I discovered a new type of zip but don't expect to see it outside of a TAS/MD9 run. When 2 ledges are too far apart to corner zip you throw a c shot under the corner and jump off of the c shot and corner zip. So you are creating your own platform to corner zip from by using c shot.
I could swear I just got a 2.00 second boss fight on magma man. However, there is a good chance that I am delusional because I'm tired.
Edit: Sweet!!! I just got a 2.03 second magma man fight and the boss did a high jump to the middle which costs some time. I kind of feel bad revealing this boss strat because MD went so far as to use a calculator for his boss fight and mine is so much simpler. Anyway, you rush straight in at magma man while hitting him with 3 t blows, then you hit him with a bazooka, then a t blow, followed by a quick finishing bazooka.
Great Jewel Man fight. I think I found a cool trick that could possibly be used in a time attack. In Splash Woman at the end of screen 3 you hit the green wall enemy right as you start to decend into the next screen with c shot, if done right the c shot will land on top of you and push you down faster into the next screen.
I'm still not sure how the all clear keeps track of the time. Does it even count the 1/100 or 1/10 seconds or does it just keep track of the whole seconds and never add the fraction seconds.
Speaking of undiscovered tactics, I am pretty sure you can pass by the second magma beam on magma man with only the use of 2 c shots. I haven't done it without completley stopping yet because I just barely grazed the beam as i froze it. Hopefully it's possible to do it without any pausing. The timing is extremely tight but easier than a corner zip for sure. You throw a c shot corner to corner with the edge and land on it after you freeze the magma beam at the highest point possible or there is no chance of mega man making it.
I found a really neat zip!! ^^ So in galaxyman on the beginning ladders, if you place a concrete shot at the bottom of the ladder, jump to the top, turn around in midair and shoot a concrete block you can zip through it if the timing is right (it is kind of almost like a corner zip but not really becasue it doesn't exactly use the corner...). ^^; Of course, in Galaxyman's stage where you need absolutely all the concrete you can get, it really doesn't help much, but it could probably be applied to other areas. Also I noted that if you fire a concrete block directly into the bottom of a ladder at a wall you can zip upwards through it if you walk into it correctly!!
Maybe people found these zips already though. O.o;;
If you coil onto jet when entering screen 3 instead of using jet twice thats an easy way to save a frame. All of the enemies on the first screen have always been very generous to me in giving me big refill drops and sense you don't stop at all on the first screen it shouldn't be hard to get refills for c shot. With extra c shot you could add in zips on the disk enemy after the first cart and zips on the shield bots at screen 3 are also possible.
Oh, and you can also hit the boulder boss with a black hole bomb on the way down if he is close to the door before you rape him with plug ball.
The new upwards zip has wonderful applications. For example, at the end of screen 1 on concrete man when you place a c shot on the ladder. As you are landing on the c shot throw a c shot on the wall so that when you jump off your c shot it will eject you upward.I'm not sure how much time this saves but its very easy and worth doing.
I haven't got an upward zip yet I don't know why it isn't working, but I did figure something out. On a one block small platform raise like the start of concrete man's level you can shoot cshot into the wall early enough where mega man can enter the block and the block isn't going into the wall, then jump out(not too early) and it'll zip you forward because the top of the block is just over the edge.
Awesome!!! Yea, I was testing out my upwards ladder zip application on the small one block platform after the metool in Galaxyman the day before yesterday and came up with exactly the same result!! ^^ I'm glad we both found it :D. I think maybe it could be used on all the small platforms on both jewel man, concrete man, plug man, and Wily Castle 1 to save time!! Maybe even wily castle 3!!! But of course most of those will need lucky large energy refill drops somewhere along the way!! I think its MUCH easier than trying to do corner zips on those platforms anyway... corner zips don't work for me half the time anyway, I keep hitting the solid concrete block before I can get through it.
I'm sorry I haven't beaten your Galaxyman time yet, I've been working on it...still haven't gotten a lucky enough run, and I still can't do the 5th concrete shot on galaxyman properly. :/
About the upward zip though: you can shoot that block and stay inside of it until the concrete completely dissapears!! But I think you have to jump out of it at exactly the right time for it to work properly!! I know for sure it works on short ladders with screen ends right on top of them, like in tornado man's stage at the top of room with the metool and shield guy!!
Anyways, happy zipping!! if I find anything else I'll post it up here ^^
And btw!! That Jewel Man run was awesome!!! I wish I could switch weapons easier while jumping, but on the wiimote I have to reach from the 1 button all teh way to the plus button.. :/
oh no, the 360 controller must be terrible for this game. not only is pause in a boneheaded place, movement must suck. games like this shouldn't be played with analog sticks, and the 360 D pad sucks.
at least with the Classic Controller and i imagine PS3, you can hit jump, shoot, and pause with the same finger at the same time.
not with one finger, he can't. and i imagine using the claw with analog would be extremely cumbersome. using the D pad, it doesn't seem that would be as bad. but as already mentioned, 360 D pads are absolute garbage.

With the PS3? Yes its possible to hit all 3 at the same time if you position your thumb correctly. I prefer the PS3s controller over the Wii and 360s because the buttons are a lil more responsive to a lighter push WITH the exception of the start/select buttons those button require a lil more "Oomph"
lol yeah because md9 can't jump, shoot, and pause at the same time.
I can so jump, shoot, and pause at the same time, I am not limited in any way with this controller why do you think I have WR times with it. I can press pause with my left pointer finger at any time while I'm jumping and shoot with my right thumb, and of course moving with my left thumb, simultaneously. Basically it's the perfect controller setup. lol
That was his point, he was being sarcastic. Satoryu had said the controller was terrible when obviously you can pull off stuff using it way better than anyone else using any controller period.
The 360 Dpad is not garbage, I like how it's filled in on the corners so you can just slide your thumb over the pad and you don't have as much problem keeping your thumb on it.
the problem with the 360's D pad is its inaccuracy. i cannot play anything with that D pad. diagonals are an especially big problem.
so unless your 360 pad isn't an official Microsoft one (the Gamestop ones are fucking awesome), it is absolutely mindboggling that you have been able to succeed with these conditions. i hold a lot of admiration towards you, with ever the slightest bit of pity.

What finger do you use. Do you lay your finger across the whole wii mote, I don't see how that can be done while executing precise moves. But I do think the classic controller is slightly better for rapid shooting while jumping but it isn't major in this game.
where'd you get Wiimote out of what i said? that's probably worse than the 360 pad for MM9. i was only talking about the Classic Controller. you can hit y, b, and + all with your thumb.

how do you know no one can pull this stuff off better? just because MD9 has video proof of his skill? i'm not putting down MD9 here, just playing devil's advocate.
I don't use my left index but it's the same idea, I just reach over with my right index. That's how I play on the NES controller so it doesn't really make a difference to me if pause is start or back. And I never understood why everyone hated the 360 d-pad, it works fine for me, i never mess up with it any more than I do on the wiimote or classic controller. I think I stand utterly alone in this position, though.

The leaderboards exist regardless of video, you know. If someone could have pulled off better moves, then he wouldn't have all the records now would he?
Preference is a beautiful thing, although I wouldn't express my opinions as fact. The Xbox controller is my favorite for sure. Maybe it's just because I'm lazy, but I prefer to use the analog stick because when you are running your left thumb is already on the pause button.
