too high so that the concrete rejects you because you are in the air? Just jump low and shoot the concrete right after you hit the jump button and it should work fine. You would be amazed at just how far you can throw the concrete before it doesn't let you walk into it.

Thanks, but i tired it and still can't get it, maybe i just have terrible timing. Sad I think I would need video explanation in order to do it properly.

As for the zipping through a wall thing, i have a theory that in galaxyman when you are being carried by a transporter, and you get hit by an enemy, and then you concrete zip through spikes while having limited invincibility, then you zip again you might be able to go through a wall?? But its just a theory, and I really haven't gotten any luck in getting it to work. Sad
He's back!

Speedrunning and glitch finding were a hell of a lot different compared to the time era when NES Mega Man games were coming out. It will probably be only another year when the same level of understanding is met for MM9.
Hey MD, did you get the new galaxy record on the wii? I can't check xbox leaderboards right now so I was just curious.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
One thing I never understood about your galaxy man runs is at around 0:55 in that video... why don't you try to make the transporter catch you at the top of a jump instead of on the ground? Wouldn't it pick your speed up sooner if you did that? I can't remember too well, but I think 1:35:40 ties my best level time, and your run was definitely cleaner. I could be wrong though, and either way, awesome job!
Haters gonna hate
I understand that the transporter zips save less time than a normal zip, but wouldn't you also gain a little extra time using them in the first room with them in Galaxy Man from not having to walk as much between them?  I think that would make them decidedly more worthwhile.
A.K.A. SlurpeeNinja
Yea if you watch my horribly recorded run on my youtube page, I transporter zip in that first room, but the big problem is concrete usage, in the end you have to get horrendously lucky!!!!

Tonight I'm going to get an Xbox live points card!!!  Should be fun figuring out how to play entirely differently. @__@;
Any comments on how much time would be lossed/saved in Galaxy Man if you did 5 extra zips somewhere throughout the level and got the big refill on the last screen instead of jumping so the that the transporter would catch you earlier?

If that doesn't work I think that going for a big refill on the one of the last mets in screen one would work.
